Everton skipper David Weir insists his side can overturn a 5-1 first-leg deficit and beat Dinamo Bucharest in the Uefa Cup first round on Thursday.
The Scotland international says Everton can change the complexion of the tie if they score an early goal at home.
He said: "If we do get an early goal that will lift us and the crowd. It is not an impossible task as football can change very quickly.
"They will feel the hard work is done. It is up to us to change that."
Everton have lost eight of their last nine games and were outplayed by Bucharest in the first leg, conceding five goals in a European game for the first time.
Weir says it is crucial for Everton to produce a good display at Goodison Park.
He said: "We have got to put on a big show and play really well.
"You cannot suffer hangovers in football. You cannot dwell about what has happened in the past but only look to next game.
"It is about responding to your disappointments in a positive manner. That is what you have to do.
"You can hide in the corner or you can come out and start fighting to try to put yourself back on track.
And Weir believes a packed house could make a big difference to Everton's chances of going through to the Uefa Cup group stage.
"That would be a great starting point for us if the ground was full," said the Scotland defender.
"Maybe some are thinking there is not a great chance of us winning the tie and will vote with their feet.
"It is up to us to go out and put on a performance regardless of the size of the crowd and do our best."
Striker James Beattie has pledged to live up to his tag as Everton's most expensive signing when he returns to action.
The Toffees' Ł6m acquisition may play against Dinamo Bucharest after being sidelined with a toe injury since day one of the season.
He told the club website: "I have not been able to show anybody I can handle the responsibility of scoring goals.
"When I come back this time I want to have a run of games and start scoring and showing everybody what I can do."
Beattie believes "two or three goals" could act as a springboard for a fine run at the club.
He added: "The gaffer brought me in to score goals and I have always said that is what I can do. Hopefully we can progress from there and not undo what we did last year."
With the club needing at least four goals, manager David Moyes may opt to rush Beattie back into action.
"We have been short of real competition all season up front," said Moyes.
"James has only started one game and scored one goal and that is what we are desperately short of at the moment."
