Coming back to pool on Saturday for a piss up went upto the philharmonic pub last time and stayed around that area any good pubs / pub crawls we have missed ?
Don't wanna touch Mathew street if we can help it and don't really want to walk miles from lime st station.
Any suggestions?

The Grapes (the one next to the cathedral, not the one on Mathew Street) is usually decent. Likewise up that end the Caledonia is good. As is Peter Kavanaghs. That might be a bit far from Lime Street though.

Or if you fancy the other end of town, closer to Lime Street, the Ship & Mitre is your best shout, and then work your way along from there.

We started in the ship and mitre went down to rigbys and the hole in the wall which was great, so far so good.

then we headed up to concert square due to the younger lads that were with us, must be getting old but wasn't impressed with that part of Liverpool at all, the shipping forecast was a nice boozer bloody expensive though

Concert Square is best avoided at any age. Shite clubs playing shite music, full of beak'eds and people trying to bash each others heads in.

I like the Shipping Forcecast as well. Haven't been in there for a few years though - don't remember it being that expensive. A lot of places are going up in price these days. It's not uncommon to be paying upwards of £4 for a pint in a lot of (generally non-pub) city centre bars nowadays. It's even worse in the Baltic Triangle price-wise, although at least there you can get some decent beer.

Yeah Shipping Forecast isn't too bad, as said prices are a tad on the high side, but that's most of the places these days I find. Only the smaller old boozers where they are still OK.

Tried the new Wethers on James Street a couple of times, midweek after work its decent, got a good roof terrace. But went in the other Saturday and it was that packed and tough to get served, many people - us included - walked out and went elsewhere.

Captain Alexander isn’t it? Haven’t tried it yet but that’s my end of town so will give it a go. Didn’t realise it had a roof terrace.

Pig and Whistle just opened up again, owned by same guys who own Cross Keys.

Its definitely worth a go, the roof terrace is superb to be fair. I've been in the Pig a few times since its re-opened, the lad Neil is a boss fella and a good red so can defo suggest that too.

Its great working in town these days, loads of choice for after work bevs.

Good shout, if you got the ferry over to Seacombe you can walk down to the Egremont Ferry and sit outside with a pint. Stunning view of the city skyline.

Had to bounce into town a couple of times this week and noticed the Big House is open again with a few Irish flags adorning the entrance. Glad its still with us, was always the first bevy of the night for us 30 years ago, also had a pint of 'top shelf' on me stag night in there.
