Haven't been on here for a few days but just want to say I love the new chart. Thanks Prof. The look of it reminds me of the graphic equalizer readout on those old stereos. Hopefully we'll see lots more green coming our way and we will keep the red down to a minimum.

Man Utd are in real trouble, at least in terms of challenging for the title. I don't even think they will make top four, as Spurs have been consistent and Arsenal are improving under Emery. We appear to have had the toughest fixtures so far, which augurs well for being joint top of the actual table.

It's a nice visual. As we watch the graph getting plotted in the coming weeks it will be satisfying to watch the green bars fill up!

Sorry to bring the discussion back to the acronyms, but if anybody on RAWK can appreciate it, it will be you guys:

I also thought the acronyms used were a bit difficult to decipher, but in case I was being stupid I kept quiet!

But I was under the impression that all 96 teams in the leagues get their own bespoke 3 letter acronym? For hashtags and such. They use them in the fantasy football graphics too.

Those ones are different to the FPL ones for some teams, for whatever reason.

Not convincing?  They looked alright against us.  Agree on their xG though, so hopefully that regresses over the season.

An interesting point to consider on the APLT is the key assumption that the toughest away games are the same for all sides.  Obviously this approach seems both fair and easy, but is this actually true for each club on an individual basis?

Let's use 1 of the games that you've mentioned above for Chelsea.  Take their away game against Newcastle where historically they have really struggled, taking on average just 0.2 pts at St James over 5 visits prior to this years win.  Or consider Man City who had lost their last 5 visits to Anfield prior to our 0-0 draw, so even though it was a par 1 game, they actually exceeded past performances.  Regarding us, the Hawthorns ground has been an awful one for us over the years, collecting just 1.17 pts on average in our last 5 visits there, so nice to see them in the Championship.

I don't think that is a major factor. Teams step up in big games at times, because of the need to raise their game. But you can't keep that intensity up always. Chelsea struggled against Arsenal and barely managed to beat other sides.

And secondly, there is another thread called results comparison thread that compares this season's results with last that helps, but I don't think previous seasons' results matter now. I don't think it matters if you step up a game for one that you didn't recent seasons and then drop points where you should've won.

All I'm going by is the xG and general performances, where they not looked as good as us or City and they've had the easiest fixtures of all 20 sides so far.

This chart shows actual points won or dropped home and away.  The blue lines indicate the average number of points home and away for a 90 point season.  I don't know what you mean by only 12 points to drop?

Apologies Prof, I read this differently. Got everything else in the chart including the fixtures played and the green and red shades, but I seem to remember a similar chart (complete lack of track of time here, don't remember if it was long back or long long back), where there were two lines with one blue one denoting the title bar and another the purple one denoting the top 4 bar.

Got it now, and so it's marked against APLT's good old 90 points. Sound.

Fookin brilliant.
Yeah I like that

So the green lines and red lines are moving towards the blue lines, top is home games bottom is away games. Blue lines are how many points you can conceivably drop, so if the red lines go past the blue lines you’re probably not winning the title.
Once I had it explained, like [emoji3]

Love it.

If I may make one suggestion. How about crossing off/turning the names red for losses and/or green for wins?

Becomes hard to read. Better make the cell in excel a light green, light yellow and light red shade.

I like the idea of a traffic light system.

You could even add it to the bars. Green for wins, Red for losses and amber for points dropped due to a draw.

Just getting the teams listed so they could be crossed off as they're played was hard enough.  It's designed in the same spreadsheet as the APLT so I can update quickly.  If I was starting from scratch, it wouldn't be set up the way it is, as I've had to build in a few work arounds.

Let's see how this goes for a while first then we can discuss improvements  ;D

I don't think coloring the cell would make sense. The teams are listed in the order of last season's final standings and the cells aren't mapped directly to them?

Coloring the teams names (or adding cells to the team names and coloring them) on the other hand would say who the points were dropped to.

Anyway, it's up to Prof to take his time with it as the graph itself is there for a few weeks to enjoy before he wishes to make any additions to it.

Yes, I forgot too. Someone else took over the admin on it, but iv brought it back.  Just need to spend some time working out how to get the cells to colour based on the result.  Not as easy as it sounds unless I do a separate conditional format for every cell which will make updating in future years problematic. Getting the strike through to work was a win  :D

Had a late start this morning so I've worked out the fix... Got it working for our fixtures, just need to do it for the others in time for the update tonight  ;D

It's not really anything to do with the APLT, it's just a different way of displaying the regular results so might be a little less niche.  The APLT does seem to be loved or dismissed  ;D

It's a marmite graph. :)

Don't see why anyone would hate it, it's just the normal table with a bit more context. It's not like it's making any bold predictions or using complex point calculations.

My only criticism would maybe to change the games which are par 1s. For me City at home is a harder game then say Newcastle away.

Maybe, but if you want to win the league, then you probably need to win at home against your main rivals. You could look up the record of title winners and see how often they beat the runners up at home if you want. My guess is that the winner tends to win that game more often than not.

I do think there are some issues with it, but then it's not supposed to be an all-encompassing model, it just contextualizes results in a slightly different way. It's pretty useful at this stage of the season, when everybody has played a good number of games against a variety of different teams.

Most criticisms are RAWK users coming in with the annual back-and-forth questions until they sheepishly leave once they realise they look silly, or else rival fans who pretend it's just a way to have Liverpool top of the table.

I think since it began we've been top of the actual table more often than we've been top of the APLT.

Are we doing the relegation one this year? Crystal Palace's upcoming fixtures look impossible for them, so I am guessing the APLT would have them lower than where they are now in the actual table.

Superb, like the shading, it makes it much more accessible - especially when it's an arse drawing other teams fixtures together at a glance.
