Sturridge - great guy but the only great guy who doesn't recognise that he is hardly ever fit

if his hamstrings get shortened anymore fifa 19 will have him as slow as mertesaker
He recognised it tho hence why he stopped sprinting for the last few years. I knew he was done when I seen him do that in the UEFA Cup Final. If your not going to sprint there you never are.

from not just a fan view...it is painfull to see so much potential and talent being destroyed by injury... sometimes you have to feel for players like that, even rival players...

if fit he was natural goalscorer, i think he would have been in top 5 ever for this club at his rate...

Unfortunately though, these minor niggles can often keep him out for much longer than expected. How can a manager keep trusting him from the start though? There's always a chance you're going to be down to 2 subs within no time at all.

yeah good point that.  Just so difficult for him to be anything but a squad player at this point at that level, cos you just don't know how much you can get out of him. It actually worked pretty well here as it happens until his last injury, he went through a long spell of being fit but only starting on the bench.

Sad to see him go off again like that tonight.  Also, his dream of getting into that world cup squad has to be so slight at this point. He'd have to play pretty much every game from now on and of course, play well, it's tough to see it happening.

I think this is a case in which all interests align. Sturridge wants to play, but won't risk coming back too soon, Pardew wants goals now, but won't risk the one weapon he bought this window too soon, and we want Sturridge fit to get good market value.

Marko Grujic - Cardiff - Started as they beat Leeds 4-1. Reviews of his performance and quality tackling are above.
Divock Origi - Wolfsburg - Played 90 minutes and scored a nice goal from range in a 1-1 draw with Stuttgart, video of the goal is above.
Daniel Sturridge - West Brom - Made his first start in a 3-2 loss at home to Southampton, played 62 minutes. Reviews of his performance higher up.
Pedro Chirivella - Willem II - Started both their games over recent days (1W 1D), deep in a relegation battle. Also only just noticed that Gini's younger brother plays for the same side.
Connor Randall - Hearts - Played the first half in a 1-0 win over St Johnstone. Hearts have kept 11 clean sheets in their last 15 games so looking like this will be a nice side for him to develop in.
Taiwo Awoniyi - Royal Excel Mouscron - Came on in the 58th minute of a 1-0 loss to Genk.
Sheyi Ojo - Fulham - Still out injured. One thing to look out for now is Fulham have 6 players in on loan (Ojo, Mitrovic, Piazon, Kalas, Norwood, Targett) and can only include 5 in a match day squad
Allan - Apollon Limassol - Their 21 game unbeaten league run came to an end at home to top of the table APOEL :( From stats alone it looks like they massively outplayed APOEL. Alan played 81 minutes.
Naby Keita - RBL - Played the full game and assisted a late winner for Everton's Lookman.
Corey Whelan - Yeovil - An unused sub in their 2 games over recent days, 2 wins for Yeovil which has dragged them up and given them some breathing space from the relegation spots.
Matthew Virtue - Notts County - Not in the matchday squad, got a red for a second yellow a couple of games ago but was starting before that.
Ryan Kent - Bristol City - Played the full game in a disappointing 1-0 loss at Bolton.
Harry Wilson - Hull - Played the final 20 minutes in a 2-1 defeat at Preston.
Ovie Ejaria - Sunderland - Played the full game as Sunderland lost (again), but seemed to be their best player going from McCarthy's comments (posted earlier in thread).
Jon Flanagan - Bolton - Unused sub in the 1-0 win vs Bristol City.
Markovic - Anderlecht - Not in matchday squad. Anderlecht's manager says it will take a month or so until he's fit enough to play.

What's the story with Markovic? Not fit for another month but not injured!
Surely he was training while he was here and not sitting in Starbucks. If what Anderlecht are saying is true it sounds like he was just jogging around the training ground with little or no effort.

he was training for sure here, with the first team. Did he play any games at all this season for the U23 team?   Maybe it's just a case of him having had zero match time or something. And if he's following the training regime of players who are playing week in week out, the fitness levels may not be there.

But yeah, another month? That's a bit mad, he end up getting about 2 games for them at this rate!

Grujic starts for Cardiff vs Bolton, Flanagan not in the matchday squad for Bolton.

Whelen starting for Yeovil vs Barnet. Virtue Thicke on the bench for Notts vs Carlisle.

I feel so bad for Sturidge.

Such a talented player but not cut out for the top level, or this league because he isn't durable enough which is really unfortunate because he can score amazing goals.

I hope for him he recovers quickly and stays fit. Otherwise it'll be another season written off and he'll have to look to have a strong pre-season and perhaps restart in a different league e.g. Spain or Italy where he might fare better, be under less scrutiny, and have better time to recover between games.

He should “retire” to MLS in the US.  He’ll make a huge amount of money and will be one of the best, if not the best, players.  He just can’t cut it at the top level anymore.

ovie ejaria injured

Sunderland expect to be without Liverpool loanee Ovie Ejaria when they host Brentford on Saturday, but Jonny Williams is in contention to return.

Ejaria has featured prominently since arriving from Anfield on deadline day, with the 21-year-old lining up against Ipswich Town before starting at Ashton Gate in a six-goal thriller against Bristol City.

His absence is somewhat softened by the return of Jonny Williams who has registered plenty of minutes for the club’s under-23s in recent weeks, but the Black Cats will once again be without Lamine Kone and Paddy McNair.

Speaking to safc.com, the Sunderland boss provided the latest team news from within the Camp.

“It looks like we’ll lose Ovie Ejaria,” revealed Coleman.

“He pulled up in training on Wednesday so he’s very doubtful unfortunately but we’ll have Jonny Williams back and in contention.”

He continued: “Adam Matthews has had a good weeks training and so has Callum McManaman.

“Paddy McNair is going to play today for the under-23s because he just needed more minutes, but if comes through that fine, he’ll be back in contention for Tuesday night.

“Lamine has had one session with us and he came through it okay, but we just think Saturday is a little bit early for him and next week should be okay.

“The numbers are probably the best since I’ve been here.”

and we want Sturridge fit to get good market value.
He has only been fit for one full season in his entire career.

Albion now say he will be out for two games- that means four.

There is no good market value for him - ony a pay as you play deal.

Watching Origi against Bayern right now. 35 mins in and it's Benteke levels of inactivity. Perhaps it is the coach's instructions, but he looks far from a Liverpool 9 at this point. May not fit into our style of play. Which is baffling because he was always dangerous here in those moments when he made runs, using his physique and pressing defenders. He just lost that one day and was never the same again.

Pedro Chirivella - Willem II - Played the full 90 in a 2-1 loss to ADO Den Haag. Willem are now 3 points off the Relegation play off spots and have a game at home to Roda JC, the team they're 3 points ahead of, a week today. After that 3 of their next 4 are away from home, including Feyenoord and fellow relegation battlers Twente, and a home clash vs PSV. Hugely important they get a result next week vs Roda JC.
Connor Randall - Hearts - Unused sub as Hearts drew 1-1 away at bottom of the table Ross County. Been a bit in and out of the side lately. Hearts are 6 points clear of 7th placed Motherwell now and look like they'll be in the top half when the SPL does its split in a few weeks time.
Sheyi Ojo - Fulham - Not in the match day squad as Fulham continued their excellent form with a 2-0 win vs fellow promotion chasers Villa. Fulham now in 5th, 6 points off the automatic spots and 5 clear of 7th. Ojo has been injured (again) recently but is fit now.
Divock Origi - Wolfsburg - Played the full 90 upfront vs Bayern in a 2-1 loss. Wolfsburg have lost 3 in a row now and are 1 point off the relegation play offs.
Allan - Apollon Limassol - Played the full 90 in Apollon's second loss of the season, a 1-0 defeat the 2nd division side Othellos, before missing out on the match day squad in a 5-1 league win to keep Apollon in close contact with APOEL at the top of the table. Like Ojo, seems to have lost his place recently after a good run in the side.
Corey Whelan - Yeovil - Yeovil's fantastic form came to an end with a 4-1 loss away at Stevenage, Whelan played the full 90.
Matthew Virtue - Notts County - Came on as a 73rd minute sub in a 0-0 draw away at Newport. Notts are still in the play off spots but really need to improve their form if they're going to remain there.
Marko Grujic - Cardiff - Huge win for Cardiff at home to Boro which moved them into 2nd. Grujic played 71 minutes of the 1-0 win and, as posted above, got very good reviews for his performance.
Daniel Sturridge - West Brom - Injured. For his sake I hope that means he got to stay at home and recover and missed out on West Brom's bizzare trip to Barcelona thats been hitting the headlines all week. Expected to be fit for the crucial upcoming game vs Huddersfield.
Harry Wilson - Hull - Played the full 90 as Hull were thrashed 4-0 by Chelsea in the FA Cup.
Ovie Ejaria - Sunderland - Sunderland's season continued to get worse and worse with a 2-0 loss at home to Brentford. Ejaria missed the game through injury. Quick search of his name on twitter shows that their fans seem to really rate him.
Jon Flanagan - Bolton - Failed to make the match day squad again as Bolton lost 2-0 at QPR. He's yet to play a single minute since signing, according to the manager that's partly due to the system Bolton have been using (3-5-2) and partly due to his fitness. Regardless, doesn't look good for him not being able to get into a side struggling in the Championship.
Markovic - Anderlecht - Still no sign of him as Anderlecht lost 1-0.
Anderson Arroyo - Real Mallorca - Mallorca won 1-0 to maintain their big lead at the top of the table, Arroyo not in squad. Can't find a squad list for the games for Mallorca II to see if he's been playing for them instead.

Yet to play:

Ryan Kent - Bristol City - Important game for Bristol away at Leeds today. A win could put them 5 clear of 7th placed Preston. Would also put an 11 point gap between themselves and Leeds. Game is live on Sky Sports - Kent starts.
Taiwo Awoniyi - Royal Excel Mouscron - Playing at 7pm tonight vs Waasland Beveren. He scored 2 last time out so will be hoping to build up some form.
Naby Keita - RBL - Playing at 7.30pm Monday night away at Frankfurt. Game is live on BT Sport 3.

I don't think any of our loan players will make it here/come back here (apart from some of the new ones and Keita of course).

Arroyo - no idea.
Grujic maybe
Kent maybe
Wilson maybe.
Allan - work permit etc. Klopp raved about him last year though.

Had high hopes for Ojo - but he gets injured a lot and doesn't seem to have the work rate/mentality needed for a Klopp team.

That's probably it.

I hope that Allan plays enough to get himself a work permit. Klopp seems to like him and it will make us DM lovers happy to have a promising young player in that position. Would also be good to have another Brazilian DM. :) Plus he is a friend of Firmino.

I watched most of the Wolfsburg game yesterday and Origi was fairly anonymous.  Naturally Munich had most of the possession, which precluded Origi from getting near the ball, but even during the odd Wolfsburg counter he was seldom to be seen.

Ryan Kent delivers a wicked corner, Bristol City look very impressive from set pieces.

Sheyi Ojo - Fulham - Fulham drew 1-1 away at Bolton but still no Ojo in the squad. Judging by twitter Fulham fans really don't seem to rate him and are happy to see him out for a while.
This happens to Ojo no matter what club he goes to unfortunately.

Ejaria?

Harry Wilson - Hull - Played the full 90 as Hull were thrashed 4-0 by Chelsea in the FA Cup.

Did he? I was in a bar at the time and only glanced at the TV every now and then, but I thought he'd gone off injured after he drew the penalty.
