Carrick refused to be on the standby list. As did Micah Richards. Hence Jordan and Martin getting the call ups.

Is it not a little ridiculous that Michael Carrick, 4 time Prem winner (I think), is being snubbed by Jordan Henderson? Honestly. Come on.

The Cpt'n's right. Turned down a spot if it meant he was on the 'standby' list.

Shouldn't he have been selected, regardless?

Whatever, Im not going to play devil's advocate with a Manc. Whatever England do, they'll be utter shit at keeping the ball as they always are.

Yep. Probably the best English CM this season. There's Hodgson for you.

An excellent passer of the ball. But if Hodge was interested in passing it he'd have taken Rio Ferdinand over Terry.

considering the outcry when carragher retired... of course carrick shouldn't be picked if he'll only play when if he's guaranteed to start. whether he should be guaranteed to start is a different matter

Henderson is better than Cleverley. As for the others, the fact remains that England's big problem is keeping the ball.

Not even going to argue, can't wait to see when you're proven wrong  :wanker

Can't wait to see Hendo under Rodgers.

Hendesonn may be better than Cleverley but he isn't better than the rest, fact is all the players mentioned do what he does plus more. In reality he shouldn't have even been on the standby list if Roy had any clue.

We clearly have different opinions of the ability of Henderson so I don't think we can really have a debate about this. Who is Davies? Pardon my ignorance but never heard of him.

"Lampard, Barry Carrick  Cleverley, Davies even Parker. "

Lampard, Barry and Parker were named in the squad. Carrick would have been on stand-by presumably instead of Henderson if he hadn't declined. So I really do fail to see your point.

Suprised young Thomas of Cleverley didn't get the call with the hype he generated from playing half decent in a community shield game.

Amazing how people haven't noticed, or don't want to notice, that he's normally looked good when he's played in the centre for us, but a bit lost on the right.
Doubt he'lll play much even if he does get called up for England, but I can't wait to see what he can do next season, I'm backing him to perform very well indeed.

I hope Jordan goes to the Euros, it'll be good experience but he won't play and risk getting injured and it'll mean he hasn't got to bother with the bleedin' Olympics.

A couple of injuries in the Euro's and England could end up with a centre midfield of Phil Jones and Jordan Henderson,I wouldn't swap that for Glen Whelan and Keith Andrews.Football's coming home.

I hope he doesn't to be honest, there'll be plenty more tournaments for him in the future but for now it would be good to have some players fit and ready at the start of preseason.

Happy for Jordan. Only 21 (22 soon) and has the world at his feet. All the tools to be a very good player for Liverpool and England. Plus, playing in the Euros rules him out of the Olympics which would otherwise interfere with our season.

Frank Lampard has been ruled out of Euro 2012 due to a thigh injury.

Frank Lampard has been ruled out of Euro 2012 due to injury.

The Chelsea midfielder pulled his thigh in training on Wednesday and was examined today by the England medical staff following a scan.

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson will be called into the squad - subject to agreement from UEFA’s medical team.

England Manager Roy Hodgson said: “It’s a huge blow for the team, especially coming after the loss of another senior player in Gareth Barry. The fact that the doctor cannot guarantee Frank could take part in any of the group matches means we have to replace him in the central midfield area.

“Apart from it being a huge blow to me and the team, I’m especially disappointed for Frank himself.  He has been in very good form and was looking forward to the tournament. He made a huge contribution towards us qualifying for the Euros so it is cruel to be forced out through injury just before the tournament.”

No Barry or Lampard. Bet Gerrard gets played every minute of every game even while 'carrying a knock' and comes back injured.
I am a big fan of Jordan and this could be a great experience for him, but it isn't like Hodgson won't happily throw any players who have a poor game under the bus, so I do worry for both Jordan and Andy. Doesn't matter how well Andy's overall play is, one miss when he should have scored and watch the entire country jump on his back.
