From a selfish LFC fan point of view, I am glad Ibou isn’t capped at senior level for France.

But if he isn’t picked by France soon, then I can only imagine they have the greatest central defenders who ever played the game standing in his way.

He is immense at defending.
At this point, I would prefer him to Matip against Real.
Pace and strength to spare, would be vital against the pace on the wings of Real.

Then again, maybe Matip might still have that little bit of nous against Benzema.....
Not sure, but a great problem to have for Jurgen for the final.

In the very worst case, even if Virgil were not available, I would still not be shitting it if Matip and Konate started the final.

He is a bit of a man mountain not unlike Koulibaly in style and has performed so well in a lot of big games in his debut season. We are lucky to have 3 top class centre backs and a very good fourth all with completely different attributes.

If he continues on this trend then we potentially will have the two best CBs in the world. I honestly dont see a weakness in his game, aerially dominnant, reads the game well. fast, strong. can pass. Like hes 22 and hes almost as good as VVD, and he gets to play alongside him and learn from him.

This dude is going to be a monster for 10-12 years

So ridiculously good

Imagine fans last season saying we are fucked without Van Dijk and we will struggle when he retires etc. Then Juergen gets this lad in and suddenly the future without Van Dijk doesn’t look so bad. Another four years of Klopp bringing this lad on and he could be as good as Virgil in my eyes, an absolute stud of a talent.

He's going to be just over 30 in 8 years time.

He's 1/3rd of a Maguire.

I’ve plenty links to the clubs playing and backroom staff as many on here know thank you very much. Fair enough, I admire your optimism. But you’re absolute ostriches if you think this squad, even with 2 or 3 new, “cut price” players with potential get us anywhere close

I think my favourite part of his performance (and I've seen him do it before) was how he starts the game in a slightly conservative manner. A bit like he's respectful of the senior player next to him. Still doing everything expected of him, just letting the other lead in a way. But as the game goes along he just takes over completely and becomes a 'none shall pass' force of nature.

He's picked up that same no fuss, no drama attitude that Virgil exudes.  I've a mate who's a Chelsea fan that watches a lot of our games (of any games) and he says it's so disheartening watching other teams try to attack us as our defence act like they're tackling their kids in the park.

I thought Southampton might have put Che Adams up alongside Broja towards the end but instead did a like for like change.  I reckon Ibou and Matip would have dealt with both comfortably anyway but it was pipe and slippers time for them last night.

He looked very good in Virgil's position. If he keeps up this level there shouldn't be any drop off when Virgil can't play or is rested, and means he could play with both Joe and Joel without issue.

Remember when people wanted us to buy Caleta-Car last January at the expense of getting our primary long term centre back target.

Can understand why the club were willing to wait until the summer to activate Konate’s release clause.

Started his Liverpool career pretty well and has gotten better and better as the season has progressed. Immense talent for a 22 year old.

There was always some discussion about whether Konate or Upamecano was the best Leipzig centre back. At this point it feels like we got the better player though Konate needs to keep working hard, learning off the other players and coaches to continue his upward trajectory.
I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.

Personally for me there was never a discussion, if you watched them Konate was always the bigger talent. Maybe a bit more raw but %100 the bigger talent

Dayot got hyped more cause of his international call-ups and he was playing regularly at Salzburg at 18.

Hes a good player but youd take Konate all day, stronger, quicker, taller, better in the air. Dayot is maybe better on the ball and passing range but when it comes to defending Konate is clear of him

Iirc didn’t Konate have a pretty bad time with injuries the season before we bought him? Think he didn’t play loads because of that (which was a bit of a worry too), but then by the time he was fit they’d already had a settled defence and he didn’t end up playing that much either, with Upemecano playing every week

This could be one of the top 3 signings Edwards has ever made, and that is saying something. The guy is an absolute behemoth. His game is going to improve to phenomenal levels by the time he is 27. Having Ibou, means we can rest Virgil more next season without having to overload him like this season. Klopp will trust Ibou more next season.
