Didn't he score some important goals for them? I remember the game against City where he scored the winner which made the result 3-2 to United i think.
In the end you could argue Owen won the Premier League for them as it was the season we finished second with only a few points behind United.
Now think about that..
Owen scored against Man City in 09/10. He also scored three against Wolfsburg in meaningless CL game and one against Aldershot in League Cup. That's his contribution for the mancs.

One of the first truly modern footballers this lad

No allegiance whatsoever, only to his own career, which renders him just a goals v games footnote

I don't really have any opinion either way, which probably says it all

I am grateful to MO for the wonderful service he gave to LFC, but the way he messed the club about over his move to Madrid very similar to Macca. Just lost all my respect for him and his move to Man U was desperation by both parties. So long sucker.

Owen gives an interview claiming to always be a red at heart.  Cue pitchforks & internet rage on RAWK.

Yawn.

This. A bit over the top for a guy who served us well. A past player who deserves some respect. Of course he went to that shower of shit up the road but let's be honest about it, he was well past it when he joined them.

It's not like he's El Hadji Douf for fuck sake - pitchforks and internet rage towards him I can understand.

Baffles me how fickle us football fans can be sometimes.

He deliberately manouvered us to the point where we had to take a big hit on him financially by continously claiming he was closeto a new deal etc but forced us to accept a paltry Ģ8m for a Ģ25m rated player...

He then joined the mancs.... Plus lets not forget he was englands michael owen.. Country and personal ego first, lfc 2nd.

Theres a reason the likes of traore, biscan, smicer etc get more respect and thats cos they put the effort in and cared. He didnt.

The biggest problem I have with Owen is the way he left us. He kept hinting he would sign a new deal, then never did, and finally was let go for the knock down price of 8M, plus Nunez (if I recall correctly).

After that it all went to pot for him. He was a bit part player for a season in Spain, then he came back to England. None of us will ever know the full details, but I think we may have been interested again at that point, only not at the price Real Madrid wanted, especially since they got him for a pittance a year earlier.

Had Owen stood strong with Madrid and said he would only go to Liverpool, we would have been in a stronger position. Instead, Newcastle came in, gave Madrid the money they wanted, and Owen went there, largely to protect his England career.

(This is the best I can remember. If it didn't go down like this I'm more than happy to be corrected).

Anyhow, he then suffered a couple of major injuries and slithered into irrelevance. Newcastle paid the most money for the least return. Man Utd got nothing out of him. As a Liverpool fan I will always remember the service he gave us and the goals he scored. When he was a youth player we got a little Jack Russell pup and called it Owen! Cracking little dog he was, God rest his soul.

Nowadays? I agree with the notion that Owen is protecting his image. He knows we are on the rise so it is good to be linked to us again, even if his time at the club didn't end well, and even if his career as a player lost its way a long time ago.

Well played sir!

I saw him a few months back (Mother's day I think, what's that March?) in a pub in Chester. As I walked in he started starring at me and continued to do so for the whole time I was in there, I thought he was gunna come over and try and snog me! Why didn't he go to Everton? It was his last chance to play for the team he supported as kid and he would have played a lot more games than he did at Man Utd.

I donīt hate him, but I donīt like him. He gave me some fucking good times tho and did very well for us during his time here. And I understand his decision to play for Man U, the best club in the country and a far better option then Everton if you wanna win things but he doesnīt have that same connection to the club like Gerrard, Fowler, Carra etc so his decision to join them lot didnīt surprise me at all (considering how he is) but it made me very angry and sad because he was a great player for us but his legacy was swept away the same second he signed for them. Still hold him in much higher regard then Torres and Suarez though.

He ran his contract down whilst we were throwing money at him, in complete contrast to the Macca debacle.

My abiding memory of him was away at Bolton, absolutely fuckin' freezing, there was little Micky stood on the halfway line with his hands on his hips shaking his head at how shit the players around him were.

I was glad when he left.

He is not, and never was, one of us.

Not sure about being a red at heart but he is up there with the worst commentators/pundits.  Absolutely clueless with an obvious lack of research.
