Well there is an outside investigator who could look into this stuff. They're usually referred to as a Speical Prosecutor.  You really should appoint one, Donnie. It'd clear everything pretty quickly.

I just love how the sole purpose of the white house staff, government advisors etc is now to keep the president happy. Its like he's some sort rare animal on the brink of extinction or something, just make sure he is pampered and nothing upset him.

Going back to the election (sorry). Two professors decided they'd like to switch the genders of Trump and Clinton to see how that made a difference for how an audience perceived the debates. It didn't. The female actor using Trump's lines and mannerisms came across even better than Trump did...

You pull this kind of crap a few times at a decently run company you'll get let go without fuss. I have no idea how their processes for impeachment work, but if they can substantiate this with sworn testimony, is this grounds for impeachment under a president being unfit to discharge his duties? That section is supposed to be very open to interpretation, which of course shifts the decision to the VP, his party, staffers etc. Which under the current Republican dominion isn't happening, I suppose.

Every time i see this c*nt at 'work' I can't help asking myself how the hell did you (the uni) let this ballbag in? They've got an alright rep, but this ? Just how? It's not even about specifics, the basics of the process of learning simply don't exist with him. You can recognise that regardless of field, from a car mechanic to a mathematician.

'It's like kumbaya:' Trump's genial private meetings with CEOs jar with public attacks
Reuters
By Ginger Gibson and David Shepardson

When the bosses of some of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies headed to Washington in January to meet U.S. President Donald Drumpf, it had all the makings of a potentially hostile meeting.

Just weeks before, Trump had sent drug stock prices plummeting after accusing the companies of "getting away with murder" by charging too much for medicines.

But the Trump who greeted chief executives of Johnson & Johnson (JNJ.N), Novartis (NOVN.S), Merck (MRK.N), Eli Lilly (LLY.N), Celgene (CELG.O) and Amgen (AMGN.O) on Jan. 31 was a surprisingly genial host who even gave them a personal tour of the Oval Office, according to several participants in the breakfast.

“There is no question that it was better than it could have been or we thought it could be," said one industry insider familiar with the meeting.

Trump did not repeat his public attacks on the industry. Instead, he focused on "outdated" regulations that drive costs up for drugmakers, according to participants interviewed by Reuters. The CEOs left with Trump's word that he would streamline regulations and reform the high U.S. corporate tax rate.

Since taking office on Jan. 20, Trump has held at least nine meetings with groups of business leaders, including automakers, airlines, retailers and health insurers. In early morning or late-night tweets and in speeches, Trump has lambasted many of these companies for cost over-runs, or high prices, or foreign manufacturing, often knocking down their share prices. (See the effects of Trump's tweets on stock prices here http://tmsnrt.rs/2ibdFSF).  But Reuters interviews with nearly a dozen executives and lobbyists who have taken part in these meetings or have been briefed on them reveal a Trump who is very different from his uncompromising and demanding @realDonaldTrump Twitter handle.

When he meets the nation's top chief executives in person, he is a mix of charm and cajoling. This Trump is flexible and inquisitive, a schmoozer who remembers birthdays and often lavishes praise on their companies, said the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity so they could freely discuss private meetings.

This private side of Trump sheds light on why many CEOs have expressed confidence that the Republican president is good for business, despite his share-denting public attacks. As recently as Tuesday, Trump tweeted he was working on a system to increase competition in the health industry and lower drug pricing, sending pharma shares lower.

In the White House meetings, Trump focuses much of his talk on cutting regulations, the sources said, underscoring one of his administration's key priorities - getting rid of rules imposed by his predecessor Barack Obama. He typically asks which regulations are holding businesses back from adding new jobs and promises to resolve the issues, executives say.

"He said one thing for the cameras and the door shuts and then it's like kumbaya," said one person who was briefed on a meeting between Trump and a group of CEOs.

"He likes to be seen as engaging and buddy buddy with other big important business leaders," said this person.

A former businessman, Trump runs his closed-door meetings with CEOs as if they were a corporate board meeting, attendees said. In contrast to his doctrinaire tweets, he likes to seek input from everyone at the table, and compared to former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush, conversations are less scripted.

Trump’s approach to these meetings is “one of listening and not lecturing”, said a senior White House official who has participated in industry meetings. “I’ve seen a president who is listening and asking questions to get to how he can create a thriving economy,” the official said.

An Amgen spokeswoman said Trump made it clear that he wanted to work with the company on U.S. job creation and biotech innovation. Representatives of the other drugmakers declined to comment.

SHOWING OFF THE DRAPES

Because so little is known about how Trump interacts privately with CEOs, trade groups and company officials have begun to swap tips on how to approach their meetings with him.

“There is this undercurrent of information sharing about what to expect, what to do,” said one trade group official who prepared CEOs for a recent meeting with Trump. He said he has gotten a flurry of calls from other industries next in line for a White House visit.

At the end of most meetings, Trump leads CEOs into the Oval Office, showing off paintings, sculptures and the furniture, as well as the rug and curtains he has picked out. He also points out a bust of Martin Luther King Jr., which he inherited from Obama. Then he takes a group photo behind the desk.

“He becomes tour guide and brings them over to the Oval Office,” the same official said. “He’s very proud of the Oval Office.”
The White House official said Trump recognized the “awe” of the Oval Office.

CHAIR FOR GM, BIRTHDAY WISH FOR FORD

Chief executives of Detroit's top three automakers - General Motors Co (GM.N), Ford Motor Co (F.N) and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV (FCHA.MI) - were pleasantly surprised when they went to the White House for a breakfast with Trump on Jan. 24.

Since his election, Trump has frequently attacked the car companies for building in Mexico and warned U.S. firms would no longer be able to move U.S. jobs abroad "without consequences."

When Trump entered the Roosevelt Room, he greeted GM CEO Mary Barra with a playful tap on the shoulder as he gently prodded her to add jobs in the United States and later pulled out her chair before the meeting started, a review of the video transcripts of the first part of the meeting shows.

He greeted Ford CEO Mark Fields with a "Happy Birthday. It's his birthday ladies and gentlemen." Trump said it was a "great honor" to see Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne.

Trump did not specifically ask them to build plants in the United States - as he had tweeted he would before the meeting - but instead listened to their complaints about regulations and indicated a willingness to help them, people briefed on the meeting said.

Ford declined to comment and referred to Fields' comments to dealers in January that Trump had asked for a list of regulations that automakers wanted cut or kept.

GM CEO Mary Barra said in a speech last week that Trump “really listened” to the automakers, while Marchionne told reporters at the Geneva auto show on Tuesday that Trump was “quite willing to make our lives easier” in terms of compliance and taxes in order to encourage U.S. job creation.
Trump has been complimentary of his high-profile guests - and at times playful.

After Denise Morrison, chief executive of Campbell Soup (CPB.N), introduced himself in one of those meetings, Trump quickly responded: "Good soup."

At another, after Target Corp (TGT.N) CEO Brian Cornell spoke, Trump responded by pronouncing the name of the company as “Tar-Jay,” a common joke to make the retailer sound more fancy.

Good to see Trump using the powerful US government to garner the best information available:

Trump met with TMZ's Harvey Levin in the Oval Office

Since Inauguration Day, President Trump has spent his time meeting with heads of state, titans of industry, economic advisers and public health specialists.

And the founder of TMZ.

Mr. Trump, in a meeting last Wednesday that went unmentioned on his public schedule, spent about an hour in the Oval Office chatting with Harvey Levin, the tabloid emperor whose Los Angeles-based news site and television show are leading purveyors of gossip and scandal.

Mr. Levin, 66, visited the day after Mr. Trump’s first formal address to Congress, and was given a warm White House welcome. He received a tour of the presidential residence, including a stop in the Lincoln Bedroom — photographs of which he proudly showed to friends after returning to Los Angeles, one of the people said. Both spoke on condition of anonymity to share details of conversations that were intended to be private.

China grants preliminary approval to 38 new Trump trademarks - AP

SHANGHAI (AP) — China has granted preliminary approval for 38 new Trump trademarks, paving the way for President Donald Trump and his family to potentially develop a host of branded businesses from hotels to insurance to bodyguard and escort services, public documents show.

Trump's lawyers in China applied for the marks in April 2016, as Trump railed against China at campaign rallies, accusing it of currency manipulation and stealing U.S. jobs. Critics maintain that Trump's swelling portfolio of China trademarks raises serious conflict of interest questions.

The trademarks cover businesses including branded spas, massage parlors, golf clubs, hotels, insurance, finance and real estate companies, retail shops, restaurants, bars, and bodyguard and escort services — though it's unclear whether any such businesses will actually materialize in China. Trump has pledged to refrain from new foreign deals while in office, and many companies register trademarks in China only to prevent others from using their name inappropriately.

Could the GOP resistance to the bill be a way for the Republicans to clip Trump around the ear and remind him to play their way because he sat on their ticket rather than being a rogue element that does what he feels like?

Seems unlikely that they'd get all considerate of the poor uninsured now considering their vehiment opposition to Obamacare.

Yeah there's very little substance, but that subreddit was part of the online social media push prior to the election. There's crazy upvotes and numbers there, if it was allowed to be shown on Reddit's front page then Reddit would be entirely Trump shit. Perhaps there's a large amount of bots, hard to tell.

Most of it like you say is attacks on ultra-left/SJW bloggers and shit... it's all so minor but you spend enough time browsing that it all starts to feel like a call to arms, don't they realise they 'won'?

Also, with regards to Trump's followers turning against the Bill, they'll be turning on the "establishment" Republicans first. Every fuck up from this government will be spun as the establishment GOP trying to exert control over Trump. It's going to be a long fucking time before this loyalist band snap out of their delusional alternative reality.

Thankfully, I don't think these loyalists are going to make much difference. The margins of his "victory" are small enough to be overturned once the more reasonable people start seeing through this bullshit.

Trump is going back to Florida this weekend again. At this point, 7 weeks in, he has spent about 23% of his term on vacation.

From a recent Vox article asking about his vacationing during the CPAC:
Quote
“I resented Obama going to all these places overseas, particularly because his agenda was anti-American,” Ely said. “But the way people make up the stories about the Trumps, I don’t know if I believe it. I don’t think it’s accurate.”

Similarly, Arthur Herstein, 74, a writer from Bowie, Maryland, said he was frustrated by Obama’s “over-the-top” vacation and travel expenses.

Still, Herstein said he doesn’t believe it’s the case that Trump is on pace to spend more on vacation and travel. He waved away a Washington Post story held up on a reporter’s phone.

“I believe that the story exists,” Herstein said. “But the facts in it can’t possibly be right. That absolutely can’t be right. How did Trump spend $10 million in one month and Obama spent $11 million in a year? It defies logic.”

Grace Germany, sporting an “Adios Obama” pin, said she was bothered that the Obamas would take a vacation with a “humongous entourage with all of their friends — and their friends’ friends — at taxpayer expense.”

She said it would bother her if Trump did the same, but that there’s no evidence he had so far. Asked about the Mar-a-Lago trips, Germany responded that they’re different because the Trump family is accustomed to staying in the Florida home — whereas, she said, the Obamas only started taking lavish trips once in office.

“That is what they had beforehand,” Germany said.

Like many others, Germany also pointed to Trump’s pledge to refuse the president’s $400,000 salary (one that appears to be true, even if it strikes critics as a stunt). If Trump was using taxpayer money for expensive travel, she reasoned, why wouldn’t he be taking the salary?

“You have to recognize that he’s not even taking a salary,” she said. “He’s not doing this for money.”

Kent, of Ohio, also argued that Trump’s weekend getaways to Mar-a-Lago don’t amount to vacations, since he’s held some official meetings and press conferences while at his Florida home.

“When they say ‘Mar-a-Lago,’ that’s not a vacation. He’s wearing suits — he’s clearly working,” Kent says. “It stuns me that they say he’s ‘on vacation.’ I say, ‘What vacation?’”

The word 'Science' disappears from Environmental Protection Agency mission statement

The government will instead focus on work that is 'economically and technologically achievable'

The Environmental Protection Agency has had all reference to science removed from its mission statement.

The EPA once proudly told visitors that a large part of its work was scientific research to help improve the climate and the environment. But those references have since been removed and replaced with a reference to things that are "economically and technologically achievable".

Campaigners have said that the change is likely hugely significant, in line with other attempts to remove scientific and climate change work from the US government. It is just one of a range of changes and statements from officials that seem to signal a significant change in the way the government works.

The removal of the word "is probably the most important thing we've found so far", said Gretchen Gehrke, who works on a team at the Environmental Data and Governance Initiative. "The language changes here are not nuanced—they have really important regulatory implications," she told the New Republic.

The changes were made to the website of the Office of Science and Technology, which among other work develops clean water standards for states.

Until the end of January, the website described that work as "science-based", meaning that it would make recommendations based on peer-reviewed, solid scientific work into what counts as safe levels of pollutant in water meant for drinking, swimming or fishing. But now that reference has been removed, and it has been replaced by a message saying only that clean water will be recommended where it can conform to "economically and technologically achievable standards".

As such, it could mark a major movement from working with scientists to guarantee safe water for citizens of the US. Instead, those decisions could just be made based on the technology that is available.

Even more, the wording could be used to reduce the regulations that currently apply.

Environmentalists often argue that clean water should be assessed by scientists on a performance basis, who check for the amount of certain pollutants that are found in water. But instead, the technological approach could just require companies to install certain pieces of equipment – whether or not that equipment makes the water clean enough to drink or swim in.

The move towards technological language is in keeping with the outlook of new head of the EPA, Scott Pruitt. He has argued repeatedly that his job is to work with stakeholders including industry, farmers and business owners – but not environmentalists or scientists – to protect the environment.

The Union of Concerned Scientists, a science advocacy organisation, told The New Republic that it shared those concerns. Moving towards what companies claim is feasible for them would mark a "major change in direction" and could signal that the EAP is turning to see their job "as being a support for business as opposed to safeguarding public health".

And this is why it was silly for Trump to call for an investigation into Obama tapping his wires or whatever.

Best case scenario for him is he looks even more deranged. Worst case scenario, there was a warrant related to people working for him and a court issued it. And it's then out in the open that a court felt there was sufficient cause to grant it.

They probably prefer to get stuck with Obamacare. Why? If they kill it people will know what the benefits actually are as they disappear. Also the Republicans would then own the alternative. And any real solution would never satisfy the radical right of the party.

There'll be plenty who will stomach just about anything Trump does as long as it damages their enemies more...

The 'enemy of my enemy is my friend' thing. It's what glues the social conservatives and fiscal conservatives into one party.

Is it wrong to look forward to these same muppets realising 6 to 12 months down the line, that they well and truly picked the wrong horse?

Slight correction.
When they finally spot the big elephant in the room, they will realise they should have picked the donkey instead. ;)

What outfit is that?

Also, with regards to Trump's followers turning against the Bill, they'll be turning on the "establishment" Republicans first. Every fuck up from this government will be spun as the establishment GOP trying to exert control over Trump. It's going to be a long fucking time before this loyalist band snap out of their delusional alternative reality.

Thankfully, I don't think these loyalists are going to make much difference. The margins of his "victory" are small enough to be overturned once the more reasonable people start seeing through this bullshit.

The loyalists are irrational, and have guns. There will be more people killed by disgruntled Trumpers than Muslims in the next few years.

Yeah, they're finding out now it's far easier to oppose something than to create an alternative, with all the complexity and compromises that involves (who knew?) - same with extremist politicians everywhere.

They're now finding opposition with both the "moderates" who presumably are under pressure in marginal districts and the far-right nutters opposing any sort of government initiative. With all the Democrats also opposing, they'll have a hard time getting majority support.

Sean Spicer wrongly claims Fox reporter's phones were 'tapped'

"James Rosen had his phone, multiple phones tapped," Spicer said at the daily press briefing. The comment was made while Spicer was addressing a question about leaks from the intelligence community and new WikiLeaks' documents detailing alleged CIA hacking operations.

That claim, which has been propagating in conservative media for several days, was shot down by none other than Rosen himself during a recent appearance on Fox News.

"I was not wiretapped, my parents were not wiretapped, which is where you place a listening device on someone's telephone line and you listen to their conversations," Rosen told Fox & Friends on Sunday after the show's hosts claimed his phones were tapped.

Instead, Rosen explained, former Attorney General Eric Holder had secretly designated Rosen a criminal co-conspirator -- because he had received classified information from a former State Department contractor -- thereby giving the government permission to subpoena Rosen's emails and phone records, including those of his parents.

When asked to clarify the administration's stance, White House deputy press secretary Sarah Sanders told CNNMoney, "There are multiple reports on this matter."

Sanders did not cite specific reports, but several right-wing outlets have falsely claimed that the Obama administration wiretapped Rosen. "In fact, it's widely known that Obama's Justice Department targeted journalists with wiretaps in 2013, most famous Fox News' James Rosen and his family," The Blaze reported, erroneously, on Saturday.

CNNMoney reached out to Rosen for comment on the matter, then received an email from Fox News press relations declining comment.

On Twitter, however, Rosen confirmed that his phones had not been tapped, but that his phone records and emails had been obtained by the Justice department.
