Agree with the above, he always had a certain charm to him that made it impossible to dislike him.

Along with Houllier, Wenger and Ferguson, Sven was one of the first football managers I was aware of when young. Such sad news, and I hope the next year shows for him how much he was loved.

The impact he had when he took over at England was immediate. Felt he could do no wrong up to the point Brazil knocked them out. Some say he should have done more with that squad. By the same token he was unlucky to lose on or altos to Portugal twice, especially in 2004. And as soon as he left England dropped like a stone.

Obviously had a great time in Italy in the 90s too. Always seemed sound.

I hope he is still in reasonable health by the end of the season. Maybe he and Klopp could go head to head in a charity game.

Sky News have picked this up now - https://news.sky.com/story/sven-goran-eriksson-liverpool-fans-want-to-grant-dying-wish-for-lifelong-supporter-13047392

If this happens it would be so fucking great. Surely people from the club have seen it and would bring him on board.

It would be a lovely idea, if he was up to doing it.

I'd support this, but only up to a point. It depends on what lineup is he willing to go with, also what's his preferred formation? These are big decisions...

Kidding of course :D I think it'd be a fantastic idea to have him there, and Wembley for the England v Brazil match.

Awful news, I always thought he stayed longer in charge of England than he should have had. By 2006 he looked really tired and worn.

By the same token he was unlucky to lose on or altos to Portugal twice, especially in 2004. And as soon as he left England dropped like a stone.

Referees first, then luck was against him in 2004. :)

Such a shame. He's still very dignified in the face of such a disease.

I never had a problem with Sven as England manager, if it wasn't for Seaman getting done then who knows..

I felt the English press were always a bit snide with him.

The 5-1 against Germany and the excitement of the 2002 World Cup definitely helped my love of football as a kid.

That 5-1 must have been extra sweet for him if he was a lifelong Liverpool fan btw    ;D

Was very tight margins the QF losses. Remember in Euro 2004 Campbell had a goal disallowed for pretty soft foul on keeper. And Rooney going off with an injury too (then getting sent off in 06!)

Nearlys don't count for much I know but there hasn't been a more likeable England manager since him has there.

I remember the Mirror's back page the next day, Liverpool 5 - 1 Germany. Fantastic game.

And to be fair to the English press, they got their wish in Roy Hodgson becoming manager.

Heartwarming story if the club does it. I knew he supported us a while ago but it seems like he was a staunch red from his early days with his arl fella being a red.

Come on LFC get it sorted. 👍

Sven's England team was the last time I was really into the national side. Fond memories of the 2002 World Cup with the early morning games before GCSEs exams.

The xenophobia in the press with Sven and latterly Capello really killed it, part of the whole Ingerland circus really.

Thanks for posting that. I was going to mention it, but thought I’d check first, love that quote, and I love people who are able to appreciate and enjoy life.

Best wishes to Sven and his family. I’d like to see him at Anfield.

Yet another decent man mauled by the English press, a press that largely refused to give Hodgson the treatment he undoubtedly deserved. Sums up the cronyism that is so rife in the UK.

Sven and his son were already going to the game as Fans.

They have life in them, they have humour, they're arrogant, they're cocky and they're proud. And that's what I want my team to be.
