Guenther Steiner was a character in the paddock no doubt about that, but at the end of the day it’s a results driven industry and the results haven’t been there

FUCKING HELL!!!! :P

They are going to save money on doors and doorframes in the paddock.

He seemed like a nice guy and a character. But I don't think a change in team principle is going to help their overall situation

Yep. Their progression seemed reasonable after three years, but they've stalled badly since a decent showing in 2018. They never really look like they're going anywhere and the entire team's time in the sport only avoids being entirely forgettable enough due to Romain Grosjean's accident in Bahrain and a couple of feel-good moments following Magnussen's return.

Do I remember them having a season or two (maybe 2019/2020) when their progress was basically being held back by them being unable to commit down the Grosjean- or Magnussen-preferred engineering route?

Guenther Steiner sacked over the phone between Christmas and New year. Bit harsh unless they have Andretti waiting in the wings.

Obviously Haas F1 performances haven't been where they have needed. But Steiner has managed to get that that team through some very rocky patches (COVID, mazepin) and he was very marketable (his face was used alongside Wolff, Horner to market F1 games and then the whole Netflix shows).

Comes around quicker every year. I'm guessing the only car that will have notably bigger differences on their previous car is Mercedes? The rest were already, incrementally, aligning in some way to the Red Bull.

Edit: Mercedes just confirmed their launch date as Feb 14

McLaren already giving us the new livery for the year - car launched properly same day as Mercedes (Feb 14)

They've dropped the blue. Lots more black  :'( They went full Arrows, never go full Arrows.

McLaren - this is a massive year for them isn’t it? They’ve got a brilliant engine, some would argue one of the best driver pairings on the grid. Get the other bits right they’ll be right in the mix more than they were in 2023.

I’d say so. New wind tunnel online, Rob Marshall officially onboard… they’ll want to continue that upward curve they were on where upgrades meant performance gains

Must be weight-saving with that much black on the car, I've only seen more black on cars when they're more or less using the exposed carbon fibre.  Looks like a Spyker now.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spyker_F8-VII#/media/File:Adrian_Sutil_2007_Brazil_free_practice.jpg

As has been said, big year for the McLarens, probably a big year for Williams and Alex Albon too.

Rumours of Ferrari finding up to 10kgs of weight saving. So expect a lot of black on their car too.

I bloody hate this new trend of having half the livery as just exposed carbon fibre.  If it was a nice shiny deep black, that may look ok - but it’s just a dull, half-matte, greyish black like a black rubbish bin.  What was once a colourful grid with lots of gorgeous shiny cars is now lots of dull black cars with a few colour accents.  Rubbish.

Has F1 always been this capitalistic and commercial?  Maybe it’s just me slowly falling out of love with the sport, but it just seems like (especially since Liberty took charge) it’s just been all about making as much money as possible and nickel & diming regular punters.  The actual sport and racing itself seems to be a complete afterthought - it’s all about the show and the dosh. But maybe ‘twas ever thus.

I’m just not feeling F1 at the moment.  Racing in shitty countries for the money, sprint weekends, team names being called fucking Visa Cashapp RB and Stake Team Kick, juveline and cringy bantz social media output.

Maybe I’m just an old miserable fucker  :-X

I imagine so, but with the sources of money simply being in different places.

For today's betting firms and financial sponsors, you'd once have had a grid of cars wrapped.up in cigarette box liveries.

There’s a chicane just before a bridge. If you miss the breaking point you basically go straight into the bridge. It’s got to be changed for safety reasons
