My brother bought me this as a Christmas gift - not usually the sort of thing I'd pick up for myself (rarely stray from Pro Evo, GT, GTA, and F1) so it'll take me ages to get to grips with it but I'm happy to give it a go.

I only read the first page of the topic (didn't want any story spoilers) but I gather that there's consensus that the game's much better played co-op?

So then, how are we doing on this?

First playthrough for me, managed to get Axton up to level 24 currently, I've unlocked the Thousand Cuts section of the map, but before I move on with the story I'm going to do all the remaining optional missions. Just done the three-way standoff mission where you're searching for Mordecai's treasure chest.

I've been a bit underwhelmed with a lot of the weapons so far - to me anyway, there seemed to be a lot more variation from the get go in the original Borderlands, even if we now have a fifth elemental weapon type to play with.  I also think the amount of rare weaponry has dropped, especially those obtained from challenges and from the weapons chests.  I'm hoping we find something akin to Sledge's Shotgun and the likes in this.

Have to say though, overall the game is magnificent.  I love what they've done with the skill tree system, I like the tweaks to the artefacts and how they affect you, I love the fact they've extended the amount of non-playable characters and that they've really given them some character (Tina, Sir Hammerlock, Moxxi) - but above all I love Handsome Jack.

He is the greatest video-game character ever.  Fact.

one thing annoyed me,  you do that quest to get the laser gun weapon

then there are no other laser guns in the entire game, ever

seems a waste

I put off turning that mission in just to keep the gun. On my second playthrough now, and found another one of those, though significantly less fun.

There are other E-tech guns in the game, in fact I looted one last night after killing King person that I find irritating in Eridium Blight - it's a sniper rifle called the Banbury Railer.

The E-tech weapons are noticeable as they're noted by a magenta title.  There are 3-6 E-tech weapons per group, for example, there are 6 E-tech pistols, one from each gun manufacturer apart from Jakobs (Hyperion, Dahl, Vladof, Bandit, Tediore and Maliwan) with their characteristics the same as normal weapons from those gun-makers, but with an added bonus.

The sniper rifle I have is a rail gun, rather than a sniper rifle, and it fires two bullets at once, with the weapon dealing electrical damage.

Yeah, they're designed so you can shoot multiple enemies at once.

I have a couple of these things now - the sniper rifle I've mentioned, a rocket launcher that scores about 19,000 points worth of damage, as well as a SMG.

Quick tip/cheat - if you tip Moxxi enough money, not only do you get an achievement, you can also get a rare gun from her.  If you tip her $10,000 you get the "Sugar Daddy" achievement, and if you keep going, at some point before $20,000 you'll unlock "Miss Moxxi's Bad Touch (SMG)".  Keep going all the way up to $50,000 and at some point she'll offer you her "Good Touch (SMG)".

Has anyone found any orange weapons?  I've found three - one after killing King person that I find irritating, one after completing Fink's Slaughterhouse and the third other after killing The Warrior for the second time (which is a great way of farming rare weapons/eridium).  The first one was a 6 shot Rocket Launcher, the second one was an SMG, the third was an explosive shotgun.  I've seen people talking though about sniper rifles that do 100,000 points worth of damage?

Holy shit!

Anyhoo, finished the first playthrough last night -  no spoilers, but I definitely can't wait for Borderlands 3!  And also Terramorphus is going to get his slimy, worm-like ass kicked when I've levelled up enough.

Yup.

I binned XBL a few weeks ago so I couldn't have played it co-op even if I'd wanted to.  I'm debating putting it back on at some point though as my brother is a huge fan and keeps pestering me!

New DLC came out the other day, Gearbox really do shame other companies, with the size and quality of their DLC.

Only one more to go though, sadly.

Not yet, oddly. Think I read on Eurogamer that it's happening aside from the DLC, in the coming weeks.

I have the season pass so these DLCs are really cool and all, but there's no incentive to even touch the game until they sort out the level cap. I maxed my soldier midway through the second playthrough without even touching the DLCs.  :butt

Gone and renewed my Gold membership - and managed to get 3 Shift codes!

Hit the box three times, the first attempt produced nothing other than some health relics, but the other attempts were better - two shit hot pistols, and then two stonking shotguns.

Could be yeah. I entered a Shift code the other day and was given 3 (instead of the usual one) so it could be just glitches in the system.

I'm still more upset about the level cap to be honest.

Used my last two Shift Keys today (I'm currently level 44) and been rewarded with a Jackobs Dastardly Revolver, which does just shy of 7,000 points worth of damage, and comes with a scope.  The thing is a beast.

Agreed, I really enjoyed the ending.

I'm not sure how to post spoiler tags, but apparently Gearbox have trademarked a new title which you'd expect to be used for any follow up.

I won't post it just in case there are people out there who haven't yet finished the campaign.
