It is very hard to come in at CB at his age. It is very, very hard to play CB at that age when the midfield offers almost no protection. It is very very very hard to play CB at that age when the midfield offers almost no protection and there is no quality senior pro next to you talking you through the game.

I feel sorry for the lad. He would do a hell of a lot better with a Carra, Sami or even a Lucas next to him.

He's looked good at fullback - players his age rarely look good at center back. When did Carra move there?

I think it was pretty much when Benitez took over and sold Henchoz? That was when Carra was 26.

On the other hand players like Terry and Ferdinand were playing consistent first team football at CB from 20/21.

I think Gomez has a huge ceiling in terms of talent and athleticism but it isn't straightforward to find a position for him - he's not a natural enough centre back to put him straight in there at 20 but at the same time he is never going to be as good as he can be playing full back long term.

Ideally he should be starting with a better CB than Klavan to learn the role but it is what is, maybe this could be the making of him.

Fucking hate the term 'not convinced.....' the world and his wife trots out that fucking sterile lawyer speak clap trap these days. It's not smart nor clever, just dumb and I'm not convinced by it.

Joe Gomez is boss and will play centre back on a regular basis for Liverpool. Enjoy him for he is a boss 20 year old footballer

Agreed.

Pathetic those who are writing him off and criticising him.

No centre-halves are the finished article at 20 years old, i've seen more than enough to suggest he has all the tools.

I like him he can go on to be very good but he got skinned very easily by Albrighton for Vardys goal. He sold himself when he should have perhaps not dived in.

Yes, he looked tired towards the end and was really struggling with the pace of the game. Once his body is tuned to the tempo, that kind of mistake shouldn't happen. I really want him to regain his pre injury form, at LB when he joined, he was fantastic.

He's getting a bit hung out to dry when he plays full back, as he often looks completely shot on 70 minutes. Then mistakes inevitably follow. Would have liked TAA to come on for him (or Milner), but Milner in front of him helped him out loads.

He's not a fullback and maybe he can become a good centerback, but at the moment he is getting exposed defensively as is Trent when he plays.

If we weren't shit defensively, we could afford to ease him in and give him more chances. But I would be really inclined to play Milner there instead.

He looked shot in midweek after 60 mins at CB then started making, mistake after mistake.

I see him as a CB but he needs to improve his concentration levels.

Give the kid time though.

He has Salah infront of him who is still getting used to how to defend as a Liverpool forward, the protection is not always there, thats not to say Salah leaves him exposed. Once Clyne gets back the likes of Gomez and Trent will be protected alot more in terms of game time.

His best performance today by an absolute mile. Solid defensively, made a couple of important tackles and kept both Martial and Rashford quiet, played a perfect ball into Firmino in the second half and also whipped in a lovely cross that Can should have done much better with.

In the build up to the game to (to quote Conor McGregor) 'the pundit pussies' thought Martial and Rashford would have their way with him.

He left the pitch with each of them in his arse pockets.

just shows what TAA needs to do defensively.

Top game and kept martial and then Marcus "ronaldinho" rashford quiet when he came on.

plays like a CB playing at RB but thats what needed in this kind of games.

He was very good, but to be honest I'm not at all surprised. People were very harsh on him a few weeks back, to think that he's a centre-back playing as RB at the age of 20 and coming back of a massive injury...

I would like to see him as a CB for us. He's very technically capable and intelligent.

To think some people criticised his end ball in the prematch thread, he put in a great cross and set up Firmino with a lovely crisp first time pass.
