FA using common sense :)
« on: January 15, 2013, 04:09:34 pm »
Kompany's red card from the weekend has been overturned. Good to see English football is not going down the La Liga route...yet!

Just to play devils advocate for a second (no, I don't believe it myself  ;) )

Surely if they don't want to undermine referee's, then how can they overturn a decision that an official has made, yet when it suits them, they wont overturn similar incidents from other players or other teams.

If say, Ryan Shawcross or Joey Barton had made this exact same tackle, would they of overturned his red card?   I doubt it somehow.

As fans, all we want is for officilas to get decisions right, and when they don't, all we want to see if fairness and justice, but they don't help themselves, do they.

Have they set a precedent here?

Whats to stop other players challenging any similar red card, and using this incident as evidence?

Shit, I've seen far taimer tackles that get red cards, every week, that they refuse to overturn because it's deemed the referee's decision,. and they back their man etc.

There's no doubt the individual in question, and to a certain extent the club involved definitely have a say on the eventual success of an appeal. I can't help but feel they felt sorry for Kompany after his red card in the FA cup last season.

Haven't they just dropped a linesman for telling Lescott to go and see the Man City fans?

Indeed, influenced by which team the player in question plays for.

If it was one of our players, it would've become a 4 game ban

What has he been dropped for then?

he's been removed by the PGMOL for that match because they think there is too much media coverage surrounding him , especially since its his first season as a prem official

And indeed against.

Not really. He's had reporters calling his phone, knocking on his door and calling his house phone for an interview. He'd be mobbed as soon as he arrived at the ground for his next game.

Don't think he would've been anyway cos of the FA Cup game in the middle of the league games.

A bit different to be honest. I can see how the referee sees malice in Shelvey's as he's steam rolled through Giggs first.

Also, both Evans and Shelvey had their studs up.

This tackle by Kompany was just perfect as usual.
