Bus routes from Old Swan area to the Airport
« on: April 6, 2018, 12:32:29 am »
I've just moved to the Old Swan area and I'm due to start a job up near the airport. First train from the area does not get to Hunts cross(nearest station to airport) until about 730am. Does anyone know a bus route to the airport from Old Swan. I can drive but looking at other options as well.

Yes mate, the 81A goes direct to the airport and you can get it on Queens Drive. From memory the stop is just before the Wetherspoons on the opposite side of East Prescot Road.

Just a thought on the trains, go to South Parkway, not Hunts Cross, and get a bus to the airport from there. That is how Merseytravel want passengers to go. But from the Swan, a bus is better, saves you getting into town and back out.

There's a great route to cycle to the airport if you've got a bike, offroad nearly all the way. Look up 'Liverpool loop line', or if you turn cycling on in google maps, you can see it. Its an old railway line thats been turned into a (tarmacked) bike path. Runs past Old Swan and all the way to Hunts cross, then follow the transpennine signs into Speke and just cut across to the airport.

This is correct and the best option

Thanks for the info lads really appreciate it but I need to be at work for 7am and the 81a would not get me there until gone then neither would the trains. I'll have a look at the cycling option though.

Catch the 10A Old Swan to Liverpool One, then 86A or 500 to the Airport, 10A is Stagecoach & Arriva QBP with Arriva tickets valid on Stagecoach & vice versa, however Stagecoach tickets are not valid to/from the Airport so you'll need to get the first Arriva bus
Arriva 10A, Old Swan 0511, arrives at Liverpool One 05.30
Stagecoach 10A Old Swan 05.31 arrives Liverpool One 05.50
Arriva 86A Liverpool One 05.58 arrives Airport 06.50
Arriva 500 Liverpool One 05.34 Arrives Airport 06.04, then every 30 minutes

No problem, best ticket would be Arriva weekly ticket which will be valid on Stagecoach 10A, but that'll mean getting the 05.11 on the first day of your shift or after the ticket runs out, then catch the 05.31 rest of the week, it's around £17 for a Merseyside area ticket, or buy a Solo which is bus only ticket, but you might have to go to the Merseytravel Shop in Town, Solo is valid on all bus companies in the Merseyside area, £19 for a weekly one, £64 monthly one.

Bike it, its only about 6-7 miles, takes maybe half an hour, much quicker than the bus.

There's a 61 arrives Old Swan around 6am, arrives Allerton Road around 06.15, then 86A around 06.25 arrives Airport 06.50 both Arriva services, 61 has a new timetable from 22nd April, but first journey is unchanged

61 timetable, https://www.merseytravel.gov.uk/travelling-around/timetables/AllTimetables/61%20Bootle%20-%20Aigburth%20(from%2022%20April%202018).pdf

Arriva are handy as they have a live tracking map.

The 60 to Smithdown then the 86a is a good option.
