Go on Laura Muir.
I've just wiped the sticky residue from my bellend onto the television screen. Taste it Leo. You deserve it.

Poor run by Muir, not a good position from 600 to go.

Tactics always seem to let her down in the big races.

Yeah it was odd, took it out for a reasonable first lap but then didn't wind it up. Then got caught out by Hassan going with 600m left & lost position so had to fight hard to get it back.

Really thought she was going to hit the front and stay there, saying she wanted to to ease back on 2nd lap but to me it was far too much.

I actually think Muir got her tactics about right. She would have gone right back through the field if she ran the second lap too quickly. She gave herself the best possible chance to win a medal, she just wasn't strong enough today. It happens.

Brilliant atmosphere for the 1500m, better than the sprints for me as you really see them winding the pace up. Gutted for Muir, worst place to finish, especially when she  as pipped metres from the line.

She was out injured with a stress fracture recently, so not a bad performance at all.  If it hadn't have been so recent, I think she would have pushed that second lap too.  That's her strength: her strength.

I don't think she was confident that she had the strength to keep pushing; she missed quite a few weeks of training in the build-up with a stress fracture.  Just my observation, I could be wrong?  For example, she was expected to 'smash' Budd's British record for the mile given the shape she was in before the injury, but just wasn't quite there.

Great race anyway.

I think she was strong enough but got hopelessly boxed between 650 and 450 where she was nearly tripped around 600 to go. Then she ran a little too hard at 450 to get back into contention. The US lass and Semenya ran the better even paced races, even though US lass got lucky with the inside track but athletes always tend to drift out when tiring down the home straight.

Amazing that her form has suddenly shot back up since she has come off her testosterone supressors.

Gutted for Muir.

She's a quality runner, and if she was fully fit coming into this, I'm pretty sure she would've challenged for the top two places.

It was a cracking race.  The women's triple jump was good too.

Did the Venezuelan athlete won it with her penultimate jump? And the Colombian got within a couple of cms with her final jump? Couldn't really follow it but looked a great battle.

Yep, it was won with a jump of 14.91, the Colombian jumped 14.88 in the final round.

He's withdrawn which is a shame. Want Van Niekerk to win but still want it to be a race too.

Michael Johnson and Paula Radcliffe are spot on talking about it just now. If they were just open and honest about what was going on and provided clear reasons and explanations for their decision then there would be none of this farcical situation where you have the athlete saying he's fine and yet he's been told he's not allowed to race.

Some details might help as all governing bodies are self interested and only exist for their own benefit.

Anyway piss of back to the cycling thread and your Froome posters  ;)

You know my thoughts as to peds in sport...no one who wins can be clean. We're talking milliseconds and millimetres here...to gain between 5 and 15 % on top of what you're already doing whatever it is that is your sport is an amazing bump. Imagine how much time you gain from being 10% stronger and quicker than a clean runner...it's not doable clean.

I sat outside by the pool in the villa we're staying right now and laughed at the posts in here re Farah. Take Froome's history and you can replace virtually word for word with Farah..the only difference being the Badzilla Fromme had. If...actually it's there to be read. In 2012 in the cycling thread i called out Bradley Wiggins and his team as doping to do what they did that year...if you can recall most of the posters posted exactly what we saw in here the other night...the same blind loyalties that we also put up with from 1998 on with Armstrong..we were right then...now...

Most fans of cycling have made their piece with doping, we know what's going on and we also know that the ADA'a, national and international associations exist to make sure that the sport is not brought into disrepute by the elite riders, in our sport the WorldTour riders, by being caught doping.

Also the scapegoating... that reprehensible. Christie...two infractions, still coaches and isn't booed or pulled up for by the media..Gatlin...it's hypocrisy. I read..Mc Colgan , I think, pulling a runner up for winning after she's trained in Ethiopia, where we know there's no testing...where does Farah train....

The we have as in my sport an acquiescent media...and it's taken advantage of by athletes...we saw the way Sky nad Brailsford treated the media during this edition of the Tour...the same manner that the big bad...Armstrong did in his time..what was it Farah did at his press conference?

I don't care about doping, there's days when I wish I did...and unlike most people who post in here I'm as fit as fuck*, but I can understand the need to  dope. Higher, further , faster...you want these things, the athletes want the rewards that come from doing those things.

*I'm home til Saturday as I come back yesterday to sort out some stuff and as I am my mate and I are off to Hawes in the morning on a 150 mile ride....I've sent the peds on ahead. ;D

Exercise is to the body what reading is to the mind.

"If I hadn't doped, I would never have won". "Doping improves your performance between 5 and 7 per cent, and maybe 10 to 12 per cent when you are in a peak shape.
