In 1969, the US was stuck in the morass of the Vietnam War.
Youngsters. hippies, intellectuals and a great many everyday people were torn trying to make sense of Black Panthers, Richard Nixon, and the Chicago Democratic convention where police were called to corral and control huge demonstrations.
The band that spoke to those concerns directly was The Chicago Transit Authority.
Far from the melodic feelgood balm that they have been known for the past 50 years, they were young, rebellious and commited.
These liner notes from the Producer, james William Guercio shocked me.
"With this album, we dedicate ourselves, our futures and our energies to the people of the revolution. And the revolution in all its forms".As a young man, the last bit made me think WTF.
When you have time, listen to this album, then the next and it's easy to see how all that money changed their style.
