There was no one bigger.

This is a very, very sad day for me. I always felt (and I suspect many feel the same about artisits they love) that I knew him. Personally.

Remember reading somewhere that based on the decades he performed, the genres he covered and the people he inspired, he's considered the most influential person in the history of music. Now is not the time to debate, but he I saw and heard things from different perspectives through his music.

Absolutely one of the greatest ever.

His output, particularly between 1970 and 1974 was prolific and changed the music industry forever. Arguably his best work was still to come.
