what would the "advice for a dublin trip" thread be like without someone telling you to go out in the George, best club in town :/

I remember a taxi driver telling me he'd just dropped a bunch of unsuspecting scottish lads in kilts there one Friday evening. Poor sod. He was laughing so hard he could hardly breathe.

That was nice of the Taxi driver, that he was so happy to see those lads off at the best pub in Dublin, really sound, right

Take a trip up to Johnnie Fox's and drop into the Blue light for one as well.
Go for a round of pitch and putt beforehand. Right beside the Pub (georgie's pitch and putt) 9 iron and a putter will get you around.

Ah the memories of 5 years up there working. Some great days.

Update!

I would advise cancelling your trip. There's something wrong with the sky today. You won't believe this but it's turned.....blue....... and there's a big yellow thing up there too. Local authorities are investigating but the advice so far is to stay indoors wrapped in rosary beads.

Bumping this as I'm off to Dublin for the weekend in a couple of weeks. Never been before so I'm looking forward to it. Any info about things going on just now would be nice but the main thing I'm after is a recommendation for a boozer to watch the match in on the Sunday - we're playing Newcastle at 4pm. Now I don't know what the score is over there with showing the games, is it a case of it being on in pretty much every city centre pub or will it be a struggle to find somewhere?

Anyway, any info on this would be appreciated, thanks.

Every place in town will have the game on, but may I suggest The George on George's Streets. Always a good footie crowd in there and a really friendly atmosphere.

Ignore me, I'm being incredibly thick! Just saw the "we're playing Newcastle" bit and thought you meant this weekend. Having checked, I even got that it wrong because it's Sunderland who are playying Newcastle.

Funnily enough, I was recommended that place by someone else as well. Said it was extremely friendly. I think his name was Waylon something or other.

I'd say Sinnots is a good spot. . Just off St Stephens Green under a shopping mall.

Its a big pub with a round oval-ish bar in the middle and a load of screens including a massive one with a projector.

The Woolshed Baa  is ok on the other side of the river on Parnell street. Its a bit scruffy around there. Its next to the cinema cineworld i think it is.

O'Donoghues is a great shout as is Kehoes. If you're on the north Quay Lannigans is a cracking spot. It'll be my first port of call when I get back home for Christmas. Also Roddy Bolands in Rathmines while off the beaten track used to be a great spot for Liverpool matches.

Have fun, Dublin is great craic. Fuck all in the way of actual stuff to see if you're not into History mind.
I remember years ago doing the fart with your fingers pointed like a gun.

I did it to my brother, I had a dressing gown on.

Cheers everyone. I'm staying in the Hilton next to the Charlemont LUAS stop which looks like it's a short stroll to St Stephens Green - so Sinnots is probably where we'll go.

Ah you're right beside Ranelagh and Rathmines. My favorite parts of town. Lived there for about 5/6 years all up.

Lovely walks along the canal and you're a stones throw form the Aviva should you wish to see it :)

Weather permitting, which it probably won't, you should pop into the beer garden of the Russell Court Hotel on Harcourt St which is just round the corner from you.

I'd also recommend going to the Grand Canal Theatre for the Dead Can Dance gig.....if it weren't already sold out.
