Newcastle getting 4th place would be priceless. Given all the flak we've had for missing out on the top 4 it would certainly be most welcome to see Chelsea AND Arsenal/Spurs joining us on channel 5 next season.

Even if they bag a top 4 spot they can still join us after the group stages 9with the 4th placed team getting 2 chances to join us).

Hope they do; would have a nice mini-PL going on on channel 5 :)
Would love the 19th more and more trophies; but would love even more to see a fan owned LFC.

Toon fans, c*nts that they are now after that classless display last week, should enjoy their current position. They may even finish 5th with Chelsea being distracted by the CL and the inevitability of their good run ending, but it won't last - next year they'll be shit again and I look forward to taking six points off them.

Until last Saturday I really would have said good on them and good luck but nah, us unemployed nobheads know our place.

Like you did last season you mean? Oh had on a minute....................

The Swansea match was largely played in Newcastle's half and the Newcastle players were chasing shadows, thanks to Swansea's fine passing game.  Unfortunately for Swansea, they lack a finisher, something that Newcastle does not lack at the moment.   Cisse has great touch and is very clinical.  The barcodes play on the break and take their chances well.
Long term, and this is not sour grapes,  I'd rather have my club playing like Swansea than Newcastle.  If your striker hits a rough patch, you won't be doing well and this top six side could easily be relegation candidates.  They have sixth place in the bag and if Cisse maintains his form, they might get fifth.  Either way, they should be in Europe next season.  Ironically, we will be helping their cause if we beat Everton  next week, especially if they end up sixth and Chelsea are fifth.

Game largely played in our half?

Think you need to look again sonny jim. Over 50% of the game was in the middle of the pitch. Dont remember Swansea having too many chances so saying the lacked a finisher is a load of crap too. A shot from Siggurdson(sp?) and a deflected shot from Allen is the best they could muster up for all this possession. Play like Newcastle and finish in the top 6 or play like Swansea and finish lower to mid table. No contest is there really...........................

Thats bollocks mate. (I've said all along that) Newcastle have quite a strong full strength first team. The squad might be weak compared to the big boys but the first team isn't.
If you think that a midfield and forward line of Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Tiote, Jonas, Ba and Cisse is relegation fodder, you want yer bumps feeling.

Going back to the Good Friday game, I thought Swansea were absolute shite. They started sprinting and running about and looking busy in midfield when no Newcastle players were near 'em. Swansea take 10 passes when 1 would do.  No wonder they successfully completed 2 million passes during the game.
Newcastle didn't commit themselves to closing down Swansea until they got to the final third. Then they simply snuffed them out, something that I think most teams will be doing to Swansea from now on.
Cant remember a single shot from Swansea from inside the penalty box.

Said it in the match thread. 4th spot in the PL doesn't deserve a CL allocation; whoever places there this season is not going past the group stages.

I actually hope they get it, I mean rather them than spurs or Chelsea. Also they will likely do an everton and never get top four again. They just don't have the financial power with the current owner. As much as Cisse and cabaye are good players, there not gonna go out and spend shit loads to push on even further, they will just stagnate and I wouldn't suprise me if Ashley kept the CL Revenue too.

What a load of bollocks, Tottenham, Arsenal or Chelsea should dispatch the likes of BATE, Olympiacos, Genk, Trabzonspor etc with ease. The only chance they have of not qualifying is by drawing a group like Man City this year, which is unlikely for any of those 3 teams due to co-efficients.

I placed a £20 wager at the bookies before season kicked off, Newcastle to finish in top 4, at odds of 100-1..  Hoping to have 2 Grand next May and a nice little trip to NYC out of it, if not well it's only £20 down the plug hole, and a bit of excitement.

Fingers crossed for Paul!!

If they finish 4th, they finish 4th. It would be interesting to see them in the Champions League, I think they'd surprise a few people as long as they keep their best players, because players like Coloccini and Cabaye have experience playing in Europe.

I'd love to see them in Europe, Saint James stadium would be rocking on European Nights, they could face a group like Barcelona, AC Milan and Napoli however due to their lack of co-efficients. Don't think long term them or Spurs will stay competing for the top 4 however, I think it'll be between us or Chelsea to be the last member of "The Sky Four".

We'll still finish 6th I think. Last three games are Everton, city and chelsea. It's been a great season either way, the only worry is, is that we have over-achieved, and this will lead to stupid expectations next season from our more fickle fans.

Newcastle looking most likely at the moment. Good luck to them.
