Just asked the same question. I assume they weren't tried this time around because there was no forensic evidence linking them to the attack. Pure assumption on my part so if it's not appropriate in here then please ignore/delete but I guess the two who did stand trial have kept their silence until now, hoping they'd get away with it. I wonder if they'll now drag the others down with them - what would be the procedure if they named the other members (it's probably an unlikely scenario but you never know)?

Ones currently banged up for 5 years and the other was convicted for a racial crime in 2002.

Long time coming though it'll be a long time inside. Though I'm also sure there will be an appeal in the next few weeks/months.

Thinking about it some more it’s so sickening. In most murder cases you can possibly begin to understand how it may have happened – a crime of passion, a dispute between people who knew each other that escalated, even a brawl that spiraled out of control etc. But to kill someone just because they happened to walk past you at the wrong time and be the ‘wrong’ colour. It’s just impossible to rationalise.

Yes, it was not allowed to be made known to the court and more importantly the jury as it may, effect the jury's and courts judgement.

Personally I think it's quite pertinent that someone with a relevant history of a crime to what they are being charged/accused with, should be taken into account during any trials.

It’s a tricky one really. I can see why a jury should base a decision purely on the evidence they hear in the courtroom. However, had they come to a not guilty decision and then this information had come to light I’m sure naturally that a few of the jury members may have wanted to change their minds.

Absolutely delighted about this verdict, however a few things can still happen, the DNA evidence was compelling but I sadly think an appeal barrister will be all over this like a rash, and might use the premise that it may have been contaminated still even if the percentage is low to minute to question this verdict. I hope not but the chance is there.

Also just heard the police have 9 names on their list and the case is still open so lets hope they may have some more in the dock this year.

Of course if a couple of old lags can deliver some prison punishment of their own in the near future then job done!

I didn't see him but the Mail did well on this issue. They headlined them as murderers all those years ago despite them getting off with it and asked them to sue them, they never did.

This won't be the end of it IMO. I reckon they could still get off with it on an appeal as the evidence was weak and they'll claim an unfair trial, I also reckon the judge indicated so in his summing up but Im glad the jury reached the decision they did as I have no doubt the did it.

These will get a big minimum term for this, there lives are as good as over.
