Quality.

Thanks very much. It arrived from Japan yesterday within five days of posting and somehow avoided import VAT and customs duties which was an unexpected bonus.

Here's where my collection is up to so far.

Been looking to add an electronic tuning fork movement watch to my collection of Omegas for a while, and this one appealed to me at a reasonable price, so I took the plunge. Might have to sell something to make way for it though.

You'd need to see the case number as well to check the movement is in the right case. Not sure on the exact movement, but it looks similar to the 30T2 in my 1940s military watch. The serial number dates to 1935-39, probably 1937 or 1938 given it begins 87xxxxxx. What does the front of the watch look like?

Looks in good nick given the age. Serial number is somewhere between 1935 and 1939.

I think the movement is a 30T1. That began production in the late 1930s and had 15 jewels, and would explain why it looks so similar to my 30T2.

So the regulator lever being so far out of the range wouldn't of bothered you?

It looks a lovely old watch. 26.5 cal movement but I was a bit nervous about it.

Probably worth a punt at the 100 quid it finished at tho.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/182053673337

I asked the seller if it actually worked even though he listed it as working because I found this from a couple of years ago which was selling it as spares or repairs

http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/1935-omega-stainless-handwind-520967025

And to me that reg lever didn't look right and the seller didn't know why it was out so far. Tells me that the spring is duff.

Shouldn't be an expensive repair though, I wouldn't have thought? Have you got the watch yet or are you awaiting delivery?

Assuming it was running, a service should have been enough to sort it, so about another £60-70 on top of the price and someone will have a nice watch.

I've got to be honest, many of these watches leave me a bit cold....

It's not them, it me (!) I'm quite fussy :)

But I do lust after the Submariner and The Monaco.....

Sadly, I've have just googled the cost of a submariner....

I'm finding myself more and more attracted to German watches at the moment.

There seems to be more value in comparison to the "Swiss Made" brands which certainly seem to come at a premium which at times isn't justified.

I'm currently very attracted to the Sinn 556a, Damasko DA36 and Junghans Max Bill Chronoscope. I'm more of a leather strap guy so diver style watches aren't for me.

If I had a bigger budget (and a bigger wrist), this new Zenith Pilot watch would be on my list:

But I am planning to save up for this Junghans Meister Driver which is set to be released in September. I'm a fan of the cream strap version.

Love this!

Also a big fan of this one....

Aye, it's nice that one too! I quite fancy a slate grey dial watch as I don't have anything like it in my collection.

Hope nobody minds me spewing out my wishlist but here's another that caught my eye recently, the Tissot 1936 Heritage. Only negative again is the size. It's a gigantic 45mm. If they made a sub-40mm version I'd be all over it.

A cheaper dress watch option for those looking for a nice silver watch which is Swiss made and has an exposed case-back which shows a nicely decorated rotor on the ETA movement.

The Hamilton Intra-Matic:

Also available with a black face but you lose the beautiful sunburst effect of the silver version.

I've seen these around for about £350 which looks like a good deal to me.

Serial dates it to 1973. It's pretty mint for a 43 year old watch.

Jeweller? I worked as one for a few years when I was younger and watches were my forte. Not quite on the same level of some of the watches I see in this thread though lol Got made redundent and swiped the small blue tool to clip the back off, the tri grip device for getting the twist backs off and also the clamp and cushions for securing them back on  :) Some very classy pieces on this last page alone. Always comment on someones watch when I spot a nice one.

It's a fashion watch so you're essentially paying for a Fossil watch but with a Tommy Hilfiger dial on it.

How much are you paying for it if you don't mind me asking? Might be able to recommend something as an alternative.

Got 2 more watches on the way a Christopher Ward C65 I got half price in their recent sale, and a Hamilton Pilot that is apparently mint second hand and something I have been after for a while, again at a very good price.

Hmmm, maybe have a look at some of the Seiko 5 models and see if any of them appeal. They've got a great heritage and in-house movements.

Buy the Tommy Hilfiger one if you're not particularly bothered about that though, it'll probably last you a few years without issue.

Nice. From what I read, Christopher Ward seem to aggressively price their watches and they're regularly on sale at half price - you've made a good decision to get it when it was on offer!

Like the look of the Hamilton - how big is it? I've been looking at flieger/pilot watches myself. Think I've settled on this for my next purchase though, the Mühle Glashütte 29er:

Thanks, I found out about CW watches from another forum I used to post on. Until fairly recently sales were hard to come by, however they have become more frequent but have to get in quick as they sell out quickly. They are very well made watches.

The Hamilton is a H64715535 automatic, the brown/dark red strap looks great. It does wear a bit big at around 46mm but it's a lovely watch.
I got a little lucky as I didn't want to pay the full RRP and having missed out on another on 'the bay' I managed to negotiate a price with another one that appeared on there from a UK seller recently.
It's barely been worn.

Smart that. Got a touch of bauhaus about it - definite cues from Nomos and Stowa. If you're happy with the quartz movement then why not give it a go! It's right up my street in terms of style.

Spot on. 46mm would drown my wrist (6.75 inches), I'm jealous of anyone who can pull off a big watch like that!

I think I'm going to go for a 40mm Tisell no logo flieger once he has them back in stock. A fella in Korea assembles them - they've got a miyota movement and thermal blued hands. Reviews seem to suggest that they're great bang for your buck.
