Aberlour is fantastic if anyone gets the chance, try one.

I was given a bottle of Aberlour A'bunadh for Christmas and I just opened it on my birthday last week.  Very nice!  Smooth and very flavorful.  Here's a description from the Aberlour website:

Aberlour a'bunadh is a natural single cask strength malt whisky. Taken directly from specially selected sherry casks it is bottled as simply as possible without the use of modern filtering methods or the addition of water.

A 19th-century-style whisky matured exclusively in Spanish oak Oloroso sherry butts, then bottled at cask strength. Dark, luxurious and powerful; a superb after-dinner malt.

Colour
Deep, rich amber.

Nose
An intoxicating aroma of mixed spices, praline and spiced orange, harmonising with rich, deep notes of Oloroso sherry.

Taste
Orange, black cherries, dried fruit and ginger, spiked with dark bitter chocolate and enriched with sherry and oak. Full-bodied and creamy.

Finish
Robust and intense, with bitter-sweet notes of exotic spices, dark chocolate and oak.

I usually drink 18 yr old Glen Livet.

There are so many good ones out there.  Will I ever have the time (or money) to experience them all?

As promised missus, I even put a nice piccie in the background for ya  :-*

Very many thanks.  That's a helluva collection.  Very impressive.  And very many thanks for the piccie.  A classic Scot and his classic lads with classic scotch.  An excellent touch.   :-*

usually Laphraoig but have just been bought a jamisons for my birthday and it is not bad, although i usually steer clear of Irish whisky,    given I am Irish that is strange but i do like a scottish single malt  :P

Not too fond of The Bowmore mate.  Slightly soapy aftertaste.

Ive not got to the soapy bit yet, I just see it as a mild Laphroig.  I've now come to the conclusion I don't like peaty whisky, it's far too medicinal for me.

Can only do peaty at the end of an evening, as it kills the taste buds for anything more subtle.

Please excuse a dastardly non Scotch interloper into the thread but has anyone tried Elmer T. Lee bourbon?

I was out for a meal at Room with the missus and her mate last night and they were doing the after dinner cocktails thing while I, after one Whisky Sour (they used too much sour and not enough whisky  ;) ) was sticking to large Maker's Marks. Anyway, after several of these the barman gave me a free snifter of the above mentioned Elmer T to taste and I have to say it was rather splendid.  Vanilla and honey.

Please don't let Bowmore put you off.  I don't like it at all.  And its a pale shadow of the proper peaty stuff.  Doesn't hit the spot as proper peat will do.

Now you drink Talisker (or Tomatin if you will), and it is deep and mellow.  Rather like snuggling down in deep sheepskin rugs in front of a log fire, on an Autumn evening.  Relaxing all your limbs and stretching out your toes to catch the warmth of the fire.
Rather a day as a lion than a lifetime as a sheep.

Just poured myself a 1 inch measure of Laphroaig to prepare myself for MOTD2, as I still haven't seen the 'penalty' incident since I got back from the match. I expect to get pretty angry, so I thought a touch of whisky would soften the edges.

No wonder, the sheer quantity of acid and heavy metals that goes to make up that bloody drop, would have you shouting at the tv, pen or no pen!

Tried the Bruichladdich Celtic Nations over the weekend. It's a blend of the 10Y Laddie and a non-mentioned Irish single malt. Quite good I think. Also tried the Bruichladdich 3D - 2nd edition. A peaty one, but a VERY nice dram if you really like the smoky and peaty stuff!!  ;D
