Why are United playing a midget in defense?

Why not? They have a bloke with a balloon for a head in there too

When they're on form, Brighton are a really enjoyable team to watch. Graham Potter is an outstanding coach.

It's going to take a lot of time and a lot of money for Ten Hag to turn United around, if he's even up to the job.

My fear is they might want to swap.

Yeah Martinez maybe works in a back 3 in this league, or as a tucked in full back. In a back 2 in a high line in premier League gonna be brutal for him.

Even if you're better than Xavi with the ball at your feet it's a fundamental weakness, especially for a PL defender, if you haven't got either height or pace. Sami Hyypa for example was slow but he was totally dominant in the air and usually defended a deep line.

Just the pace part alone is a big problem. It was the biggest reason why Rafa struggled so much to win those games against lower sides at Anfield and had horrific spells on the road sometimes, that Carragher and Hyypiä (in his 30s) required to play a submarine line.

Not even great with the ball at his feet to be honest and all of his defensive work looks frantic and last ditch rather than giving the appearance that he is controlling the space around him and aware of his opponents.

The Athletic now saying United have bid for Marko Arnautovic, bid made of €8m. :lmao

You'll be surprised to hear Ten Hag worked with him at Twente. Be interesting to see who the agent is on some of these deals, someone must be getting a backhander

Argentine defenders for you. Why are they always slow and cumbersome (at least in recent times)?

Caicedo is bullying Eriksen, just shoving him aside every time.

Just such a dumb move on his part, did ever so well to get back to a good level at Brentford and then gone somewhere that he was always going to be horribly exposed.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Eriksen may well have a limited health window in which he's cleared to play so he needs to maximize the revenue. No doubt they monitor his heart all the time and the slightest issue the doctors will tell him he can't do this anymore.

Eriksen has always been a luxury player and they have only just got shut of one in Pogba. Brentford built the team around him, he's just another cog at United and got to fit in around Fernandes etc. His quality will show at times but can't see him having a big impact there.

I didn't see anything of United in pre-season was there any game when they played a false 9? If this is the first time he's done it beggars belief.

He's been finished for the last 2 years to be honest.. Its a hilarious signing as he's exactly the type of player they didn't need.

Ayala, now there was a defender that could control space.  But you're right, Argentina's stocks have plummeted in the quality defender department.  Perhaps it's the Messi effect and every Argentine child wants to play forward so all the rubbish athletes end up playing in defence?

Ten Hag should just give Lindelöf and Varane a few games together and see what happens without a slow midget and Harry Maguire at the back. Now he's got something on the pitch that looks doomed from the get-go.
