You must live in a parallel universe, and a very unhappy one at that.

Five Euro games, five wins - compare that with last year.Ngog looks as though he will beat last years scoring tally by the end of September, and lucas scores a cracker when he is played in position. Not bad for 11 behind the ball!

Xerxes, I like your posts but this 'comparison when it suits' agenda you have is fucking ridiculous. We are playing in the Europa League against 2nd rate opposition whether you like it or not.
Simple facts are we have won 6 games this season that I would expect us to win, only the Trabzonspor away game standing out. We have played 3 decent/good/ very good sides in the prem and have been 2nd best in them all, and that's putting it kindly.
 A bit of perspective please.

Oh for fucks sake people, grow up a bit. Some of you sound disappointed that we won 4-1.

First half wasn't great everyone in the side did some good and some bad. Fucks sake it was a makeshift side that's been thrown together and given the circumstances we did fine. I love the direspect to Steaua on here as well, the way some of you go on with should have won 16-0 whilst playing the under 12's, because we're that good and they're that shit. Good goal from Cole and a good goal from them. 1-1 was fair at half time.

Second half was a lot better, we looked more composed, we started playing more like a team, N'Gog slotted away the peno brilliantly, then after some confusion Lucas came on and we were instantly, and i mean within 10 seconds, far, far better. Excellent positionally and slotted in a cracking goal and N'Gog finished the game with a good finish for 4-1.

I think some of you seem to think that the second some of these players step onto the pitch they should be playing like they've spent 5 years in the same first team together and know each others movements telepathically. Yes some things didn't work. I'm certainly not convinced by Cole in behind the striker, not by a long shot, and i was slightly miffed that it took him half an hour to stop doing stupid tricks and start actually playing. Meireles was pretty anonymous in the first half, grew into the second as he got to grips with his team mates and started moving it about. Maxi looked a lot better, kelly was solid, Konchesky was alright, agger and Soto had their moments, but were alright, Babel did some things well and some things not so well.

You've got to remember that some of these are reserves, fringe players and new players. You can't expect free flowing, all crushing football off the bat. What you can be, is fucking pleased at beating Steaua 4-1 at home and going away happy.

Cheer up you lot.

Our movement amoung our front four was very very good, and once Raul bedded in after halftime we started to see how improtant Maxi can be to our game.Cole and Maxi moved really well together and Raul and Lucas when he came on added to that.we can squeeze up and play football,we do have players that can do it.
Strangely our movement is better without Gerrard whether he plays up front or in the middle.Other players begin to take the game by the scruff. Some peole are calling that team our second string but i would have Soto and agger before Carra and martin and i would have Kelly ahead of johnson at the moment.Lucas and Raul in midfield and Cole left Maxi right and Pacheco in the middle.Wheres gerrard i hear you say,i don't know. Can he adjust to the movement of the others?Of course he can,but maybe if he was dropped for a game or two he might begin to realise that these players can do it themselves.Maybe then the team will become a team again.

That's fair Jaff, but at the same time, some perspective for tonight as well. This wasn't a prem side we put out. I've no probs whinging about our prem performances, they've been fucking dire, but the lads tonight did what they had to and put 4 goals past the opposition. Let's not drag them down because of the prem teams performance?

Ach, Xabi. Will always miss him. Anyway, positive performance today. The second half was actually fun to watch! It was great to see how many youngsters were on the pitch at the final whistle. Cole looks busy and productive, N'Gog continuing to progress at a good rate. Great finish at the end and the penalty was put away very coolly. Nice to see Lucas score. That one really had some pace on it.

Spearing was MOTM by a country mile.

I just can't agree with that.. Meireles was head and shoulders above Spearing...

Thought Cole and N'gog were our best performers.

Thought Spearing was solid throughout the whole game, first half included whereas Meireles clearly wasn't.

No we shouldn't, we'd have had to have finished in at least 4th last season and gotten through some qualifiers to be competing in the CL, we didn't. If you don't like that we're not in the CL, don't come in here spouting bollocks like this, it would be far more productive if you just didn't say anything at all.

Yeah it is a very good start to this Europa league campaign for us.

Just looking at some of the other results this one stood out for me

Juventus 3-3 Lech Poznan

There'd be meltdown if that was us.

No we shouldnt,we`ve been run like a top half of the table side and thats what we are.

On tonight...poor first half but considering it was an eleven with lots of changes half expected it. Konchesky was poor tonight and if he plays like that on Sunday we could be in trouble..saying that..they didnt have many clear chances so cant really slate the defense. In fairness by the end of the match we were cruising and looked a good team, Spearing impressed, Raul grew minute by minute, Lucas smashed in a belter, Ngog added to his ever growing goals tally,Maxi ran the game 2nd half.....it wasnt a bad night all in all.

No we shouldn't, we weren't good enough.

I wish we were at the stage where CL qualification was assured, but we obviously aren't.  The players tonight did a fantastic job I think against a not bad side.

Lets just cheer them on, be grateful they did well and hope that the confidence gained tonight will continue to rub off onto the rest of the players.

Babel looked like a different player! Played well i thought

agree, today he had all the effort but nothing was really coming off, everybody has those days and the ryan babel of old would have shrunk out of the game and showed no real hustle..today he was still full of energy and endevour right up until he was taken off...hope he gets a chance on sunday, desearves it in my opinion.

also, we got a quality back-up striker on our team, who knew? NGOG!
