James Pearce saying both Jota and Tsimikas will be out for "up to two months"

"The gut-wrenching news that Diogo Jota and Kostas Tsimikas are facing up to two months out following knee injuries suffered in the midweek dead rubber against Midtjylland..."

Tidbit from James Pearce earlier today regarding Thiago from a comment in an article from The Athletic;

"Issue has been that when Thiago has been close to coming back it’s flared up again."

Positive news:

Thiago stepping closer but has a few tests before team training, inside jokes at the club about signing him in January ;D

Milner and Shaqiri expected in team training next week.

Any word on how Gomez is recovering?

Last time I heard he was staying with his family down south for the first part of the recovery.

Liverpool will await further diagnosis on the adductor issue Joel Matip sustained during Sunday's 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

The centre-back was forced from the field on the hour mark at Anfield after pulling up. The injury will now be assessed by the club’s medical team.

Jürgen Klopp told his post-match press conference: “Joel told me he felt something in his adductor and that’s obviously not too good.

“I am not sure how serious it is now, but it was serious enough that he had to leave the pitch. The rest of the information I will get tomorrow.”

Elsewhere, the Reds were without Naby Keita for the fixture and Klopp expects the midfielder to also miss Wednesday’s trip to Newcastle United.

“He felt a muscle again,” the manager said of the No.8’s absence. “I don’t know exactly how long [it will be], but he was not ready for today and not for Wednesday, I think. We will see.”

Liverpool have appointed Andreas Schlumberger to the newly created role of head of recovery and performance. He previously worked with Klopp at Dortmund.
New role acts as a bridge between two departments at the club, performance (Andreas Kornmayer) and medical/rehab (Jim Moxon/Lee Nobes) with a focus on on-pitch recovery.

I wonder if the current state of our team with all the muscle injuries and players coming (what feels like) slowly back has anything to do with the recent changes to our fitness and rehabilitation personnel? I recall that there were major changes in the summer, but no details. Could someone shed light on that?

EDIT: Article on TIA about that:
https://www.thisisanfield.com/2020/12/liverpool-confirm-arrival-in-key-new-staff-role-reuniting-klopp-with-former-colleague/

(I didn't mean to invite chat at all, Roy, but I believe that the changes in these positions are important and will resonate throughout the rest of the season.)

Andy Massey left as Head of Medical services in the summer with Jim Moxon being promoted from within, Chris Morgan was then brought back in as Physio with a few others leaving I think. I don't know what other changes were made but I doubt much has changed procedure wise with Jim Moxon working at the club before Andy left. The players coming back slowly is just the natural history of how their injuries have been progressing rather than anything else.

When is Jota back??

It was 6-8 weeks (I think) from 9th Dec so taking that exactly it'd be any time 20th Jan to 3rd Feb.

Put something together from Transfermarkt stats to highlight how often are players are available to play versus how often they get injured.

No surprises to see Matip, Naby, Ox and Joe Gomez at the bottom of this list and unavailable for at least a third of a season.

Naby clearly picks up a lot of niggly injuries, whilst Gomez injuries tend to be more severe. Matip and Ox are regularly injured, missing a significant number of games each time they are out.

Gini and Robbo are our iron men.

Stats are for appearances/injuries at LFC only with the exception of Kabak and Davies where I took stats from Schalke and Preston respectively.

Players in grey have less than 50 appearances so their sample size didn’t feel large enough.

Liverpool will need to check on the latest condition of James Milner (hamstring) and Fabinho (muscle), but both players were absent from the team training session that preceded their flight to Budapest.

Ben Davies, Divock Origi and Caoimhin Kelleher did participate in the workout, however, having missed Saturday's fixture at Leicester City with respective knocks.

Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip remain, of course, long-term absentees, while Diogo Jota is not yet ready to restart team training.

Is that official on Davies?  Thought he was back in contention, but I guess not.

Apologies, my mistake.

Ben Davies, a deadline day signing from Preston North End for an initial fee of £500,000, was available for Sunday’s game but didn’t even make the bench. He has yet to make his debut as he battles to prove to Klopp he’s ready.

I had a look through his pre and post game comments and couldn’t see anything.

The way he implied it in his press conference there were players with knocks with which they would have to take a last minute decision with. With the number of games we have coming up I suspect he not going to take chances with certain people, depending on the circumstances.

That's the thing that amazes me about people's reactions. I understand completely that people are disappointed with the season but when you look at the fact that will still have an outside chance, I think that says a lot for the squad in what has been a seriously challenging season. When you consider the factors we've had to overcome during the season that makes me optimistic for the future.

Klopp on the injuries: “With Millie, it’s not a big thing but I expect him back maybe next week or something like that. With Ozan, we don’t know exactly, we have to wait and see a little bit. It’s a muscle thing, it happened without any real intensity but still serious enough for not being involved. The same for Ben Davies.”
