Animal welfare
« on: January 29, 2023, 12:19:28 pm »
We've just experienced a very sad and distressing 24hrs culminating in the local vets needing to euthenize a pregnant ewe.

How can local people, not even the farmers themselves not know who farms which land or livestock?

I always thought sheep were sprayed with a colour or letter to indicate which farm they are from

Nah that's normally to do with mating / number of lambs.

The vet's taken the tag off its ear and said they should be able to trace the owner from DEFRA records.  Doesn't help when it's a weekend and nobody's in the practice to check though.

I'm going to speak to the estate manager tomorrow to try and get some contact details in case of any future issues.

It is mate.

He did check to see if she was anywhere near lambing before putting her to sleep as they could have done an emergency c section and at least saved the lambs but she still had too long to go.
