Team(non Liverpool) you most admire
« on: January 20, 2024, 09:23:09 pm »
What team do you most admire, by that I mean a group of players over a club in general.

For Example Milan 1988-90 or the Celtic Lisbon Lions.
They are only great because we are on our knees......let us arise!

Borussia Dortmund’s teams between 2009-2013 under Jürgen!
The football was a breath of fresh air, utterly intense, and honest. Just a group of young players with little cynicism playing the most fun football imaginable. Hummels, Kuba, Subotic, Schmelzer, Großkreutz, Piszczek, Sahin, Götze, Kagawa, Lewandowski, Barrios, Gundogan, Reus.... Fantastic.

As Terry mentioned Brazil '70, Peter's '82 Brazil also a good shout, and to be fair the '02 Brazil (though weren't fancied to begin with) had some amazing set of players there.

Capello's Milan side when they destroyed Barcelona in 94 CL final.

And the 95 and 96 Ajax side of Aloysius Paulus Maria "Louis" van Gaal.

Milan with the art of defending, when they won the Scudetto that season they conceded 15 goals,

Milan just ripped up that defensive style in that final, the words by Cruyff and Barcelona calling them anti Football etc in the build up for weeks that made Capello take the reins off.

That Ajax side was ridiculous, average age must have been early 20's.

Milan early to mid-2000s

A special mention to Levante in 2011. I'd recommend reading this if you have 5 mins:

Quote
A year ago almost to the day Levante's coach, Luis García, announced that beating Real Madrid would be "like kissing Miss World". Back then, Levante didn't beat Madrid but the striker Rafa Jordá announced that drawing with them wasn't bad either: "like chewing the face off your girlfriend". This time, Levante did beat them. In September 2010 it finished 0-0; in September 2011 it finished 1-0. In the week that Cristiano Ronaldo said people had it in for him because he is "handsome, rich and good at football", Madrid were defeated by a team that, as the banner at the Ciutat de Valencia stadium put it, are "ugly, poor and bad at football".

AC Milan. Liked them since the late '80s, early '90s. Just loved the way they played back then. It wasn't a typical Italian style of football at all. I've had a soft spot for them ever since. Also, their fans were great in both the 2005 & 2007 finals as well.
