There is a huge B&W picture which is very similar to the one posted here in the Cornmarket pub off Fenwick St.
I was on the Bulwark at the time it was in Liverpool on a 5 day families visit. I was wondering were I could get a copy of the photograph.

The chimneys are the key, supposed to be a view to the south but might disagree having lived in the area.
Clue: pic is between the wars

I'm guessing that those chimneys in the background are two of the old Clarence Dock Power Station ones, though I'm not too sure as I thought it had three.

I don't think it's LOHR, the track and Station buildings look wrong, so it's possibly on the Southport electric line especially with what looks like an LMS EMU in the distance, but I really just don't recognise it at all.

I first thought it might be the very old Sandhills but the only old photo's I've seen of that have wooden platforms as below from Flikr....

Could it be Marsh Lane before it was flattened during the Blitz (and now Bootle New Strand)? I've never seen a decent photo of that.

So I'm stumped, though no doubt will kick myself when you tell me the answer.

In the meantime, here's a photo for Keith for one of his before and afters from Streets if he's not done it yet.... it's post LOHR demolition.

A Pug and tarp'd wagons (complete with chimney spark arrestor as well...interesting detail for any modeller) being led along the old docks line that ran under the LOHR by a guard with flag. Easy location to identify.

I love photos like that gulley mate, technology has accelerated so much but that illustrates how advanced engineering was nearly a hundred years ago.

Start kicking Gulley it's Tuebrook  :)
Have walked Green Lane loads of times cannot figure out how Lister Drive would be south of the spot on West Derby Road by the bridge where I presume the station would have been., Newsham Park gets in the way.
Only seeing 2 Of the 4 chimneys would have thrown me off too.

In between kicks, I'm seeing it now. :) It's one of those locations that annoyingly just seems to hide in plain sight until you're told where it is.

The station photo is looking in Edge Hill direction, Newsham being over to the right in the distance though not visible.

Tuebrook platforms were on the Anfield/Walton/Clubmoor direction side of the West Derby road bridge carrying the railway, you can just make out between the tracks the bowed strengthening girder of it.

The Power station photo is great. I remember my Dad sometimes taking me to Newsham in the summer when I was tiny, late 50's early 60's, it was free and got us out of the house, and after us having a look at the model boats on the model boat lake, he'd sometimes take me over to look over the wall to watch the shunting of the coal wagons there.

It was all very impressive when you were little, and a busy and industrious scene back then. I think there was some tragic story about a worker or workers being killed when those cooling towers got built but that's probably true of most buildings before improved H&S considerations. Anyway, it's taken looking towards the north from Edge Lane direction so that's Lister Drive running from left to right above it, 3/4 the way up the photo.

The main railway line is just visible in the top left hand, running under the bridge carrying Lister Drive over into Newsham to the left so Tuebrook Station would be along there beyond the top part of the photo just past West Derby road.

That empty field behind the Apostles in that photo is now partially allotments.

M&S started off in Leeds back end of the 19th century. Their first excursion into the North-West was when they opened two stalls on Birkenhead market.

See below - a real rags to riches story.

Johnno mate do you remember people not being allowed into Arabic countries if they were wearing St Michael clothing ( I think it was St Michael underpants too) although I can't think how they would check that.

Vic, I remember some rumour at school about that, probably around the time of the '67 war.
No idea if it was really true,  but I suppose it's not beyond the realms of possibility in some places with overzealous border guards if they wanted to make life difficult for someone.
I remember when I went out to Kuwait in '81 being given a list of things that were not recommended to take in there, but I don't remember M&S underpants being on it. ;D

So then Gulley, was THAT the reason you never wore any then .  .  . ::) ::) ::)
There is nothing wrong with striving to win, so long as you don't set the prize above the game. There can be no dishonour in defeat nor any conceit in victory. I'm sure I've posted this before but it's always worth a second look.  It's Liverpool filmed in 1896 by the French Lumiere Brothers.  It includes the world's first tracking shot from the LOR.

Yes. Used to sometimes get on one when I first started school back in 1960. (Scholar ticket, -/1d I think though it might have been only a halfpenny)
It always caused a bit of excitement when one occasionally used to turn up instead of the more usual green ones.
We called them Coronations as I think they were commissioned to celebrate the Coronation.
I do remember they had deluxe upholstery, or a least a bit better the the normal.
