He'll lodge an appeal first thing Monday morning with him probably scheduled to play PM. The judge will defer a decision until after the tournament which means he'll get to play and probably win.

Knowing the ScoMo and his team this was done late to make it look like they made the 'tough' call and it was the courts that allowed him to stay. Politics at its best with the election a few months away.

As things stand now, border security are compelled to find him wherever he is right now and put him into an immigration detention centre. He's also up for a 3 year ban.

If he was smart he'd go ASAP and make Australia look like the bastards. Stay, win the tournament and then lose the case would make him look selfish and probably mean the title would be taken off him as he wasn't legally qualified to be participant.

Isn't the timing more of a standard thing for people the government is usually trying to deport ?(those seeking asylum, refugees, migrants)

Same concept, giving the orders just before a weekend to stymie any last minute legal efforts to remain - albeit on a vastly unequal scale (most people can't summon the legal and financial resources that he can)

Two things strike me from this rather sordid affair:

JokeyVic is (and always has been) a bit of a narcissist and a law unto himself. His type is not for me and I don't get much pleasure from his performances, but he has been rather successful in his profession to be fair.

Australia has the same level of politician as we have in the UK; i.e. useless tw@ts playing to the lowest common denominator in their electorate. The top guy would give BoJo a run for his money in the lack of self-awareness and boorishness stakes. And he takes instruction from the Murdochs...enough said.

Whole affair ought to have been sorted long before the guy arrived in the country but that wouldn't do much for the politicians in election year. Nice big media circus suits them much better. The tennis ball hitter should now tell the Aussies he won't be back and let them get on with it. Compare and contrast the outrage of their public with the state sponsored process of sneaking in some English cricketers whilst ensuring they were undercooked in preparation time so that their good ole boys can give them a spanking in front of thousands of maskless locals.

The tournament shouldn’t be a factor. If the person was a businessman entering Australia illegally, shoild the minister have looked at his business diary before deciding when to cancel his visa?
