Didn't watch all of it (the missus wanted to watch Bake Off so thought this was a good sacrificial lamb to avoid moaning about football for the next month) but what the fuck was that twat doing hacking Curtis from behind? After what happened with Harvey you'd think a fellow professional would have a little more common sense and respect.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

As a bit of an aside, in theory this such an easy competition to win. I understand playing fairly weakened sides in the early rounds and that our focus is obviously elsewhere, but if you're Klopp at what point do you just go for it? A trophy is a trophy, a cup final is a cup final - particularly with fans back in the ground.

I think Norwich could really do with someone like Nat Phillips at the back as well.

The difficulty will be a two legged semi final that coincides with AFCON.

Are the semis two-legged again, are they, yeah? Gets tricky too if you happen to get someone like a City or Chelsea in the semis as opposed to the Final and then have big decisions to make regarding team selection - and that's assuming everyone's available.

The problem is always going to be the team down the M62 who have such a deep squad they can rest their entire first choice XI and still have a team worth about £400 million (well....cost).

Its rightly the lowest priority for us. If we get a bit lucky with draws, we maybe could win it. But that sort of draw unfortunately (tin hat....) seems exclusively saved for the aforementioned team down the M62. The other season we did well to get to the quarters and then had to play our kids away against Villa whilst United and City had Colchester and Oxford respectively. Flip that around and there's every chance we still could have got to a semi, which I'm sure we'd have taken seriously.

Honestly depends on the schedule but It very possible Klopp would ride with who got him there for those matches. The club including Klopp care much more about PL and CL winning it then either domestic cup(view it as a good way to bed some players in/giving young players a chance)

Probably never, this season anyway, our christmas is pretty brutal with Leeds, Leicester away, Chelsea away in about 7 days then the first leg of the semi is a few days after and we won't have Mane or Salah so it's gonna be tough to go for it unless we want players totally run in to the ground.

I’ve a feeling for us to get far in this we’d need Manchester City type cup draws all the way to the semi final. Next round I just know we’re booked in for Chelsea away.

If we can get home draws it's easier but going away to City or Chelsea and the strength of their squads makes it very difficult if we haven't got near enough our strongest side out, play them at Anfield and it's at least a leveller.

Spurs played Championship Brentford in the semi last year. If we could make the semi and get a draw like that we'd have a chance (given the players we'll be missing).

Hopefully can have a go at the FA Cup. 150 year anniversary of it.

Great to see the young lads get a run out, they performed well too!
Like Gordon's ball control, they all need a bit of bulking up but technically all look sound

Glad Taki and big div scored, another clean sheet too. Fun game

Yeah we're goign to be drawn against early 90s AC Milan away and city will get stockport under 6s [pep will play a full strength team].

Klopp is never going to pick a strong team in this unless we're in the final, so it's all on the draw really. Get a decent draw and we can progress, anything too tough and we'll go out. Been the same every year since he's been here bar the first couple [when we didn't have a much more important competition to think about].
3 midfielders minimum in the next window. And probably another young CB to boot.

Anything else is negligent.

Definitely get that. It's an interesting one because we all know it's never going to take precedence over the League or Champions League in Klopp's mind, but if we do find ourselves in a Final against, say, City or Chelsea you'd have to imagine we'd take it very seriously.

Even  if we were in the final. if we had a few players injured already and were in the CL and title race, he might still not play the strongest team available to him.

Last time we reached the semi in the League Cup we went out to Southampton. Crucially we lost Mane to the Afcon for that tie and he was our key player at the time (pre-Salah and Robbo/Trent) as we lacked pace without him.

We tend to struggle for form in January as well.

At one point Gordon, Morton, Jones, Minamino and Ox were all just all over the midfield. It seemed like a counter to Norwich playing it out to the wing backs and then through the central areas where they were getting a bit of joy at the end of the first half.
We already have shit in the country, and the game of Liverpool fills life with joy. Thanks

Yeah Kabak has just come to fitness, so started the last league game. Gibson isn't the problem anyway, it's Hanley starting every match they need to be concerned about. He is dreadful.

Great result and lots of positives to take from the game, especially for Origi and Taki who really need to find their feet. Both have now made decent starts to the season and hopefully we'll be able to use them both in the coming games.

Silly mistake by Bradley, really didn't need to jump in but these are the games to make those kind of mistakes in and learn from. Great save from Kelleher which makes it sweeter.

Hope Naby os ok though Morton looked Tidy.

Won't add to the hype around Gordon  but it'll be good to see him play another game next month.

After about 30 years without a decent, dependable, left back we now appear to have two of the best in the league.

Staunton or Tsimikas? I'd go with Tsimikas, but would anyone choose Staunton?

Staunton left (originally) 30 years ago for Villa tbf which dates it.

His second spell was more remembered for him playing in goal than anything he did at LB.

Staunton was very underrated, was surprised that the club let him go during his first spell.

We got Preston away in the next round. Good draw that.
