This seems to be a trend now. People burning down 5G towers.  This is modern day vanadalism!

Conspiracy theorists burn 5G towers claiming link to virus

Quote
LONDON (AP) — The CCTV footage from a Dutch business park shows a man in a black cap pouring the contents of a white container at the base of a cellular radio tower. Flames burst out as the man jogs back to his Toyota to flee into the evening.

It’s a scene that’s been repeated dozens of times in recent weeks in Europe, where conspiracy theories linking new 5G mobile networks and the coronavirus pandemic are fueling arson attacks on cell towers.

Popular beliefs and conspiracy theories that wireless communications pose a threat have long been around, but the global spread of the virus at the same time that countries were rolling out fifth generation wireless technology has seen some of those false narratives amplified.

Officials in Europe and the U.S. are watching the situation closely and pushing back, concerned that attacks will undermine vital telecommunications links at a time they’re most needed to deal with the pandemic.

“I’m absolutely outraged, absolutely disgusted, that people would be taking action against the very infrastructure that we need to respond to this health emergency,” Stephen Powis, medical director of the National Health Service in England, said in early April.

Some 50 fires targeting cell towers and other equipment have been reported in Britain this month, leading to three arrests. Telecom engineers have been abused on the job 80 times, according to trade group Mobile UK, making the U.K. the nucleus of the attacks. Photos and videos documenting the attacks are often overlaid with false commentary about COVID-19. Some 16 have been torched in the Netherlands, with attacks also reported in Ireland, Cyprus, and Belgium.

Is the option not them having it or the US having that same data? Who controls the 3G and 4G that we currently have? Genuine questions as I don’t know how it’s too different.

I believe Huawei have the best and cheapest 5G technology because they have spent £15bn on research.  That's a lot for others to catch up with and could take years. Also the gear is already being used by our telco's so if its banned it 's going to cost hundreds of millions for the telco's to rip it out and replace.

I think if they're banned we will be saddled with quite expensive phone bills and proper 5G coverage years away... which could have implications for the economy.

Where did it start? I hope its not people reading this thread HA.

I read that Facebook were deleting the groups that were popping up to destroy the towers.

Started with some video of loads of birds lying dead on the road close to where a 5G tower had been put up.

Doesn't surprise me. Everyone has a phone and is 'livestreaming' so it doesn't take much for something like that to go viral...

They will get banned from Facebook though from what I've read so they should think about it really or lose their account.

It's not necessarily a simple question, and different countries, with different economic circumstances and cultures will approach it differently.

But I suspect it will be hard for most Western governments to ultimately permit Huawei in their 5G networks, in practice.

Just going through the thread and saw your comment @Redcap

MI5/MI6/GCHQ have given assurances that Huawei isn't able to do anything nefarious on behalf of the CCP with regards to surveillance or secrets, etc. That was the advice given to Boris and that's why they got the go ahead. Though I suspect MPs are going to overturn it because of the virus and the way in their eyes the CCP has behaved .

Boris forced to reduce Huawei’s role in UK’s 5G networks

Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson has been forced to cave into to Conservative backbench rebels opposed to the presence of Huawei in 5G networks and has drawn up plans to reduce the Chinese company’s involvement to zero by 2023.

The prime minister’s retreat is designed to stave off what could have been an embarrassing defeat when his existing proposal to reduce Huawei to a 35% market share was to be voted on in the Commons.

Although Johnson boasts an 80 strong majority, the number of Conservative MPs willing to rebel on the issue is now estimated to be 50 – enough in theory to defeat the government – as anti-Chinese sentiment hardens in the light of the coronavirus crisis.

The mooted retreat will delight the White House which has been relentlessly campaigning against Huawei, but is likely to provoke a hostile reaction from Beijing, which has believed the UK was open to inward investment until now.

The original plan was signed off as recently as January with the support of Britain’s intelligence agencies. They argued that any risks that Huawei equipment could be exploited for mass surveillance could be contained.

But political concerns about the Chinese company lingered. The rebels forced a vote on an unrelated telecoms bill in early March, and 38 Conservative MPs voted with the opposition after Johnson refused to slash Huawei’s market share to zero.

At the time, that was not enough to defeat No 10 but sources close to the rebels said a growing number of the 2019 intake of MPs were ready to vote against the government, in a sign of escalating geo-political tension with China.

As the coronavirus crisis worsened, China has been accused of not being transparent about the early phases of the disease – while tension has also risen further as Beijing has recently threatened to impose a new national security law on Hong Kong.

Senior ministers also want to reduce the UK’s economic dependance on China for essential goods in the light of the crisis and have begun to draw up “Project Defend” aimed at boosting British self sufficiency in strategic medical and technological sectors – following warnings from intelligence agencies that the UK needed to reassess its relationship with China.

Downing Street declined to comment although sources said the reports of the Johnson plan were accurate. But last night one of the rebel leaders, Sir Iain Duncan Smith, welcome the change of heart. “This is very good news and I hope and believe it will be the start of a complete and thorough review of our dangerous dependency on China.”

Depressing that some people are so stupid

Andy, this will depress you even more ... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-52810220 although it's quite funny in a way.

The 5GBioShield was recommended by a member of Glastonbury Town Council's 5G Advisory Committee, which has called for an inquiry into 5G.

One of nine external members, Toby Hall, said: "We use this device and find it helpful," and provided a link to its website, which describes it as a USB key that "provides protection for your home and family, thanks to the wearable holographic nano-layer catalyser, which can be worn or placed near to a smartphone or any other electrical, radiation or EMF [electromagnetic field] emitting device".

"Through a process of quantum oscillation, the 5GBioShield USB key balances and re-harmonises the disturbing frequencies arising from the electric fog induced by devices, such as laptops, cordless phones, wi-fi, tablets, et cetera," it adds...

"Wearable holographic nano-layer catalyser"  and "Process of quantum oscillation"? ..yer wha?

Quite how we as a society have got to the position that people that believe in this sort of nonsense are being elected or put into any position of power or influence in an advisory committee is beyond me and is a sad reflection of the times we live in.

The funny bit is this...

Each of these USB keys costs £339.60 including VAT, though there is a special offer of three for £958.80.

But, at first sight, it seems to be just that - a USB key, with just 128MB of storage.

"So what's different between it and a virtually identical 'crystal' USB key available from various suppliers in Shenzhen, China, for around £5 per key?" asks Ken Munro, whose company, Pen Test Partners, specialises in taking apart consumer electronic products to spot security vulnerabilities.

And the answer appears to be a circular sticker.

"Now, we're not 5G quantum experts but said sticker looks remarkably like one available in sheets from stationery suppliers for less than a penny each," he says.

It would appear that here are suckers born every minute who will still believe in and will buy this sort of nonsense.

Though not quite as harmful, it's right up there in woo land with the scam of selling dowsing rods to use for landmine and IED detection.
I don't do polite so fuck yoursalf with your stupid accusations...

Right you fuckwit I will show you why you are talking out of your fat arse...

Anyone upgraded to this device?

Husband has the P20 Pro and is due an upgrade and wants the P40 Pro, but I have just seen the Google thing...

How are people finding it, anyone who has upgraded to that model?

Why would anyone in their right mind get any Android phone not supported by Google services? It's bonkers.

Fairly easy to put playstore, maps, Gmail on there, however I believe you'll still struggle with iplayer and Google pay. For that reason I'm out
