In my opinion, if they haven't been able to find this aircraft after 4 days they're definitely looking in the wrong place!

No !!!!!!!

I'm going with the Dragons breath.

In fact, I'm going to review the whole James Bond back catalogue for other likely scenarios.

Nah, fuck it, Drangons breath it is.......

Has there been 5 plane crashes caused by evaporated Dragons breath?

There has been 5 caused by "pilot incapacitation due to hypoxia" Surely that is rational?

I'm still predicting a catastrophic failure caused by faulty maintenance procedures - gross negligence by the national carrier. The subsequent search and rescue mission has all the hallmarks of poor management and implementation - gross incompetence by the national government. Malaysia is making a fool of itself while the families of the passengers suffer from their incompetence. Poor show.

Nothing strange about that in my view. We already know that at one point the plane "vanished" because all contact was lost. That's the moment you see in the video. Flight Tracker (and similar websites) relies on information coming directly from the planes in the air. So, if they stop sending out that information Flight Tracker will produce stuff like in the video (i.e. the altitude changing from 35.000 feet to 0 feet in about a second).

The main questions are, what caused the lack of communication and what happened after the plane vanished. That video does nothing in terms of answering those questions or even providing new information...

Add to that the fact that the Chinese government may have wanted to get some pretty high level attempted verification of the images and a better understanding of what they may be (if anything at all), the Chinese are very proud over such things and probably wouldn't have even released these images without a lot of attempted verification, procrastination and expert analysis.

More likely they were worried about how much the images would give away in regard to their satellites capability.

Engine Data Suggest Malaysia Flight Was Airborne Long After Radar Disappearance, U.S. Investigators Say

U.S. investigators suspect that Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 stayed in the air for about four hours past the time it reached its last confirmed location, according to two people familiar with the details, raising the possibility that the plane could have flown on for hundreds of additional miles under conditions that remain murky.

Aviation investigators and national security officials believe the plane flew for a total of five hours, based on data automatically downloaded and sent to the ground from the Boeing 777's engines as part of a routine maintenance and monitoring program.

A Malaysia Airlines official declined to comment. A Boeing executive who declined to be named would not comment except to say, "We've got to stand back from the front line of the information."

The engines' onboard monitoring system is provided by their manufacturer, Rolls-Royce, and it periodically sends bursts of data about engine health, operations and aircraft movements to facilities on the ground.

"We continue to monitor the situation and to offer Malaysia Airlines our support," a Rolls-Royce representative said Wednesday, declining further comment.

"The disappearance is officially now an accident and all information about this is strictly handled by investigators," said a Rolls-Royce executive who declined to be named, citing rules of the International Civil Aviation Organization, a United Nations agency.

As part of its maintenance agreements, Malaysia Airlines transmits its engine data live to Rolls-Royce for analysis. The system compiles data from inside the 777's two Trent 800 engines and transmits snapshots of performance, as well as the altitude and speed of the jet.

Those snippets are compiled and transmitted in 30-minute increments, said one person familiar with the system. According to Rolls-Royce's website, the data is processed automatically "so that subtle changes in condition from one flight to another can be detected."

The engine data is being analyzed to help determine the flight path of the plane after the transponders stopped working. The jet was originally headed for China, and its last verified position was half way across the Gulf of Thailand.

A total flight time of five hours after departing Kuala Lumpur means the Boeing 777 could have continued for an additional distance of about 2,200 nautical miles, reaching points as far as the Indian Ocean, the border of Pakistan or even the Arabian Sea, based on the jet's cruising speed. - wsj.com

I've pulled this off twitter, so I can't be sure how accurate the distance is, but it still gives you an idea:

The general PR/media from the authorities. They've released info, then backtracked, then said they don't know, then changed it again. Granted the interference from other countries throwing their two pence worth in hasn't helped the clarity of the situation either. Just think it's been a shoddy showing so far from the Malaysians authorities/airline as a collective and could of been kept more in house until something concrete was established.

I haven't followed it in detail because until there's anything concrete it's all just pointless speculation and I understand that the authorities are in a no-win situation.

I just heard on the radio that Vietnamese planes didn't find any wreckage in the location identified in the Chinese satellite images. Should they have kept the images secret until after the search? The fact that the Chinese didn't provide the photos immediately has already generated speculation. How would you have handled it?

One single point of contact providing verified information. The fact is that the Malaysian authorities are culpable for the speculation because they have been unable to get their civilian and military authorities to provide a united front. Both have provided briefings and press quotes that have supplied a confused and sometimes contradictory set of data, and have in turn been guilty of speculation and intimations of there being 'other information' that they were not prepared to share in public. Again, keep mouths shut until there is something to say, say it once with one voice, and say something that is meaningful and verifiable.

If you haven't followed it yourself, you're speculating about their 'no-win' situation. ;) ;D

'Breaking' News on CNN - http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/12/world/asia/malaysia-airlines-plane/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

So the Chinese say this was released by mistake and has nowt to do with the crash.  It gets stranger by the day.

I've seen CNN a few times and they're saying that it sent data for quite a long time and a long way west of where it was supposed to be, hours in fact. Somewhere in the Indian Ocean. Could it have landed somewhere?  :o

It now appears that the data reporting system and the transponder were shut down independently of each other about an hour apart - this would discount the theory that a catastrophic failure occurred and a deliberate act seems more logical.

This whole story/developments is/are fucked up.

People keep saying stuff, contradicting reports from officials and now the transponder turned off separately? Wouldn't that point to a hijack?
