This will happen more frequently in the future. As our Academy gets better and churns out more quality there will be some that don't make it with us but could go on to be a handy player. I reckon he'll turn into a solid premier league defender in the next few years if he keeps on going like he has and irons out some of those mistakes, kind of like when the Mancs got rid of Shawcross. Good luck to him wherever he goes.
Difference is that Utd inserted a clause that gives them first option should they ever sell Shawcross. Hope we do the same.

Just to conclude this, he has gone to Norwich.

Daniel Ayala has finalised his move to Norwich City, subject to the relevant paperwork being completed.

The defender leaves Liverpool after four years at Anfield, during which time he made five first-team appearances.

Great signing for Norwich, hope we've managed to put a couple of good clauses into this deal seeing as at least 3 clubs were chasing him.

£15m? It seems low, but what people have to remember is that the fee is irrelevant.

odd that we'd sell a center-back prospect when we're currently trying to sign a cb as well.  Ayala isn't ready for full duty in the prem yet but a loan would have made more sense.  he's shown potential, he's youthful, and he's spent a lot of time in the academy.  Don't really understand an outright sale right now

Norwich City defender Daniel Ayala has said former Canaries loanee Dani Pacheco convinced him to make the move to Carrow Road.

The Spanish pair played together at Liverpool until Ayala, 20, signed a four-year deal with Norwich last week.

"I spoke with him a few days ago before I signed here. He said really good things about this club and that's why I came here," he told BBC Radio Norfolk.

"I have to play first team football which is why I came to Norwich."

Despite his short time training with his new team-mates, Ayala has seen enough to believe the Canaries can retain their top flight status.

"I think it's a big challenge but Norwich have the quality to stay in the Premier League this season," he said.

"Every team you go to you have to fight for your place, so I'm happy to have competition.

"Hopefully I can get into the first 11 to face Stoke on Sunday."

Ayala was taken to Anfield four years ago by countryman and then Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez.

He was limited to five Reds appearances and last season had to take on loan moves to Hull and Derby to find first-team football.

"When Rafa left it was really difficult, that's why I went out on loan, to get some minutes," he added.

"And that's why I came here, to play first-team football.

"I was trying to play but maybe the manager didn't think I was ready or good enough, but I am confident and I need to prove everyone wrong."

Made his first start tonight in a pretty terrible 4-0 loss to Milton Keynes.

Bit from the match report

Spanish defender Daniel Ayala, making his first Carrow Road start since last week’s £850,000 move from Liverpool, was guilty of a real howler.
He sent his clearance straight to the feet of Stephen Gleeson, who wasted no time in putting Chadwick clear. Chadwick coolly slid the ball past stand-in keeper Declan Rudd for his third goal of the season.

Poor lad. Hope his confidence doesn't get dented too badly, and that he can bounce back soon. I thought he was at fault for Kenwyne Jones' late equalizer over the weekend too, when he came on as a sub. But he's a talented player, I'm sure he'll shrug it off and do quite well for them.

What a rotten start the lad has had with his new club. Out for two months injured.

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,,11709_7125447,00.html

Quote
Norwich City have been dealt an early-season injury blow with the news that new signing Daniel Ayala is already sidelined.

The 20-year-old defender only completed his move from Liverpoollast week, signing a four-year deal at Carrow Road.

Manager Paul Lambert had hoped the knee injury Ayala picked up during Tuesday night's game with MK Dons was not as bad as first feared.

But it has now been confirmed that the young Spaniard has been ruled out for two months.

Ayala was forced off late on during the Carling Cup defeat, which was his first start for the newly-promoted Premier League outfit.

Difference is that Utd inserted a clause that gives them first option should they ever sell Shawcross. Hope we do the same.
First option is meaningless, unless there is a guarantee to buy back at a certain price.

How does "first option" work if you are outbid? How does "first option" work if the player would rather go somewhere else.

It is far better to insert either a percentage sell on clause, performance/games related clause or a fixed buy back option so that if a player does become a Shawcross you can either buy back and keep (or sell on), or take compensation for losing the cheap buy back option.
"You just have to give them credit for not throwing in the towel" - Gennaro Gattuso, May, 2005

And then we'll get 4th as well and everyone in the whole world can do one.

Both started for Norwich.  Quite odd to see 2 ex-players (and ones that came through partially from the youth system) partnering each other for another team, can't have happened too often before.

I went to the game with my step dad! He played alright, got a lovely pass on him for a centre back! Only critiscm is a couple of times he let his man turn and run at him instead of putting pressure on early and making the tackle! Looks like he'll do well there based on yesterday!
