Slot wants a set piece coach. LFC LinkedIn page posted it.  ;D
Mr Slot, please please please Mr Slot. Please get me a throw-in coach. I'm fucking begging you. Please, when we are within 20 yards of the oppositions byline and we get a throw-in, train the fuckers to go on the offensive and not end up working the ball back to Ali.
The throw-in coach can tell the players they can't be blown for offside, s/he can tell them to turn the oppo fuckers around and make them work to get the ball rather than sitting back while we pass back.
Please Mr Slot, if you don't get one you're a wool.
I fucking beg you mate. I promise it will work.
FUCKING PLEASE!

Arne is coming in to do a job and for me it will take a season to see how he does that job. Winning trophies won’t be the sole measure of success or progress for me either. I’d like to see an obvious style of football by Christmas and a tightened defence. I sincerely hope he try’s to build around some of the youth in the team and uses their energy and hunger. He’s our man now and we’ll support and back him.

Welcome to Liverpool & Anfield Arne.

Welcome. Can't wait for his presser, if new managers still get those.

Not sure what to make of the whole 'he's accepted the title of head coach rather than manager' thing. Does it really mean anything or is it a technicality? Strange that it seemed like an important detail.

Looking forward to preseason now. I've enjoyed the Dutch influence on our style of play under Klopp and Lijnders. Slot seems like he might take our possession game to a higher level. It will be hard for him to match Klopp's pressing, though. Only Pep came close to Klopp in the PL and maybe across Europe. Close will be good enough with better structured possession.

Quite clearly to do with the nerds' view of the recruitment structure. I suppose it'll be a return to the coach saying he wants a player in this position, the nerds giving him a few shortlist options (and their own favourites), and then the coach having his pick and "final veto." Or maybe it'll be Edwards and co signing the players they want and Arne just doing as he's told. Time will tell.

Obviously our best success came from the former model; but with Klopp's success, he had more say in specific transfer policies (particularly the renegotiating of contracts and targeting Thiago, Darwin, etc.). Also the Club allowed a situation to materialize where the nerds left due to the above and more responsibility was delegated to Klopp, which likely contributed to a significant part of his "burnout" and leaving Liverpool.

Also interesting that Klopp said "head coach" first in his speech, then "corrected" himself to say "manager."

Its important for the media to make a point of it now so they can claim that it's causing friction inside the club at a later date.

In fairness, given the heights we are at, a first season of not going significantly backwards would be a decent achievement. And that's not a slight on Slott. Simply saying that 'staying still' would be comfortable top 4 a, trophy, and entering March with whispers of the quad.  Most clubs would rip your arm off for that.
"All the lads have been talking about is walking out in front of the Kop, with 40,000 singing 'You'll Never Walk Alone'," Collins told BBC Radio Solent. "All the money in the world couldn't buy that feeling," he added.

I would imagine (or at least hope) that it means nothing and it's like calling your janitor your "facility manager". It's why I don't get this obsession by the club to not call the manager the manager. Klopp was our manager, Slot is his successor, so he's the new manager. It's not that hard. Nobody knows how they'll have organised the work and devided the responisibilities behind closed doors just as nobody knew what Klopp's power behind the scenes even was. I don't care, if Slot is called our manager or our head coach, but he needs to be involved in transfers and help pick the right players. We've seen how important it is to get the right players for the team beyond just the data. We've also seen what a clusterfuck you get, when you sign players the manager doesn't want.

Having said that. Welcome Arne Slot, all the best and let's hope the three year contract is just the first of many more.

It is just a job title really isn't it, the role will be the same. Everyone in Europe is a Head coach or just coach, so its nothing more than having the same job titles as the rest. Jurgen called him head coach, then changed to manager, but he knows theres no difference.

I have one slight concern, and this would have applied to nearly any incoming manager. Its natural that Slot would bring several of his current backroom staff with him, I get that since they are also contributing to everything that made him successful so far. But really, are we saying the fitness/conditioning guy at Feyenoord is the best candidate for that particular role at one of the 5 biggest clubs in the world? I guess the counter-argument is that this particular fitness guy knows exactly the demands that Slot's style presents to players. And we can hardly say our own fitness department has been ripping up trees over the last season.

I'm not being negative, I am massively onboard with it all but its something that always makes me wonder about any managerial appointment.

It's a fair comment but most I've read about Feyenoord is they have exceptional availability of their players and personally I think that's an area off the field we could improve. Injuries have derailed so many of Klopps seasons, it bjorked this one as well.

I was playing at FC Groningen when my teammate Etiënne Reijnen told me: “I’ve been called by my former teammate Arne, who was asking about you; how you are as a player and person.” That was my introduction to Arne Slot. He was assistant at AZ and I was told he was a very good coach. Soon after, I moved there and got to know him as a very tactical and knowledgable coach, who took a genuine interest in you as a human being as well.

As an assistant he did the tactical team talks and analysis of training sessions and he was very detailed, providing solutions to game situations while working on it in training. He motivated me every day to become a better player, to have a bigger goal in mind and to work very hard for that. So I already had that bond with him when he became head coach at AZ after a year and a half.

Arne Slot at his final match in charge of Feyenoord.
Arne Slot’s long-shot romance hints at gamble worth taking for Liverpool
Read more

His debut season was incredible. We beat many top teams and Arne made a huge impression on everyone. He always mentioned what we did well but also what we needed to improve. He would show us videos about how we could solve things before putting on relevant training exercises. He would then analyse those sessions, give feedback and ask you to apply it in matches, which he would then analyse as well. It’s the power of repetition, and he would do that many times and in different ways. For example, he would show you different ways to build from the back or to go high up the pitch. He hones all this very well, making his philosophy trainable. He is exceptional at that.

When we played against a team who sat very deep, we would train on making high runs from deep, which he would sometimes accompany with videos from other teams. For example, he would show a clip from Liverpool-Chelsea in the 80th minute, where you could see 11 players defending but someone was still able to put a ball behind the defence. He showed you it was possible. He would show clips of Liverpool but also of Atlético Madrid, like how ruthless you have to be in a low block in a certain phase of the match. He looks at the development points of the team and based on that he looks for suitable footage.

I remember Arne showing a clip of Atlético in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, where their wingers had to help in defence but one of them still scored the opening goal. Those things can be really stimulating, because you see what kind of defensive work an Atlético winger is doing while getting on the scoresheet. Those are small details Arne is very good at.

He also knows how to motivate players. He used examples from other sports such as running, kickboxing and cycling. I remember when we got eliminated from the Europa League by Lask Linz, then had to play Ajax away. Arne said we had to persevere, just like the next bend or next sprint for a cyclist. We beat Ajax 2-0 and were joint first with them when coronavirus hit. We couldn’t finish the season but I’m convinced we would have won the league because we had an easier run-in.

We both left AZ that year but were reunited at Feyenoord in 2022. By then his analysis was even better and we won the Dutch title, the first for Feyenoord in six years. He is so good on the details. That’s one reason why I think he will do well at Liverpool; another is that he is a very honest manager.

Everyone knows their place because he is transparent. To motivate the starting XI is not so difficult but he is really good with players 12 to 25 in the squad. You have many different characters in a team and he always knows how to trigger guys. He is up for a joke here and there too, and brings a certain relaxation into the squad, but he can translate it into a performance-oriented mindset.

Arne is a really nice person off the field, which was highlighted to me last season. On the day we played Ajax in the Dutch Cup semi-final, my wife was about to give birth. I was in doubt whether to be with her or stay with the team but Arne convinced me to put family first and luckily I was on time for the birth of my child. In the end I still played the match as well.

I noticed how Arne also helped players who had off-field issues and managed that well, giving them the right amount of freedom. On the pitch, he knows when to give compliments, when to put an arm around a shoulder. I really believe he can inspire the guys at Liverpool to play his style of football as well.

I think it’s a great match, Arne Slot and Liverpool. I can see him working there for a long time. The club are very stable and so is Arne, so it’s a good match. People are going to appreciate him for how well-equipped he is and they will enjoy his style of football. I’m looking forward to it a lot.

I'm not being negative, I am massively onboard with it all but its something that always makes me wonder about any managerial appointment.

At the top level, the differences in backroom staff such as fitness coaches is going to be very minimal - they are all going to be working with pretty much the same methods as it's mostly science-led, just with some subtle differences based on personal preference. Because of this, having someone that is known to work well with the head coach and that knows his methods/demands/requirements is enough to make them the best candidate.

It's also not the kind of role that is going to be noticed enough for much poaching to be going on. If a dutch person has worked their way to the top of dutch football then you can rest assure that they will very much know what they're doing. Without moving around with a head coach, there is little opportunity for them to progress any higher.

Take Kornmayer as an example - he only came to Liverpool because Klopp was aware of him from his time in Germany. It's not something you can really scout for. Prior to that, he just worked his way up at Bayern rather than moving from elsewhere.

And if the rain stops, and everything's dry.. she would cry, just so I could drink tears from her eyes.

Welcome Arne!  Presumably also welcome to a new backroom team but maybe they'll be announced individually over the coming days.

I feel a bit like a Spurs fan in that next season I'm content with being entertained, a decent cup run somewhere and achieving CL qualification.  I think Man City will go at 95+ points next season and Arsenal likely won't be far behind that.  It's asking a huge amount from Slot to match that pace in his first season.

A summer where we sort out new contracts for Trent and maybe Virgil would be fine by me.  Unless there's a world class #6 on the market then I don't see the point in signing players for the sake of it.  Let's see what Slot can do with the current squad and the youth players on the fringes of it.

Those features with former players aren't really informative in the nitty-gritty. What we don't know is how Arne Slot will coach players who have considerable more skill than any he has coached before - showing them videos of Liverpool as an example would be quite amusing, granted. He certainly can't show them videos of their competitors and by inference suggest they are not on the some level. Be interesting to know how he adapts his tried and tested methods to elite athletes. Also, to the fact that for the first time he's coaching players who have considerably more experience of success than he has.
