Why ???

Because playing teams we have a bit of a rivalry with is alot more interesting than them no marks.  It's also alot a sweeter beating them too.

As do I but I look at this as another rich family that won't be buying Everton.

One of my Forest supporting mates reckons the new owners would try to bring in Colin Wanker as their new manager, I hope they try to get promoted with Cotterill or if they want their man, they try to bring in an outside the box appointment and not the usual suspects.

Certainly, seeing the likes of them, Leeds,Derby and maybe even Cardiff etc in the League is better than seeing the Wigans et al (no disrespect)

I like having Wigan in the league, if only because I'm constantly amused by the vitriol they receive for the crime of existing and struggling to attract fans. Dave Whelan is a twat though

Having worked in Notts for the last 3 years, I can say they are a decent bunch of fans (been to watch them on occasion) but the past stops me from having any real affection. Interesting to see what goes off now they have some cash. Am I right in thinking the FFP rules don't apply at that level?

More CL's than all of London. ;D

Wasn't old enough when this rivalry started. Is it a fierce one? Or is it more a rivalry as LFC and NF were the only 2 teams that were competiting for the league back then?

As much as i don't like either club would much rather Forest and Leeds in the premier league than the likes of Wigan.

I would like to know how the rivalry started with NF and Leeds. I'm of the knowledge of Leeds being Manc haters. So I always have a soft corner for them. Still I would like to know about the rivalry between us and those 2 clubs.

Just born out of intense rivalry I think. It’s slightly before my time but at the end of the 70’s and early 80’s Forest were a very good side, as proven by their back to back European Cup titles. They knocked us out of Europe one year and I think also beat us in a League Cup final as well before we went on our early 80’s winning streak.

Then you had the contrast in managers, Clough quite the extrovert and brash and outspoken, Paisley quietly getting on with being the best in the business.

There’s also a social aspect as well I think – didn’t Nottingham miners break the picket line around that time which didn’t go down well with the rest of the country?

Some of that is a bit 2nd hand info dredged up from the back of my mind. Someone else should be able to give a bit more detail.

As for Leeds - I think everyone just hated them under Revie!

Nasty horrible fans, always a good day out and not been since 99 I think when I robbed a bottle of milk off a doorstep open it took a mouth full and realised it was off by about 2 weeks. Always leaves a sour taste does Nottingham. On the upside it's a great night out, once knew a bird who went thier to Uni, went down had a great night and shagged her mate. Hope they go up to be honest.

Wonder if that would be a good job for Roy Keane?

Is he liked at Forrest after he left them for Man U (Almost Blackburn).

Wonder if United would have went on to rule the late 90's early 00's if he had have went to Blackburn for Dalglish.

Hindsight eh.

No to Diego, but stability needed first. Hope we can get up before FFP kicks in big time.

Have they made noises about serious investment then, presumably, to make you hope as such?

Does this also mean that the 'selection committee' that effectively forced Davies to resign will be scrapped?

Still a big club punching below its weight in my eyes, Forest. The Premier League would be better for their inclusion (as well as Leeds etal) in my opinion.

Yeah they have, in their most recent letter they stated their commitment to returning us to the top flight and will invest heavily. The selection committee has thankfully been scrapped. Some right jokers in the run, David Fucking Platt, whoever put that must have been pissing themselves. I do realise some Liverpool fans don't like Forest as do Forest fans with Liverpool. But I would look forward to returning to Anfield and for you to come down to the City Ground.

It could well be that Brian Clough has something to do with it, he managed both clubs but only spent 44 days at Leeds, he was hated by the leeds players.
Leeds, Notts Forest and us were competing for the League title and in those days only one club could qualify, it truly was the champions League, only the champions got to play in it.

Think us and Chelsea under Rafa and Mourinho. Two clubs who had high profile matches - they beat us in the league cup final in March 1978 (Phil Thompson conceding a penalty which wasn't) then knocked us out of the European cup in September. The two managers were chalk and cheese. But we ended their 42-game unbeaten record in league games in December 1978. Great days and a great rivalry. It's still referenced now: "We hate Nottingham Forest..."

I edited mine - I don't think Thommo was sent off (?) but conceded a penalty which I recall he protested afterwards was a "professional foul" outside the area. I think he got into trouble for that(?) Also Ian Callaghan got his first ever (and only?) booking in close to a thousand (?) first team games. A fantastic rivalry.
