his problem is a chronic lack of subtlety and *pundit alert* game intelligence.

When he plays, I am praying he cuts in from right, unleashes a shot -- cos that's one fearsome weapon he has.

I also think he suffers from low self-esteem ON the pitch. Always thought a bit more encouragement from the senior players would have helped him. But have yet to see him be properly 'included' as player. If that makes sense.

I read the title and had a mental image of Babel in the Melwood khazi with Stevie G knocking on the door while bursting for a captain's log.

your mind works in very strange ways, Roy!!  ;D

Give the lad games and he'll deliver. People berate this lads playing ability, but not Lucas'. If Ryan had Lucas' attitude there wouldn't be an issue with Babel.
Still think he has a future here.

Same old story from Ryan, but what annoys me, is that I keep wanting to give him these chances. I just know if he left us, for a decent club, he would be a success. He has all the ability and talent in the world, and in his first season, I remember comparing him with a young Ronaldo. Young raw talent, who needed to be polished.

But that polish has never come, and now we have to ask ourselves, will it ever? I want it too, I think we all do.

The polish is there, just no-one seems to apply it ;)

if we need the money, he'd be a useful asset to sell.

not about his skill, his attitude or whatsoever but i would feel that he seems like a very sellable asset with interested buyers. so it's not really for him to decide now is it?

over to u mutherfookers sitting in the boardroom.

Babel should be playing on the right a head of Kuyt. I love Kuyts attitude but given a run of games we might see that from Babel. He has so much potential.

Haha, he's not even starting. Can't make this up. The kind of run and finish he showed shows he has at least a little bit of hidden potential. He's not gonna play though, so there we go.
It wouldn't be Liverpool if we didn't do it the hard way... ask Gareth Southgate.

May be he is being preserved for the West Brom game?

Although, It would make no sense if he doesn't start the West Brom game as well.
A Liverbird upon my chest, we are the men of Shankly's best. A team that plays the Liverpool way, and wins the championship in May.

I have a nagging feeling that they are literally waiting with bated breath for a real offer to come in for Babel right at the close of the window to ship him - followed by the now familiar

"he needs to play every day and I can't offer that to him here"

Not his biggest fan by any means but our squad depth requires that he is kept at this stage.
Puzzled as to why he is not starting tonight.

I like him, he'd probably be a decent guy to hang out with.

The way I see his situation is like this. Its unlikely we will get top 4 and it is unlikely we will finish outside the top 7. So if that is the case, you could probably allow Ryan to start every game for a 2 month stretch to once and for all see if he can sink or swim.
This would never happen but its just odd to see someone still with us, who clearly needs a run of games but doesnt seem to be given enough leash to get those games under his belt.

After the goal, i thought hoped he would get another shot, but maybe because it is away game he will sub on for Torres or kuyt. Bit more work on defence and desire attitude should perhaps see him improve overall, he definately has other attributes, Babel and Pacheco should get more game time IMO
The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.

Good to hear positive words and desire and belief in our club from one of our players.

Now match your performances with those words.

Time to deliver now Ryan; thought he did OK for the few minutes he was on the pitch but i would love to see him do it consistently over 90 minutes game in game out.

Twice I've seen him do it for aslong as possible (untill he got taken off) and they were his performances against Real Madrid when he roasted Ramos, and against Bolton away when Steinsson was right back.

Not sure what's going on with Babel. He's way behind most with his fitness but he's looked decent in his two games so far. Ngog works hard but as soon as Babel come on there was a bit more energy and intent.
