Looking out our goals conceded column makes for grim reading.

To put things into perspective we've conceded one less goal than Crystal Palace ! Sunderland have conceded only 7 more goals than us !

It's imperative we sort the defense out and become more solid.

Have a look at our goals for column lad. If you keep 38 clean sheets a season, you might not win the league. If you score more goals in 38 games in a season, you win the league.

Very true but I would also say that should we win 1-0 in every game remaining , then we win the league as well .....I think it's a lot to expect 4 and 5 goals every game just because we concede 2s and 3s at the back . Looking forward, should we get champions league , the defensive side of our game will need to have been addressed so hopefully that work has started in ernest this week . Think we will show solidity today , not necessarily a clean sheet but at least an ability to defend pretty straightforward opponents approach play . I don't think that is a lot to expect from one of the top sides in the league.

Not denying that our defence has been laughable at times this season, but why focus on that? Our goals for column is the best in the league. So why not look on the bright side? We are 4 points off the top with 11 to play. We have reached this point with this laughable defence, and would be even better if not for Howard Webb and Lee Mason.

It's a commentators quote from the 74 cup final ......If he had said " clean sheets pay the rent " then I would have used it  :) love the amount we score , it's fucking wonderful to see but these individual mistakes have been costing us and if we cut them out , I expect a top two position.

With Chelsea 4 points ahead (along with City if they in their game in hand) it is out of our hands. The sooner someone turns them over so the gap is reduced to 3 points (or less) the better.

A 4 points gap over 11 games, with both Chelsea and Man City coming to Anfield?

Its just a case of win the next game; hope others dropped points.

Out of the remaining 11 games, if we get at least 8 wins, then it will be job well done for the season.

That's a bloody huge ask though. Especially with 3 of our 5 home games being some of the most difficult games of the season.

Oh yes most definitely a ' bloody huge ask'. But think 8 wins is good enough to secure 4th spot comfortably and put adequate pressure on the 3 teams above us,  especially that City and Chelsea come to Anfield. Would be a cracking atmosphere.

I hope all the pessimists about 4th are not match-goers. That sort of weakness can transfer onto the players you know. Stay at home and give your ticket to the most psychopathic (but law abiding) fan you know!

Some it it is just being over-cautious, but I think a little bit of fear is good - it keeps the players focused on what they have to do

Who's ignoring it? The situation is what it is. They don't have Ferguson anymore, they have a manager in over his head for a club that size who is, by the week, showing the mental strain of the pressure he's under, and they play dire, turgid football that has seen them gain 1.66 points per game, which would give them 63 points over the course of the season. To get top four, they may need to get 30 points out of 33 available - that's 2.72 points per game. 2.72 points per game gets you 103 points per season. Even a generous 2.36 points per game gets you 89 points for the season. So having been miserably average over the course of the previous 27 games, they would now have to turn on title-winning form and win 9 of their last 11 games at least just to break the 71 point standard for top 4. That means they can only afford 2 more losses. Do you see them seriously winning 9 games and losing a maximum of only 2 games between now and the end of the season?

My concern with that post, is that someone associated with Utd will read it. And that's Moyes gone.
