Depends what kind of business they do in the transfer market. Their current squad would struggle mightily and be relegated I reckon but if they get a  number of good players in they can finish midtable.

Think we all know what Rafa will do now.. He will try to get a striker , a player behind the striker, a defensive midfielder, a deep playmaker and two CBs .. He always try to sort the spine first and usually when he spend big on a player he gets it right.. If Newcastle back him in the summer they will do very will ..

This doesn't look good. (Off twitter, but reliable source)

Quote
My understanding is that HM Revenue & Customs are investigating transfer activity at Newcastle United & that Lee Charnley [their Managing Director] has been arrested. A statement is to come from #Nufc. It is also understood that at least one other club is being investigated by HMRC.

George Caulkin, The Times

(West Ham may be the other club - SSN apparently reporting they got raided by police too.)

Telegraph has a comment by HMRC:

Quote
HMRC say they have arrested "several men working within professional football industry for suspected of income tax and national insurance fraud".

Also confirm that West Ham are the other club.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/04/26/newcastle-managing-director-lee-charnley-arrested-st-james-park/

edit: actually Indie has the full thing:

Quote
HMRC say they have arrested "several men working within professional football industry for suspected income tax & national insurance fraud."

"180 HMRC officers have been deployed across the UK and France today. Investigators have searched a number of premises in the North East and South East of England and arrested the men and also seized business records, financial records, computers and mobile phones.

"The French authorities are assisting the UK investigation, have made arrests and several locations have been searched in France.

"This criminal investigation sends a clear message that, whoever you are, if you commit tax fraud you can expect to face the consequences. As this is an ongoing investigation HMRC is unable to provide any further detail at this time."

If you've noticed my avatar thats my 2 lads with rafa at melwood maybe 8-9 Yeats ago , my niece wangled them a visit one morning to watch the team train and get pics and meet the players in the guys office who looked after the foreign players . After meeti g and the pictures they were in the corridor with my niece who knew the tea woman . The tea woman asked if they'd met and had pictures taken with the boss they said no ..next minute he is on his way to a press conference when the tea lady summoned him over to meet them and get some pics , had time for a chat with them and made theres and my day .
Great story. Well in Rafa and welcome back the Toon!

Depends on what has gone on there. HMRC have gone for a criminal investigation, rather than offer a deal, so see where that ends up. If you want parallels, maybe something like happened to Rangers in Scotland would be the worst case for the two clubs. (edit: ie sanctions depending heavily on whether what has happened is perceived to have given a competitive advantage.)

We've one very unhappy Geordie Project Manager in work, she's fuming like mad. Her son is texting her, she's no idea where he's getting his info, but points deduction and transfer ban on the cards he's telling her, which is just darkening her mood even further.

Incredible stuff. Iirc Carr / Newcastle used to have a very strong connection with a football agency in France, who facilitated most / all of their French signings. The report of the investigation mentioning France, north east....what are the odds the dirt's there.

Would you rather have your automatic promotion taken away and stay in the Championship

Or

Tale a 10 point deduction in the Premier League and risk being relegated again?

A bit early for that, 4pool?

Hopefully it settles into something individual focused rather than the whole club, for the sake of their fans.

Seeing as its just under £100 million for finishing bottom, I think that's what the owner will want.

If they are found guilty and deducted points, then I think it should happen this season and auto promotion should be taken away from them.

Lee Charnley, I mean, just exactly who is this dickhead?  Before getting the Managing Directors job here at St James' nobody had even heard of him.

Being such an honourable and decent man I wouldn't blame Rafa if he told these c*nts to shove it up their arse.  He has his reputation to think of, why exactly would he want to be associated with these fucking imbeciles?

The day after being promoted to the Premier as well . . . . . as usual Ashley you have played a fucking blinder, you fat useless sack of shit.
