Looking at Sterling walking off the pitch he seems really shaken, almost shocked by what can only be described as an assault from that manc cnut. Anyone who ever experienced anything similar will recognize that feeling. What Valencia did was brutal, it has no place in football, or in life. It would be ridicolus if he only has to sit out one friendly after that.
Hope Raheem are ok....

Not a chance lad, Valencia grabbed him by the fucking throat... that's violent conduct and an instant red. I'm not having anyone saying that someone can grab our Raheem by the throat and it be allowed on a footy pitch, red card all day long, debate the Sterling challenge all you want, but that was fucking disgusting by Valencia, experienced pro should know better.
Experienced pro can't stand a better, younger, classier player with the balls to tackle him. So, the experienced pro, twice as large as his opponent, beaten to the ball by the younger better player, his sense of entitlement ravaged, attacks from behind, round the neck, with his pals close by.

Raheem's reaction? Nothing. No petulance, no jumping, no anything he might have been justified in. Nothing. And he took an undeserved red card the same way, though he was clearly surprised at it. He just walked. Small is Raheem, but hard is Raheem, a true jewel. A player as good as Raheem who does not rile is a dangerously beautiful commodity.

Now twice he's on for Rooney. So even Hodgson dares think what the future is, and that maybe the future is at hand. If England are to get anywhere, Raheem will star.

And if Valencia ever plays against Liverpool again, there will be half-a-dozen doing tag on him all game long. As also, from his showing tonight, might well be expected from Ecuador's group opponents: Tag the *un*, he don't like it up 'im.

It is a machine. It is more stupid than we are. It will not stop us from doing stupid things.

Can't be too tough on both players. Sterling over committed trying to impress Hodgson, credit to him for not reacting. Valencia, while an absolute baffoon, obviously still has the mental scars of having his leg broken last world cup.

I'm just disappointed that Sterling will now miss the next friendly which may hamper his chances of starting for England in the WC

Banned for final friendly FFS, so Sterling has only played 40mins... everyone else in the squad has played more...

I will be soo pissed if Rooney plays like rubbish in the final warmup game and starts on the left ahead of him...

Good that it's happened in some ways, especially in a friendly where it won't mean much. I love that Sterling is a tenacious little fucker and he has had to be through each age group playing against much bigger lads but you're always told to stay on your feet so it really was a daft tackle not needed in that part of the pitch and I think Gerrard will remind him of that, he learnt from rash challenges early in his career

Valencia is still an insufferable one trick prick though

I would say it was a strong challenge by Raheem, and in no way did he go for the man as he actually got the ball, but I can understand Valencia being upset seeing as he has had a bad leg break before and he clearly saw the red mist descending. Doesn't excuse his shocking reaction though, and it was that more than the challenge that got them both sent off.

Fuck it, I hope Raheem continues to be a tencious little bastard because its a great part of his game you just dont expect from a skilfull attacker.

Its a pretty wild lunge that catches Valencia on his standing foot mid shin area. Doesn't justify the throat grabbing but I can understand if Valencia was incenced getting flattened like that in a friendly when he's suffered a previous leg break.

Football is going to the dogs enough as it is. Sendings off for shit like that will only help to increase it. Hard tackle doesn't automatically mean it should be a yellow, sadly though the refs don't understand that.

First thing I noticed as well, the game was going to be restarted with a throw in, no freekick was going to be given.

To be honest though I think it's a good thing for us in the long run, 'cos that sort of tackle is one that Raheem has been more than willing to go flying in with and you can usually see it coming a mile off. Rather he received a red for one whilst playing for England and he can learn his lesson at the expense of someone other than us. Very impressed by his reaction to being assaulted though, he wouldn't have remained as calm as that 6-8 months ago.

Yes, deserved red for both.
Sterling was just over enthusiastic to claim a place, He wasn't trying to injure Valencia but to do that in a friendly before a WC is just daft. Valencia's reaction was understandable considering he's already had a very nasty leg break before, but you just can't put your hands on a player.

The comments on him "throttling" Sterling are laughable though, he grabbed the back of his neck with one hand, he'd have to have hands like the mountain to do that. ;D

Raheem is so fucking cool, and deceptively hard. He's like, "fuck you think you're doing, soft lad?"  8)

As far as I'm concerned, it was a definite yellow for the full-bloodedness and clumsiness of the challenge in the circumstances, however innocent the intent (friendly just before the tournament starts, you'd see a deserved booking for that in any other similar match), but Valencia should really be getting more than a meaningless red for that reaction, and won't.

The incident last night angered me to the core.

Loads of photo's kicking about making it look like an absolute leg-breaker when infact Sterling clips the ball, misses Valencia's leg, and his back leg is the one that makes contact.

Absolutely no excuse for Valencia's reaction and it's frustrating that he won't face any action.

Loved Sterling's reaction - or lack of. Completely had him off.

I watched the tackle again and he's barely off the ground at impact and what the fuck are people on about "2 footed lunge" his right leg is bent behind him ffs. It's a big hard tackle for a friendly but anyone who's ever actually played the game knows these things happen.

You'll be showing 3/4 cards a game if these are the standards for a red. Valencia should be done for violent conduct.

It was a poor tackle. But it is nothing that Valencia himself doesn`t do week in week out in the league. The reaction was shight and he choked him twice. He also kicked Wilshere in the face earlier in the game and pretended nothing happenned. Also Paredes grabbed Wilshere by the throat when he was moving in to stand up for Sterling.
There really isn't.  I think a lot of us, even our own have started doubting it. It's time to rise up. And take what is rightfully ours. It's a big mountain, but what is the point in achieving something, which everyone can?

Fate has given us a mountain too big. We have to rise. We have to believe.

Having seen it again, it was a pretty stupid and dangerous challenge and I'm not suprised Valencia reacted.
Can't believe anyone here thinks its anything other than a  straight red. He barreled into the tackle with the full weight of his body, totally uncontrolled... If Valencia had his leg planted rather than doing that leap, Sterling would have detached it at the hip. I think the fact its a Liverpool player v a United player is colouring people's views here. Its a bad tackle. he needs to learn. The reaction is incidental from a player who has had his leg broken previously and was probably channeling that fear as well. Better Sterling gets a red card for  a dangerous and stupid tackle now, in a meaningless game (with a meaningless team) and learns to cut that out of his game, rather than he arrives back next season and gets red card in a more important match.

Well, it's an LFC forum. We are by nature going to defend our players (especially a breakout star). It was a wild tackle that has no place in a normal game let alone a friendly and Valencia's reaction was equally wild. I was satisfied with two reds and hopefully move on with experiences learned and recklessness cooled in time for the real games.
