The Walking Dead (Video game)
« on: May 1, 2012, 05:59:44 pm »
Anyone picked this up? It's available through Steam, PSN and Xbox Live. I picked it up off Xbox live for 400 points and I can say it's well worth it for that price. Although only episode 1 is released, it's split into 5 "episodes" and the first episode alone is about 2 hours long for a single playthrough but it can have extended replay value as you go back and play it in different ways through your actions.

It's sort of a cross between a point and click adventure and roleplay with heavy influence on story, characters and the actions you make and the things you say. I'd really recommend it to anyone who likes a good story or is a walking dead fanatic (it's more in line with the comics than the tv series) and it has appearances from Hershel and Glenn. When I first heard they were making a walking dead game I shrugged it off as being some sort of shitty fps cash in of some sort but i'm pleasantly surprised they've gone and put the effort in to make a great story based game likes this.

It makes a new story set before the comics/series and follows a new protaganist called Lee.

For it's price, i'd recommend giving it a go and seeing what you think.

Had a look at some videos of it few weeks ago, although I love the walking dead, it's not worth paying £16 per episode on PSN for something you'd play 2 or 3 times at most.

Preordered it on Steam for £18.89 for all 5 episodes. The first episode was fun. I'm going to have another play through it later in the week. It's a very similar style to the comics.

On PSN I think that's £16 for all 5 episodes, not just the one.

That's all of them though isn't it? Although only episode 1 is out I think the £16 or so is for all of them. For that much money, I think it's worth it judging from how good the first episode was.

It's 400 MSP per episode. So 2000 total which is about £15. Completed the first one and thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to picking the rest up monthly.

Ahh, I just assumed it was per episode.

If it's for all of them then i'll definately be getting it.

The second episode is out now! I thought this one was better than the first one, they built up the tension nicely before the big reveal.

Started episode 1 last night. Enjoyable stuff.

Reminds me of LucasArts' old stuff in a way.

Great visuals and sound. An interesting way to present the idea. I prefer it to the TV show as a side dish to the main comics to be honest.

Still got to finish the end of episode 3 yet.

I like this game. I think it's a much better evocation of the comic than the TV show is. It's a change from a lot of games out there too, with it's thoughtfulness and emphasis on character.

How well has the game sold? And are you planning on a second series?

GW: I don’t know the numbers but I know it’s the most successful game Telltale has ever made. A second season is definitely happening, and its direction will to some degree be defined by how season one ends – which of course is something we can’t really go into detail about yet.

Going to download 4 now.

Thought 2 was very good and built the tension nicely.
3 was good too but I think I played it too quickly after 2 and was in a bit of a hurry so didn't give it as much love.

Only completed 1 way back when it was released but now I've got the rest on Steam to complete them in time for ep 5 release. Got as far as episode 3 where you get to the train so far.

Spoiler
I tried to save Larry on the farm and noticed he was breathing when doing CPR before Kenny pulled the dick move and squashed his head with a block. Ending was pretty incredible as well, didn't kill anyone and stood with Clementine watching everyone raiding the car. But oh boy episode 3, it pulled one punch after another. Watching Lilly go full paranoid, Kenny being a jackass and now hating me. Bandits attack the place, Ducky gets bitten. Then Lilly has a mental breakdown and starts accusing everyone. I was the only person she trusted but had to side with Carley and Ben on this as accusing people wasn't going to help us. Then Lilly shoots Carley but I take her with us anyways as it wouldn't be right to leave her to die. Then she steals the RV. Wonder if we'll see her again? She was doing fine until Kenny killed her dad in front of her, the bellend.

This is amazing and depressing at the same time.

£20.99 on Steam for them all. I got it on Steam during the Halloween sale for £12.
