Do we not have a general Real Madrid thread?

If not, this will have to do.  Now that they've signed Isco, I'm starting to wonder if they'll pursue our Uruguayan wantaway after all this summer.  Add Cavani or Bale and I don't think they'd have the money or a place for him.  How, exactly, are they going to play Benzema, Bale, Isco, Ozil and Ronaldo anyway?  Not to mention any of the squad players they have in attacking positions behind those 5, some of whom are very good players in their own right (Modric, Callejon, Di Maria).

At any rate, I'm not sure how Suarez could possibly fit in, except as a backup option to their pursuit of Cavani and/or Bale.  What, then, is their plan?  How are they going to line up these players next season?  Barca have a wealth of attacking talent at their disposal as well, but they seem to have a coherent plan for a few variations on the main team and that's it.  Real seem to be returning to the Galacticos model; either that or they're going to sell 2 or 3 very good players (Di Maria has been mentioned, Higuain is practically gone, but could Ronaldo be added to that list?).

Is their strategy just to keep buying 3-4 of the best attackers in the world, every single season, and hope that they can find a way to get them to work together somehow?

Done deal?

From what I've seen so far I've got a feeling the plan is something like this:

- Bale instead of Di Maria
- Isco instead of Kaka
- One out of Cavani, Suarez or Morata instead of Higuain. If the option is Morata that would mean a bigger investment in a CM.
- Jese instead of Callejon.
- Casemiro instead of Essien, the CM
- Carvajal instead of Essien, the RB
- Some young prospect instead of Carvalho as CB
- Nacho/Arbeloa to fill Coentrao's absence as LB (a bad decision in my opinion) in order to give Marcelo all the confidence as definite starter.
- Maybe one extra CM to substitute Alonso in one/two years time, or even this very same season.

Out (in million euros): Di Maria (20-25), Higuain (25-30), Kaka (?), Callejon (5), Essien (0), Carvalho (0), Coentrao (20) -> (70-80)

In (supposed it's Morata the one being chosen): Bale (80-90),  Isco (30), Morata (0), Jese (0), Casemiro (6), Carvajal (6), Young CB (10), high cost CM (30) -> (152-162).

If it's a striker like Cavani the investment amount would be like 40-50 extra million more or so, but the CM would be a low cost one. The main consolation for Florentino Perez would be that the bigger Cavani or Suarez's prices are the more he can ask for Higuain as well.

I get the glamour of managing Real Madrid...but that job is next to Chelsea's in unstability. The good thing is they didn't do **** last season, but still, you'd think Ancelotti would take a chance and see what he can do with PSG, where he's apparently wanted.

Bale (80-90)
Will Bale really go for this much?  I mean that's ridiculous.  But I'm guessing they will try to exploit his marketing potential.

They always do (exploit the marketing potential of a certain footballer - Beckham, Ronaldo, Kaka, etc). I am not sure whether it will work this time with Bale tho, I mean, he is not that popular and loved as the rest before him.

Exactly. When has Ancelotti ever won the Second division though, eh? Eh? Never, that's when, fancy dan top flight flouncer that he is.

Leagues? Champions League trophies? Don't make Moysie laugh. He doesn't need them to be a winner.

No manager in his right mind would take over from Ferguson. He can't possibly match him, not unless he's got about 20 years so all the good ones are waiting to become Ferguson's replacement's replacement.

They may as well give La Liga trophy to Barca now.

Carlo's league record is quite poor considering the team's he has had.

He'll have them challenging in Europe though.

3 league titles in 20 years of management.

He's had control one the best post-Sacchi Milan side for 8 years, and only won the title once there. That's shocking in my books. Yes, they were fantastic in Europe (2 wins, and 1 final), but I'm talking about the league alone. Dida, Maldini, Nesta, Stam, Cafu, Pirlo, Gattuso, Rui Casta, Shevchenko, Inzaghi, etc all played most of their primes under Carlo in Milan, yet the team won 1 league in 8 years.

In England, he had a phenomenal first season...but totally collapsed in the second (finished on 70 points, 13 points behind champions United who only won 5 away games all season and had strike force of Rooney, Hernandez, and Owen).

in PSG, he took over when they were leading the table, yet managed to lose the title to Montpellier in his first year despite having far better individuals.
Last yea, he won the league, but PSG should have been more dominant and not left it until 36th week. Plus, they had a habit of drawing and losing games against smaller teams, something he can't afford in Madrid.

He's a brilliant CL manager. A legendary one in that, but his league record is very poor in comparison.

Shockingly so. I guess his league record at Milan is the one being referred to, but it's one of those periods in Italian football where you sort of avert your eyes a bit because of the corruption. Took over a Milan with a pretty severe post-Capello hangover, got them a couple of second places and a scudetto during the period, and won two European Cups and reached another final. That's not too shabby at all. If he can negotiate the behind the scenes shit at Real Madrid, he's got a good chance of really pushing them on in Europe and being competitive against Barca in the league. Looks like Perez has got the chequebook out too.

But how many top-notch managers have we said that about before? The place is a zoo. As good as he is, he's likely to be gone in 2-3 years so they can bring in the next one.

Aye soxfan. Y2J's points are well made though. I think Real Madrid will be doing a big group hug for a couple of seasons now too. Lots of love, peace and 'aren't we such a classy club' type things. Pendulum will swing the other way as far as they can push it after Mourinho. Do like Ancelotti a lot. Gold ring in a pig's nose though there. Will be interesting to see where he takes the team and how well he manages Ronaldo's ego.
