Sorry, but I am not buying it ... LFC is a step up from Dortmund, even though they are a pretty big club themselves ... At LFC, Sahin would establish himself as a starter pretty soon, while at Real Madrid he would need to displace Alaonso in order to do so ... In reality, moving to Real Madrid would be a very bad career move for Sahin ...

At LFC, he won't get CL football. At Dortmund and Real, he will.

It all sounds reasonable until you realize that Real probably told him he'll be Alonso's successor. He's a young lad and the vision of playing in Madrid had to do his head in, exactly what happened with Michael O***.

Nuri Sahin playing CM for Madrid with Oezil infront of them? They'd get fucking ripped apart.

I don't think that CL football is the most important thing for a 22-year-old ...

Xabi Alonso is 29 ... At his position, that means at least 3-4 more seasons of top level football ...

I know. But if you're 22 and you're offered high wages, Madrid lifestyle, Champions League football and learning footie from Xabi himself - I imagine it's hard to say no.

And anyway, I think Mourinho will try to play Alonso AND Sahin even though it sounds a little crazy. But in La Liga, where they have the ultimate control in 36 of 38 games (;D) it shouldn't be as risky as it sounds.

What is then? I would imagine it's pretty high up on the list of priorities of most top footballers, regardless of age.

I assume you think we would have a chance of getting Sahin if we made an approach. I just don't see what we could offer him in the short term that Dortmund or Real couldn't offer him now.

Thanks for the heads up. I won't hold my breath for an answer then.

People pluck these names out their arses and expect us to sign them no matter who else is after them. This place is going to be unbearable come August if we have not signed a couple of 'world class' players in the summer. I can imagine the outrage that will poured onto these boards by some posters if our summer transfers consist of the likes of Cahill, Enrique, Adam, Jarvis and Young.

Sorry for taking the thread off topic!

It is not about the short term ... Liverpool FC have just started an exciting project, and any ambitious and smart young player should be made aware of that ... In my humble opinion, Suarez and Carroll are just the beginning ... Kenny signing Nuri Sahin this summer would be very much like Rafa signing the 23-year-old Alonso, back in 2004 ... There is always time for Real Madrid and Barca ...

Makes absolutely NO sense to leave the Bundesliga chmapions and CL contenders next season to a Europa league club in rebuilding phase. I am trying to be objective here.

If he signs now he'll be gone within two season. Probably end up at one of the Milan clubs. Thats what happens when you sign for Madrid.

If we were talking about Bayern Munich, I would have agreed ... However, Borussia Dortmund are very much in the same financial league as other recent Bundesliga champions (Werder, Stuttgart or Wolfsburg) ... It is up for the players' advisers to recognize the opportunity that has been presenting itself at LFC at the moment ... At least it seems that Aquilani's agent is recognizing that opportunity, so that is probably the reason we are not pursuing Sahin at all ...

You can't be serious. Why the hell would Sahin go to Liverpool? Dortmund play CL next season, Liverpool won't. I do not see one reason, why Liverpool is a step up from Dortmund. It's the opposite. I don't want to offend anyone of you, but I just can't follow you on this one.

And to the guy who said Sahin has been at Dortmund for 5 years: He already joined in 2001.

I do rate Borussia Dortmund fans and your club, but that sounds like an arrogant thing to say ... Since you financial meltdown, you've hardly been part of the European elite ... The fact that Sahin is leaving must be painful for you, but it is how it works in European football these days ... By the way, I think that Ilkay Gundogan will be a suitable replacement ...

Well I'm not saying that Dortmund > Liverpool, and I won't say that Sahin is never going to play for Liverpool. But in the following summer, a move from Dortmund to Liverpool is not a step up. If Liverpool was playing CL next season than it's a completely different situation.

Btw, I have a feeling Nuri is going to stay for at least one more season. So I'm hoping for a Sahin-Gündogan-Bender midfield  ;)

You really believe Dortmund would be unable to match whatever we would be able to offer Sahin in terms of wages?  :o They are not exactly skint ya know. They'll be playing in the CL next season , making a shit load of money in the process. They have an 80K stadium which is almost always close to full capacity. That's a lot of money ,even with Bundesliga prices.

I know that the CL money would improve Dortmund's financial position, but our revenue has also improved, due to the Standard Chartered deal kicking in ... Realistically, we earn twice as much money as BVB ...

Doesn't matter if we earn twice as much money. They will be able to match his wages. They don't have players like Cole on 90K a week. And thats 2008-09. The CL will make a hell lot of difference , especially with their attendances. You don't realize how much the CL adds to income. We were in the CL in 2008.

Its all academic anyway. If he leaves Dortmund, he will go to Real or Barca.

In my opinion, absolutely. Most importantly he has two games against Arsenal, Chelsea, City, Utd and Tottenham a season, and the average&below average teams are more challenging than the German ones. I don't think Sky has anything to do with this, ask anyone and 90% will probably tell you Premier League is a step up no matter which league you are coming from. How many times have we seen footballers saying Premier League is their destination because it's the most challenging league in the world? You think it's all thanks to Sky propaganda? Not really.

PL is a player's destination because of the money, not because it's the most challenging league in the world...

EDIT: According to Sahin's Facebook-Account, he'll make a decision by the end of this week:
"Hallo Freunde, danke für die Glückwünsche. Ich kann es immer noch nicht realisieren :)
Wir werden Ende der Woche, zusammen mit dem Verein, eine Entscheidung treffen.

Actually, I do realize how much the CL adds to income ... If you have a good run, you earn 20-25 million more than in the Europa League ... And no, Dortmund would never be able to match the wages we could offer him ... Pretty much like when we doubled Suarez' wages when he's arrived at LFC ... The only club in Germany that could match LFC level wages is Bayern Munich ...

I'd say money's there because of how challenging it is. Not every player moves to England because of money, it has to be one of the reasons, but for the ambitious players I believe it's the level of footie. Torres has taken a pay cut to join us in 2007, didn't he?

Actually, I do realize how much the CL adds to income ... If you have a good run, you earn 20-25 million more than in the Europa League ... And no, Dortmund would never be able to match the wages we could offer him ... Pretty much like when we doubled Suarez' wages when he's arrived at LFC ... The only club in Germany that could match LFC level wages is Bayern Munich ...

You don't get it do you?

Show me the revenue/expenditure breakup for LFC and compare it with Dortmund. Dortmund would be easily able to match his wages because they don't have a score of players on insanely high wages(common for bigger clubs in the PL). They make less money but they also spend less on wages by the virtue of having lot more young and relative unknowns in the squad , so they can easily match or at least get close to what we can offer to a player like Sahin if they really want to keep him.

How much do you think we would have offered him? 100-150K a week? No chance. 50-70K is realistic and Dortmund can match that.

BvB09 can shed more light on this.

I would like to see the latest income figures , preferably for 2009-10 season.

I'd say other than the top 5 clubs or so , the Bundesliga shits all over the PL  lower down the field, both in terms of quality and style of play. Show me one hoofball physical team in Germany , the equivalent of the Stokes and Sunderlands of this league. Their bottom club play better football than Evershite.

And Spain is miles ahead , technically and otherwise.

The reason the PL is ranked second in the UEFA list is because of the performances of the top 4 clubs in the CL in recent years. The top 4 does not make a league the 'best in the world'.

Insane wages on shite players, not in accordance with their income due to poor management. Now where have we heard that before?
