I presume you mean Sami, not Stephane!

Big statement, but I honestly couldn't name a better centre-half in the world than Sami.

Having said that, Stephane has, this season, been as good as he.

I think part of the problem is that it's players who do the voting, and they always tend to gravitate towards players who impress further up the pitch.

The other problem is that they still vote for it very early. They actually voted when our defence was not looking so good - we had a worse defence than Fulham! - and people tend to look at the team's defence first, then look for an individual in that defence to single out.

Sami is in the PFA team though.

Still can't understand how Van Nistelrooy won the player of the year ahead of Pires, as Pires was outstanding and so far what has RVN done against the top teams.

in a team like utd, any striker that plays is bound to get many chances to score. a good player in their team will score 30 a season - eg andy cole. so, what a surprise! a very good player has scored a lot of goals!! spooky!

i would have given the award to ole gunnar soleskear over horse face as he gets about a thrid of the chances to score and still sticks'em away.

hyypia's exclusion? madness

I'm not entirely surprised at Van Nistlerooy given that his scoring run was fairly fresh in the mind when the vote was made.

The biggest scandal has got to be Jerzy's omission from the Premiership XI - generally accepted as the best keeper in the Premiership but Shay Given gets the vote instead!

How embarrassing it's going to be for them if we end up winning the league...  8)

Shay Given's done well for newcastle but Jerzy is top man followed by Cuddicini in my book.

Jon....

Very good choice of the top 3 keeper's in the Premiership and the dude is our best goalie since Brucie and Clemence  8)

And Cudicini has been execllent for Chelsea i have to admit....

P.S. Bit suprised that Given was named as the top goalie in the premership  :-\

Defenders will be recognised one day.
*hic* sorry... been drinking, I'm delusionistical.

Cudicini is a fine shot stopper, but then the Chelsea fans I've spoken to recently (well the ones who can manage more than two syllables at a time anyway) would rather have Dudek... they reckon Cudey babes is a bit suspect on crosses and positional play. Which sounded far too much like deja vu to me so I got another round in and then we agreed that Sami was better than Desailly too...

Maybe it was because I was buying?

Anyway, Sami, Dudek and Stephane are still... despite BBC writers best intentions... under rated and it's scandalous that Sami wasn't even nominated...

Football is a simple game based on the giving and taking of passes, of controlling the ball and of making yourself available to receive a pass. It is terribly simple - Bill Shankly.

He was still chosen in the PFA's premiership 11; our only representative, what a shame. Dudek should have been there as you folks said, and how come Owen was omitted?  >:(

Owen has'nt been as succesful as 3-4 others strikers due to the injuries.

But van nistelrooy did'nt deserve it in front of Pires.

Why take it seriously?  If Scumchester wins f**k all this season wouldn't it make it more amusing that they have the PFA Player of the Year?

"RvN was nominated by all professional footballs as the PFA Player of the Year because he helped to stop Man Utd's dominance of English football....."

If by successful you mean number of goals scored, then yes he is preceded by 4 of them in the premiership, but in my opinion, he deserves to be recognized for the impact his goals have made on the team, despite being injured.

How come Goldenbarf got into the final 6 just by virtue of one free kick against Greece, but Owen's hat-trick against the Germans didn't get him into even the team.

I'm not saying he should have because of that one game, but Beckham couldn't get in his club team for almost 3 months cos he was so crap - which makes me think that free-kick got him most of his votes.

Don't get me on about that. How many times have you heared that Beckham got England to the World Cup? Methinks a 5-1 win away to Germany was a little more significant than a home draw v Greece.

Anyway im not bothered which other players were nominated, only that our own didn't get more recognition.

Its a disgrace that Jerzy (player of the year) and JAR (young player of the year) as well as Sami didn't get nominated.
