itv quiz team ???
« on: June 13, 2001, 07:41:19 am »
My name is Jay Bates and I work for ITV Sport.

I am looking for 5 Liverpool fans to represent the club in a new fans quiz show that is to be screened on ITV Sport.

Below is a copy of a letter that was sent out to all Football Clubs that will be involved in the quiz.

ITV Sport will pay for all travel and accommodation expenses and contestants will also have a food allowance for the period that they are in Manchester (where the show is to be filmed).

We need your help to find out which football club has the cleverest fans in the country. We want your brightest supporters to test their knowledge against the rest of the country's clubs in our daily television football quiz show.

On August 11, ONDIGITAL will launch a brand new sports channel, the ultimate for live football. We'll have 42 live Champions League games, 40 live Premiership matches, 100 live Nation-wide Leagues matches and 15 live Worthington Cup games to see.

On top of all this live football, there will be plenty of other programmes for the real football fan. Your supporters have a chance to be part of this exciting new channel by competing in our unique football quiz show against teams from all over the United Kingdom.

So how does it work?
108 teams of 3 people taking part - from the Premiership, Scottish Premier league and Nation-wide Leagues
Each club registers a squad of 5 people – you may decide to have the same 3 playing throughout the competition and use the other 2 in case of absence. Alternatively you could introduce a squad rotation policy
The first part of the competition is a league format with each team playing 5 matches
Each match consists of three teams (you could have Exeter City versus Manchester United versus Dundee)
Points are accumulated from each match with the top teams going through to the final stages – for the quarterfinals, semi-finals and final
Each show consists of questions on general football knowledge, home team knowledge and international football knowledge

Where and when?

Programme is shown twice daily from Monday to Friday throughout season

What do you need to do?
Contact Jay Bates (details below) as soon as possible with the name of the person organising your team
Organise a competition to find the 5 strongest contestants for your team
Remember the top prize for the winning team is a dream holiday, plus a trophy for the club, so competition will be strong
Your squad of 5 must be registered by mid June

If you have any questions please contact Jay Bates at jonathan.bates@granadamedia.com. 0161 835 6141

So spread the word and find your strongest team and we look forward to seeing how they tackle the opposition when the quiz kicks-off later this year.

Kind regards

Jay Bates

I know my stuff to a degree, but some of you guys (naming no names) go back a lot further than me. So count me out! Also, not sure if I could handle the pressure of being up against Man Utd and having to win for LFC's pride... then again, I've never met a Manc that even knows where OT is...
