« on: December 17, 2023, 12:20:42 pm »
Which Liverpool player was and is your all-time absolute and complete hero?

For Me it has to be the One and Only Sir Kenny Dalglish.

It was an honour just to watch him play and it was a honour to see him as our manager.

A true legend of the game, an ambassador for the club and such a humble and brilliant man.

I met him once or twice and got a bit star-struck :D

Incredible guy and for me our best ever player.

The King for me too. I always said he was our best ever player. That actually changed for me when Suarez  nearly won us the league almost single handedly. But Kenny was brilliant for years without the controversy of Suarez. Then was great in his first stint as manager. Steadied the ship after the owl in his second. Also, the way he conducted himself after the Hillsborough disaster will never be forgotten. What a man.

Gerrard.

Carried us on his back at times when we were at our lowest and having him in the team always gave hope on those nights we were underdogs. He would always show up and he embodied everything a Liverpool player should be.

I've disqualified Gerrard, for reasons discussed in his player thread. Nothing he's done compares to the king.

Kenny's just... it's impeccable. The playing career, wow. Then the managing career. Twice. When we needed it most, at different times. And he carried such a weight. One of those players that makes me wish I was older, so I could have seen it all.

If they ever built a new stadium (shudder), and had to name it after someone, the Dalglish Stadium.

I find it difficult to differentiate between Kenny, Gerrard, Suaerez and Souness as our best ever players.  Suarez probably drops out as he was only at Anfield for a few seasons. But overall, as others have said, Sir Kenny also contributed so much as manager, Hillsborough campaigner and overall club embassador. The greatest.

In my lifetime it simply has to be Kenny Dalglish. We've had so many fantastic players, but Kenny is a living legend. His contribution goes far beyond putting the ball in the net and lifting trophies. He is enmeshed within the fabric of this club and was a credit to it on the pitch and continues to be a credit to it to this day. He's the full package. A rare and special man.

Ian Rush absolute legend. Will always be the most prolific goal-scorer we will ever have. His record will stand for ever.

Met Rushie in a bar in Dublin.

He came in with his then girlfriend and was queuing at the bar which was about three deep.

I immediately turned into some sort of android automaton. Grabbed my wife and dragged her from our table leaving our drinks behind.

Went up to him and stammered something along the lines of "uhhhhh Rashy bug phan, Libpool all my loife". Shaking the whole time.

"Thars a seet doon thar for ya and you'll find a pint fer yersolf two".

Then dragged the wife from the bar leaving him to it. Got a selfie though.

The total legend must have had some weird experiences with fans in his day but they dont come weirder than me  :boxhead

As a kid, definitely Gerrard. We've had better players, but there can't be many who just single-handedly won as many games as he did. In more recent years, Alisson and VVD. I remember the first time watching VVD play for us and instantly realising I was seeing a level of quality I was unfamiliar with. Similarly, I remember in one of Alisson's first games he saved a free-kick that was taken in a promising position, and some voice in my head reminded me, "Oh yeah, keepers are supposed to save shots, aren't they?"

Otherwise....Klopp?

Jurgen Klopp.

Makes all the players twice as good anyway.

Well the reason i picked Liverpool to support in the first place was Ray Clemence and over the years I really liked little Mikey then Stevie and Xabi Alonso and then Torres and then Mane and i named my old dog after Baros cause he couldn't get his puppy head up, Sami was great in his prime and that year where nobody dribbled Virgil period was pretty amazing and Mo's just legendary of course and really Allison is the best of this generation that Newcastle save alone just impossible .

And then your culties like Riera and Kromkamp and Deegan and Cisse even and Divock (without whoom football is nothing) all play a part in it so its impossible for me to choose but imo Jurgen brought the most to the team and deliverd the impossible over and over and hes hard at again as we speak.

Klopp-Owen-Stevie-Mane are my faves i guess.
