Couldn't build on that good win last week but a really promising start for Doak.

The group formerly known as the u23s playing now  ;D

Cannonier playing, assuming because Stewart got sent off at the end of the last one

Full time: Won 1-0, Woltman the scorer

Watched the replay tonight. Doak is exciting (I like that his no.7 looks like a question mark) and Leeds had two outstanding players - the right back (2) and the tall 6 who came off having dominated the game. Liverpool’s ‘keeper looks like a ‘keeper’ too. A feature of the game for me was the lack of tackling in situations that called for a tackle. I’m getting old…

Bump. Ive completely stopped following the youth setups mainly due to lack of time (and probably lack of excitement). Production line seems awfully quite at the moment, we seem to be struggling to bring players through to the first team compare to the other 4 teams (im not including Man City because…well its Man City)

Liverpool-
TAA
Jones

Arsenal-
Saka
Smith Row
Nketiah
Martinelli (?)

Man U-
Greenwood
Rashford
Elanga (?)
Mctominay

Chelsea-
James
Mount
James
Loftus Cheek

Spurs-
Winks
Dier (?)
Kane
Skipp

Some could be wrong and some are definitely missing from the other clubs, I just listed the ones at the top of my head that are still at their respective clubs.

I wonder if on pitch success results in poor development of youngsters. Do they get given less of a chance when the pressures of winning are so high? Or are we just not very good at bringing young lads through?

Morton seems to be playing centre half in a cup game for Blackburn. Currently 1-0 down early on.

Yes. Players like Mctominay, Elanga, Nketiah, winks, Loftus-Cheek etc.  wouldn't have got close to a side going for 90 points let alone repeated chances. We could have kept Morton, , Wilson Neco etc. And given more chances at a lower level

I went to watch Bradford v Blackburn tonight.

Morton played full 90 mins at Centre Back and let me tell you all. He was fucking outstanding.

Controlled everything from the back. Passing was top draw. Took corners.

Quality Player.

That's good about Morton. Interesting to see him play centre half when they rotated heavily in the last round of the cup and he played in midfield.

Hope he can cement his place in the team soon, if he can have a good year it'd be excellent for all parties. I think he has potential and is the type we could go forward with at least in the squad.

As for Balagizi, good to see him start well, get the impression he could definitely be playing at League 1 level. Crawley aren't even very good so he could perform even better with better quality around him. Still only 18 though so he has time to kick on in these next couple of years. Who knows, he could perform so well there that a Championship team is taking a punt on him in a year and not a League 1 side.

morton at CB seems really weird move.

i always thought that he looks a bit slight and the physical nature of the game could give him problems. Even more so when faced with grocks in the lower leagues

Honestly he was outstanding last night at CB.

Here is what their local paper said about him:

Tyler Morton

In possession, played with slippers on. Looked at ease and played some lovely cross-field switches. Didn't look in too much trouble when Bradford tried to test him physically. Deserves a chance in the Championship. 8

Klopp's never going to use him at CB with his frame, he was talking him up as an 8 just before the loan as he needs to fill out more to be a 6.

A season in The Championship should do him good but he might struggle to get a run at CM as it's one of their stronger areas. Ultimately though when you're on loan you just need to take your chance when you get it, so the fact he's played well out of position last night is something to build on.

No, Klopp won’t use him at CB but going out on loan is to gain match day experience and to be in the 1st team squad as a minimum.

Playing at CB in gets him to develop. Have a better understanding of what is going on in a game and have a picture. He won’t end up as a CB but last night did him the world of good.

he probably will get another chance at CB against hopefully lower opposition in the cups

and maybe if he performs well enough could just be a stopgap for blackburn there.

does he have the athleticism for a no 8 role in our squad? not the biggest and defensively aware for a no 6. he seems neither here or there kind of player. His passing, composure and awareness at centre midfield is pretty freaking good though and always impresses me when on the ball.

Lets hope he gets more game time on loan. would be good for his development where ever he plays on the pitch for sure.

Do we not insert our must play so much percentage of matches, otherwise a fine/fee will be incurred clause in our loan deals anymore?

think its a myth that have become a "fact" for some reason or another

I guess if the player on loan put some good enough performances then he will get the game time. Its a results based business after all.

Made a great impression in the first half of last season (League Cup/CL group stage) but got thrown in at the deep end away at Spurs in a very patched up midfield and that really seemed to knock him out of his stride a bit and didn't feature much after that.

Harvey Elliott can be used as a guide though. A few first team games for us, a season on loan at Blackburn and then straight in our team at the start of the next season. The chances will be there if he can impress in pre-season next year with a few midfielders leaving.

Anyone know what happened to Paul Glatzel?

His loan at Tranmere came to an end having missed the back end of the season with injury (again), I can't find any info on him at all.

He's still on the Official site as an Academy player but his page looks like it hasn't been updated for months.

The amount of times our good prospects do their ACL (or other serious injuries like Brewster) is extremely unfortunate.

I wonder where Glatzel would be now had ne not got that ACL and then subsequent problems. Either in our first team or earned us a fair whack via a sale probably.

Ah thanks. Fills in the gaps. He won over the Tranmere fans last season after a slow start & they were as gutted as we've all been at his absence.

In fact, I'd say his loss was a major contributor to their awful end of season displays.
