You can often book flexible air tickets, which you can cancel. They cost more but give you that option. My mate's just booked a flexi ticket to Istanbul, which he will cancel if we don't get to the final.

Insurance will normally only pay out if you are forced to cancel, not if you just choose to cancel. You might be able to get a specialist bespoke policy but it'll probably cost so much it won't be worth it.

Insurance usually won't pay out if you knew the flight might need to be cancelled at the time of booking.

How do you recycle a laminate? In the paper bin or plastic bin?

Is it even recyclable?

Like a laminated paper bottle? Check what the recycling logo on the bottle says, but a lot of them cannot as it's mixed types of material.

What's the script with Royal Mail? They no longer seem to offer track & signed for parcels within the UK in-store anymore unless you have a printer and do it yourself for drop-off. Any reason why?

I sent something recorded delivery via the Post Office the other week. It was a normal envelope rather than a larger package but you should still be able to do it.

Person A and Person B are both listed on Companies House as directors of the same company.

Person B is no longer a director of the company as of 14/02.

How long does it take Companies House to update? Would it just be the next time the company file their accounts for Person B to be removed?

Normally you have to update them and then this will be shown on there.

I’ve just been fined by HMRC for not completing a Self Assessment form on time. I’m pretty sure I don’t need to do one. I worked briefly as a Contractor but went permanent in my current role about 3 years ago. I’m paid monthly, pay the usual taxes and NI and I’m pretty certain I’m not earning enough to have to complete a self assessment form.

I’ll call them tomorrow to appeal but does anyone have any experience of the rules around it?

Thanks

Can't give info on the rules, but a fella I work with, we are all employed F/T and work deals with tax NI), once had use of a spare company car for a couple of months after our boss died and ended up having to do self assessments for a couple of years.

Does anybody have any idea why the EPMD album 'Business Never Personal' is not available on Google Play but all their other albums are. Seems a little strange seeing as it's one of their best and most commercially successful albums, and personally speaking, one of the best hip hop albums ever made. I check every now and then to see if they've added it, but nothing. Same goes for De La Soul's '3 feet high and rising' LP. My hip hop playlist feels a little incomplete without it. There are a couple of singles from the album available  but not the album itself. If anyone knows why, or has any idea, I'd really appreciate it. Just curious I guess.

Hi Everyone,

My sister is a hairdresser and business has obviously fallen off a cliff.  Its a small place with owner and 2 employees

The owner wants my sister to stop working so she doesn't have to pay her during the lockdown and until tings get back to normal.
My sister wants to do best by her employer, the business could go under if she has to pay the 2 staff with no customers

What are the options in terms of universal credit, I understand you have to be in work to get UC.
My sister suffers from a mental illness and could go sick, can you claim SSP and UC at the same time?
Due to the economic situation I have invited her to live with me, will this prevent her getting benefits?

Thanks for any advice.
As I've said before, the Full English is just the base upon which the Scots/Welsh/NI have improved upon. Sorry but the Full English is the worst of the British breakfasts.

As a hairdresser myself if the salon is being thoroughly cleaned, clients aren't ill when they come in, have enough space between them and your sister is happy and able to work then her employer can't ask her to stop working.

It's not her responsibility to help her boss, the government are putting enough measures in place to stop people losing their jobs.

If the business closes then she'll get redundancy.

Yeah I appreciate that Debs, and  thanks for replying. She wants to do right by her though. You're right about the government are putting things in place. She doesnt want to take redundancy as she want to keep her job when everything is back to normal.

We're in the same boat mate.  Nobody wants businesses to close and as an industry we're very loyal to our employers, colleagues and obviously our clients.

We're still trading, theres 4 of us but all part time and doing our best to stay open.

We've discussed only opening 3 days and everybody work, keeps heating, lighting and water costs down.

The other 3 have kids so they've now got childcare to consider.

The redundancy would only apply if it shut permanently.

Hiya Debs.

My Mrs is a co owner of a salon in Pensby. She has nine staff but with all of the social distance instructions whilst not being told to close she thinks it's best to close as of tomorrow, off her own back. She has nine staff that she doesn't want to lay off and enough money to pay them for the month, next Friday, but four weeks from that she wont have money to pay them. She is in a nasty spot and really does not know what to do for the best.

It's a tough one mate as I've been a salon owner myself.

I'd be asking them if every other week working would work?  Half the staff is double the space?

4 one week, 5 the next?  They won't be seeing as many clients anyway and they could allow more time for each one if necessary?  Maybe offer to do home visits at the same price to keep the clients happy and loyal.

Some salons clients are pre paying for future appointments to help keep the business running.

Get creative, these aren't normal times so normal rules shouldn't apply.

Best of luck anyway mate, I don't envy anyone trying to keep afloat at present.

It'll make a massive difference to us all mate.

We've a meeting scheduled for tomorrow when we've finished but as things stand everyone wants to keep working.

There'll be some changes mainly due to childcare now the schools are shut but the 80% will be huge for employers having to make big decisions.

I dont have kids and dont have particularly big outgoings either so me offering to be furloughed would make sense as I could survive and keep my job.

The others do have kids and big mortgages so need every penny they earn, it would be devastating for them long term.

What's the deal with chargeback on a credit card?
Do I just submit a claim to the credit card company?
Is it absolutely necessary to contact the retailer?
I've flights  booked in May with EasyJet. Looking on Twitter it seems they arent even bothering to reply to people regardless of the contact method.

We had to do this with a laptop we bought one of the kids last year. You make a section 74 claim, but if I remember right, we had to contact the seller first. Fire a couple of emails off to EasyJet, give them time to respond and then contact your card company.

Our ‘Smart’ TV isn’t so smart. The internet connection seems to be bad, it cuts out about every hour. For some ridiculous reason our WiFi router has to live in a cupboard under the stairs but generally the signal is decent. However we can’t stream Netflix or anything similar without it cutting out regularly.

It’s never been that annoying but given the lockdown it’s getting used more frequently so any ideas on how I can improve it are gratefully received.

If Netflix is bad then that's saying something, as it automatically adjusts the quality down

are you sure its the telly, do other devices work fine? how does netflix perform on laptop for example?

Yep that's one alternative. I have a feeling once a tv receives no support or updates that's it,has happened to a few friends and family.

Firestick is the best in my opinion, throw netflix and/or iptv for a fiver a month or so sorted

I think it is just the tv. Kids watch stuff on the iPad and it’s ok. Basically need to connect it up almost every time we want to use it by doing the WBS search but then it tends to drop out again after an hour or so.

Would a fire stick or equivalent work better then? Is that just a case of plugging it into the tv.

Absolute novice here!

Would a fire stick or equivalent work better then? Is that just a case of plugging it into the tv.

Absolute novice here!
Yep firesticks are great, basically has all that you have on smart tv plus more. Just plug into tv and connect to wifi

As long as your wifi is nice and steady. I only get max 16mb here but never have issues with watching anything. Plus you can always update the stick and potentially move it to another room. Their great value

If you want any support with iptv or anything let me know

Our ‘Smart’ TV isn’t so smart. The internet connection seems to be bad, it cuts out about every hour. For some ridiculous reason our WiFi router has to live in a cupboard under the stairs but generally the signal is decent. However we can’t stream Netflix or anything similar without it cutting out regularly.

It’s never been that annoying but given the lockdown it’s getting used more frequently so any ideas on how I can improve it are gratefully received.

Are you in quite a built up area?

We found in our apartment, because there are loads of wifi signals in a close proximity that our signal used to be crap. I changed the channel that the router used and this really helped.

I then changed it to using the 5Ghz band and this helped even more.

Ah, that must be why our WiFi signal is better these days. Nearest neighbour is across the road.

How would I do any of that? Can’t even get onto Netflix at the moment! Son is on YouTube, wife is on a FaceTime type shite but just ran a speed test and it was something pitiful like 1.75. Have I got a problem with my router?

What broadband speed you meant to be on?

And what router do you have?
