Neil Atkinson just mentioned on twitter something about New Years Day. Is that some reference to Newcastle being moved to the first of the year?

Must have been! NYD @8PM. No game from boxing day to NYD. Good rest for that time of season.

Palace at 12:30 on a Saturday after a late Wednesday kick off, typically predictable.

Amazed the Bournemouth game isn't a 12:30 on Saturday as it was last and seemingly every year.

Network Rail haven't yet firmed up the schedule for 1 January, but what is in journey planners right now will give a pretty good indication of what you can expect the service to look like.

City at home is certain to be on Sunday 10th March and unless we get knocked out the Europa in the last 16 then Palace at home will be on Sunday 14th April. Should we reach the League cup final which will postpone Luton then there’s only that, Burnley and Brighton that may see Saturday home 3pm’s for the rest of the season.

Bugger!  I hadn't realised the Feb EL fixtures were play-offs.  Thought I'd seen them listed a while back as simply a two-legged round of 32.  I was counting on a game on a Thursday 22 Feb fixture to push back our game at home to Luton to the following Sunday.  Now got to hope we make the League Cup Final that Sunday instead.

Any hope of a January announcement soon ? Waiting on Chelsea and Arsenal away. The way flight prices are going  people seem to be gambling on Chelsea staying Wednesday but I'm cautious to book with Amazon liking a Thursday night game.

Its supposed to be announced approx. 6 weeks before the game...its very approx. though, so 'should' be announced towards the end of next week.

Changes to 5 weeks for January picks based on this, but it also says from the first match in the relevant month, so they've already missed that by a long way.

“The Premier League has committed to giving supporters a minimum of six weeks' notice (from the first match in the relevant month) on broadcast selections until December, and five weeks from January until Match Round 37. The Premier League will not be publicly announcing the release dates for each broadcast cycle.”

On the Chelsea fixture release page.
https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/article/chelseas-2023-24-premier-league-fixtures-announced

Great! Supporters will get even less notice this time round.

In case it helps anyone with travel / work etc. ... I'm almost certain 14 March will be the home leg of our EL round of 16 tie. As group winners, we're guaranteed the second leg at home.

Not if they get picked to play the 2ng leg of their R16 match on Tuesday 12th March it won't be.

Correct. So the game could easily be postponed until the final midweek of the season so Sky can have a super duper potential title decider...nothing would surprise me!

No doubt the PL will request that UEFA put City on Wed 13th but as we all know re. UEFA, they'll just do whatever the fuck they want to.

Good spot. Looks spot on per uefa rules here https://documents.uefa.com/r/Regulations-of-the-UEFA-Europa-League-2023/24/Article-18-Match-system-round-of-16-Online

The round of 16 pairings are determined by means of a draw, in accordance with the following principles:

The UEFA Europa League group winners must be drawn against the eight winners of the knockout round play-offs.
Clubs from the same association cannot be drawn against each other.
The UEFA Europa League group winners play the return leg at home.

Yeah, but don't they sometimes have mad scenarios when the legs get switched if there's too many games in the same areas? And as UEFA hate us, it would be no surprise if they did this to us. So I don't think it will be absolutely guaranteed until it's fully confirmed.

That's only when the advantage is given by the draw. They can't get that away for being group winners.

That is correct but I wouldn't put anything past UEFA as they have proved countless times that they couldn't give a flying fuck, and of course they don't have to answer to anyone.

This is defo a possibility. We'll have a better idea on Thursday night but I've just had a quick look and I can only see a few ways this problem could arise. Looks like it would need any of the following pairs to end up in the last 16 (and the current Europa League team in each pair would need to have finished as runners up in their group, otherwise they'll be in the same pot as us):

- Slavia and Sparta;
- Sporting (think they are now confirmed runners up based on H2H with Atalanta) and Benfica; and/or
- Betis and Sevilla.

Therefore feels quite unlikely at the moment. Both teams in each pair would need to make it through their play-off, and Slavia / Betis are still in with a good shout of winning their groups anyway.

An Amazon week I assume? Better for getting there after work but makes it a later night getting home.

Always assumed it was only Amazon that staggered times like that.

Thinking about City at home... that has to be on Sunday 10 March, right?

As discussed previously, it can't be Saturday as we play Europa R16 leg 1 the Thursday before... could it be moved to the Monday when we play the Thursday after?

Notwithstanding Jurgen and the team would probably prefer Monday (as we're away for the first leg and would prefer the extra day that side of the City game and I'm sure the cadence of three late evening kick-offs is better for the body), Sky has never arranged a Monday game for a team playing the following Thursday, have they?

(For the record, City will be playing their R16 2nd leg either the midweek before or the midweek after our game, TBC next Monday.)
