Angry Birds Beta Lite is now available on the Android market. Seems to work on my 2.1 Desire and is quite a hefty download.
It's 11mb in size, only took a minute or so over HSDPA.

do you still have the install file?  I cant find it on the market, they might have pull it out

Just got an HTC Desire and its cool but I'm so used to my old Sony Erickson its a bit of a culture shock. Most importantly, can I get Football Manager on it?

Personally I swear by the suggestive programs made by Andrew Johnson. Have bought most of them.
May or may not work in terms of what they set out to do. His soothing scottish voice never fails to relax me though.
So if you are stressed it might be worth checking out.
Two of them are free on the market; "relax" and "energy boost".
You will need some free storage space though.

SwiftKey is an awesome keyboard replacement. Far superior to the stock or Swype in my opinion.

Has anybody got a list of the top apps available? I've had a look on different sites, but their recommendations often vary. What apps would people recommend on here?

cheers mate.
The previous once I mentioned: "Relax by andrew Johnson", and "Energy boost with andrew johnson".
Others would be:
Snowstorm - weather
Handscent - better messaging
Agenda widget - for a proper calender
Barcode Scanner
Androzio
Market access= If you have rooted your phone
Websharing = If you want to be able to transfer files between your phone and your computer.

Apps I'm using a lot at the moment:

SwiftKey - Keyboard replacement. The predictive text engine is amazing.
Android2Cloud - Like Chrome to Phone but the other way round.
Dropbox
Fruit Ninja - Fun game.
IMDb
myPlayer - BBC iPlayer.
Tweetdeck Beta
Train Times UK - National Rail app. Pricey but worth it for the widgets alone.

I bought the full one when it was only 60p - absolute bargain. It's uncanny how well it can predict what I am going to type and has improved my accuracy tenfold.

.adam, have you discovered a way of taking printscreens/screen grabs on the droid?

Never really needed to take screenshots but it appears that you need to be rooted to do it. I just installed the free app "screenshot" from Gik Soft from the market and it seems to do the job. All images are stored under sdcard/screenshots.

No, jazz. You fear jazz. You fear the lack of rules, the lack of boundaries. Oh look, it's a fence. But, no, it's soft.
