Cheers for the links.  Tranmere got it all to do in the second leg.

They have. Got to win at their place. Remarkably different Tranmere compared to under Hill though, they dominated possession and were on the front foot most of the match. Poor quality final ball and Morecambe defended well throughout to be fair.

They'll have to come out of their shell at home though in front of their own fans. That's Tranmere's chance of an away win.

Had to happen  ;D

The latest twist in the Tranmere Rovers soap opera script ...

Tranmere Rovers FC are delighted to announce that Micky Mellon will re-join the Club as first team manager with effect from 1st June.

Ian Dawes will be Micky’s assistant manager and Andy Parkinson will act as first team coach.

Chairman Mark Palios said: “It is great to have Micky back at Prenton Park.  We met up over the weekend to discuss matters and both felt it was a great fit for him to return, so we have moved swiftly to ensure that there is plenty of time to build a squad for the new season.

In Micky, we have a proven manager who already has a bond with the SWA, having guided us to back-to-back promotions from the National League to League One.  I am very confident that with his knowledge and experience, and with Ian Dawes and Andy Parkinson alongside him, we will be making a strong push for promotion next season.”

New first team manager, Micky Mellon, said: “It is great to be back.  When I went to Scotland following our demotion from League One, it left a sense of unfinished business and I am pleased to have the opportunity to right that wrong. Tranmere is a forward-thinking Club with an exciting future, and I wanted to be part of that, so I can’t wait to get started and be reunited with the SWA once again.”

There's a name from the past. Andy Parkinson was part of the 1996 Owen/Carragher FA Youth Cup winning side. Never played for the 1st team though

Well, you learn something every day, cheers for that feller  ;)

On that note, there was a tweet from Jon Newby about the 25 year reunion of that 1996 side yesterday ... no Owen though unless he was getting the drinks in or taking the pic  ;D

Think that's Andy far right.

That's a great pic. Cheers for that. Yeah, that looks like Andy on the far right. Think that's Jon Newby fourth from right in the khaki top. He did make a handful of appearances for the first team. Has been working for our academy for a good few years since he retired. Coached a few of the year groups below U12. Currently an academy scout for the Manchester area according to the official website.

Can't believe how old some of them look! And I'm older than them!!

What's the point of playing Rangers in a friendly without an away crowd?

If they'd held it back a week or so could have potentially been a full house.

Couldn't say why feller, but Rangers have released this list of their pre-European Cup Qualifier Friendlies. Someone had to miss out I guess. Obviously Gerrard had a lot to do with it cos he's got his mate Critch's  team lined up 11 days later:

Monday July 5 – Partick Thistle (A) 7pm

Saturday July 10 – Tranmere Rovers (A) 12pm

Saturday July 17 – Arsenal (H) 2pm

Wednesday July 21 – Blackpool (A) 7pm

Kieron Morris with Tranmere's first, a belter from a corner, great pressure to get it in the first place. Looking good Rovers, Rangers all over the shop in defence.

Finished 1-0 to Rovers. Proper backs-to-the-wall second half as Rangers dominated possession - the Siege of Prenton Park - but the defence stood firm. Very encouraging first game of the season. Looks like Mellon has signed some good players.

Callum McManaman could be a hell of a signing at league 2 level, only 30 so plenty of gas left in the tank you'd imagine.

Callum McManaman could be a hell of a signing at league 2 level, only 30 so plenty of gas left in the tank you'd imagine.

Premier League looked a step too far for him, but you could tell he was a decent footballer for Wigan and West Brom. Haven't seen him since he dropped down to the Championship, but to have that quality drop down to league 2 is decent if his legs aren't gone.

They really need a striker to hit the ground running. They have been blessed with some quality strikers over recent years, Norwood, Cook, Mullin, Vaughan. When Vaughan got injured last year, the goals dried up, and now he's retired. Doesn't look like they have bought in a quality striker so far.  Manny Monthé leaving is a big miss, always enjoyed watching him when I got down to Prenton.

The have got our lad on loan, Paul Glatzel, hard to gauge how he will adapt to League two football. Seen plenty of young lads go on loan to Tranmere, only to be a bit shit.

Six League wins in a row for Rovers, Micky Mellon Manager of the Month, up to second in the table, only 14 conceded in the League all season ...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/league-two/table

... and hoping not to put the mockers on it, but it's fair to say things are going pretty well and automatic promotion is really in their own hands now.

Away at Salford tonight going for seven in a row, sold-out allocation, Glatzel on the bench.

Agreed, not a lot of faith shown by some sections of the support to a man who's done it before and knows the Club inside out.

There's a lot of frustration with the mathematical relegation and then wasting a season with Keith Hill - who incidentally got it down the banks on Saturday coming back to Prenton Park as Scunthorpe boss  ;D
